FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) - A manager of a Subway in California is recovering from her injuries after being attacked by a customer.

Monique Larios said she was hit in the face multiple times by a man she was just making a sandwich for last Thursday.

“I did not expect it. He came around the corner and I said, ‘What are you going to do, hit me over ham?’ And he hit me,” Larios said. “He punched me and all I could remember is just black.”

According to Larios, the customer, later identified as George Sandoval, escalated the situation because he wanted more ham on his sandwich.

The attack was caught on camera as employees and another customer had to jump into action to help Larios.

Larios said the dispute was over double meat, but Sandoval had only paid to have six extra slices of ham instead of the 12 that he was upset about.

“I’m scared. I still can’t feel half of my face,” Larios said. “There could be some kind of permanent damage. I’ve never been so numb to where my face feels like it’s a mask.”

Madera police arrested Sandoval in connection with the incident later that evening. He is facing a battery charge.

Larios said she never stood a chance against Sandoval.

“I’m 4-foot-11 and this guy was 6-foot-5 and almost 400 pounds,” she said.

Now, Larios says she’s scared to go back to work.

“I did not deserve this at all. I was just doing my job,” she said. “There was nothing wrong, the sandwich was made to our Subway standards. I don’t know why he didn’t even give me a chance to try to figure out what he wanted.”

Larios remains on leave and plans to press charges against Sandoval and potentially sue him for what he did.
