Lesson Overview: Students learn some key facets of a fire adapted community. They explore fire wise landscaping, fire resistant homes, and evacuation plans. Students also talk about personal fire preparedness and what types of things they can do in advance to be ready in the case of a wildfire.

Lesson Goal: Give students a more in-depth review of wildfire preparedness. Familiarize students with Firewise guidelines, such as go bags, communication and evacuation planning, fire resistant structures, and defensible space.

Objectives:

  • Students can explain communication and evacuation plans, go bags.
  • Students can explain what a defensible space looks like and what it does.
  • Students can cescribe the aspects of a building that make it resistant to a wildfire.
