1. Best Nipple Covers Overall: B-Six Nippies Nipple Covers

B-Six Nippies Adhesive Nipple Covers

Type: Nipple covers | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 5 | Reusable: Yes (up to 30 times)

Two of our editors say these Bristols 6s are the best nipple covers they've ever tried because they come in a range of skin tones and truly stay put. “They've yet to slip off in the heat when I'm on a red carpet,” says Glamour senior West Coast editor Jessica Radloff. Glamour commerce writer Andrea Navarro calls the Nippies the most “seamless” that she owns. “I don't have to worry about seeing the circular shape underneath my clothes, even when I'm wearing formfitting bodysuits or tees,” she says. “The glue also isn't irritating and they don't stick to my skin so hard that it hurts to remove them. And as for cleaning, I find that these get the least amount of lint on them to begin with (versus other nipple covers I've used), so a light rinse of water does just the trick.”

Why we like them: They're super reusable—Navarro says she's worn them well over their guaranteed 30 times.

Not a deal breaker, but: The covers curl inward when they're not on, so you'll have to force their stuck-together sides apart each time you use them.

2. Best Reusable Nipple Covers: Hollywood Fashion Secrets Silicone Cover-Ups

Courtesy of brand

Hollywood Fashion Secrets Silicone Cover-Ups

Type: Nipple covers | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 4 | Reusable: Yes (up to 25 times)

Self-adhesive nipple covers (or silicone pasties) are excellent to wear year-round because they're lightweight and practically invisible. Hollywood Fashion Secrets makes this popular cover-up, which has slightly tapered edges that lend a more seamless look under tight or thin tops. “These are easy to use, stay in place, and provide excellent coverage,” says one Amazon shopper. “I use them with my unpadded bras, and my ‘minimizer’ bras because they are so thinly made.”

Why we like them: They come in two sizes; size 2 is intended for DD+ cup, with 3.5 inches of coverage.

Worth considering: Some shoppers say they're not as sticky and long-lasting as other brands they're tried.

3. Best Cheap Nipple Covers: Muqu Nipple Pasties (2-Pack)

Courtesy of brand

Muqu Silicone Nipple Pasties

Type: Nipple covers and petals | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 5 | Reusable: Yes

There are plenty of reasons to add Muqu pasties to your cart: They're affordable, come in a lot of skin tones, and arrive zipped up in a small travel case that'll protect them from accumulating lint and dust. “These are sticky even on sweaty days and, for the price, they are absolutely worth it if you just want to try reusable nipple covers in general/have a backup bra option,” says an Amazon shopper.

Why we like them: The price—$6 for a set of round nipple covers and breast petals is a steal.

Not a deal breaker, but: They're not as seamless as some other nipple covers under fitted tops.

4. Best Disposable: Brassybra Adhesive Nipple Covers & Breast Tape (3-Pack)

Type: Nipple covers and breast tape | Material: 97% cotton, 3% polyurethane | Colors: 5 | Reusable: No

Personal stylists Ashley Full and Erika Cartledge rave about Brassybra's adhesive nipple pasties, which you can use in tandem with the set's sticky breast-shaped tape that gently lifts. “I love them because they are size-inclusive, offer a ton of different solutions, and [are made of] medical-grade, hypoallergenic adhesive that lasts for a long time,” says Cartledge. “Add in the fact that it fits your skin like a glove and is sweat- and waterproof and it's a complete winner!” Glamour commerce editor Malia Griggs wore the breast tape for a summer wedding. “I was sweating profusely, but that tape stayed put through the hours,” she says.

Why we like them: They're made almost entirely of cotton—a great alternative for anyone who's sensitive to silicone.

Worth considering: They're not reusable, sadly, and get a little itchy over time, says Griggs.

5. Best for T-Shirts: Nood No-Show Nipple Covers

Courtesy of brand

Nood No Show Nipple Covers

Type: Nipple covers | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 4 | Reusable: Yes (up to 50–100 times)

Of all the reusable nipple covers on this list, the Nood No-Shows last the longest (by a wide margin): up to 100 times when properly washed with warm water, dried, and stored. They're waterproof, sweat-proof, and matte, and mold to your skin so that they look practically invisible and seamless when worn—even under sheer white shirts and silk. “They're very easy to put on and very flattering. No lines through my shirt when I wear white, and I love how the edges sick to my breast and don't feel like they are going to fall off,” a Nordstrom shopper says.

Why we like them: They're thin and curved enough that their outlines don't show through clothes.

Not a deal breaker, but: They're a little pricey, so if you're looking for only a onetime-use situation, this isn't it.

6. Best Pasties: Commando Nipple Concealer Adhesives (5-Pack)

Courtesy of brands

Commando Nipple Concealer Adhesives

Type: Pasties | Material: Latex-free, medical-grade adhesive | Colors: 1 | Reusable: No

Similar to reusable nipple covers, adhesive pasties offer subtle coverage when wearing sheer clothing. Silicone covers are often a bit thicker and might show through thin garments, but that's not the case with thin, throwaway pasties like these. Amazon shoppers call these X-shaped Commando stickers amazingly durable and sticky. “I’ve tried so many different brands and materials, and these are so thin and practically invisible when I wear a white tank,” says an Amazon shopper. “I'm sweaty gal, especially in the summer, and I’m so impressed they stay on!”

Why we like them: They're light and breathable, and don't get all wrinkled and creased.

Worth considering: They're not the best choice for anyone with bigger areolae, since the X-shape doesn't give you quite as much coverage. Also, shoppers say they're very sticky and may be painful to remove—but hey, there's no danger of them falling off.

7. Best for Lift: B-Six Nippies Lifting Nipple Covers

Nordstrom

B-Six Lifting Nipple Covers

Type: Nipple covers | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 5 | Reusable: Yes (up to 30 times)

The one thing that most nipple covers don't do, sadly, is offer the boost and support of a bra—which we may still want or need, especially if our boobs are on the bigger side (or if the ’fit you've chosen lends itself to some perkiness). Stick a full-coverage, washable B-Six adhesive on each breast, prop it up with your hand, then press its top pull tab into the skin to hold it in place. Et voilà—liftoff! “I haven’t worn a bra once since I discovered these…. They give the right amount of coverage and support and are so comfortable,” says one Amazon shopper.

Why we like them: They come in two sizes for A–C and D+ cups.

Worth considering: Don't expect a push-up effect—just a bit of lift. They're also a bit pricey, but they do last a long time.

8. Best Boob Tape: B-Six Nippies Tape

Courtesy of brand

B-Six Nippies Tape

Type: Breast tape | Material: 80% nylon, 20% elastane | Colors: 5 | Reusable: No

It's not your traditional nipple cover, but B-Six's boob tape is a highly useful option for hiding the nips, especially if you have a fuller bust. “It’s customizable, and can lift, contour, and create amazing cleavage,” April Buchanan, lingerie expert and founder and CEO of The Perky Lady, says. Nipple covers are limited in size and shape, but you can cut the tape and drape it in a variety of ways (up and over your shoulders to take weight off your back; halter-style; or in a wide strip across your chest to make a backless bra). “I actually wear this tape over my B-Six pasties and am always surprised by how well it works,” says Glamour's Navarro. “It has a medical-grade adhesive, so the support is no joke!”

Why we like it: You can layer the two-inch breast tape in strips to create more support and coverage. Plus, it's water-resistant against your sweat.

Worth considering: This may not be the best choice for more revealing outfits, since the tape is quite thick and may be visible above your boobs.

9. Best Design: Gatherall Nipple Covers

Amazon

Gatherall Nipple Covers

Type: Nipple covers | Material: 100% silicone | Colors: 4 | Reusable: Yes (over 50 times)

These sand-dollar-size nipple covers are tapered with a thick center that hugs your nips, then gradually thins until it's flush against the skin (and smooth under your shirts). Made of medical-grade silicone, the reusable set is waterproof, completely opaque so none of your business shows, and seamless.

Why we like it: Each nipple cover is 3.15 inches in diameter, which is sizable enough to camouflage wider areolae.

Worth considering: On the other hand, if you have smaller areolae, you may opt for a more petite silicone cover (like size one of Hollywood Fashion Secrets Cover-Ups, which is 2.75 inches in diameter).

10. Best Nipple Covers for Big Boobs: VBT Boob Tape

Courtesy of brand

VBT Boob Tape

Type: Breast tape and nipple covers | Material: 95% cotton, 5% spandex | Colors: 4 | Reusable: Tape is not, but nipple covers are.

Made of stretchy, breathable cotton, this boob-tape bestseller has grid lines that make it easy to measure and cut into workable pieces. “I grabbed this boob tape as an emergency when I ran out of my old one, and I chose it because it had the most reviews on Amazon,” says Navarro. “I like the grid paper for easy measuring cutting, and the fabric is super stretchy compared with a lot of tapes. I use boob tape mostly for plunging necklines, and this really supports my D-cup-sized breasts for hours on end.” Still need more coverage? VBT's kit includes a pair of reusable pasties too.

Why we like it: The tape is foolproof to use, and comes in both two- and three-inch widths.

Not a deal breaker, but: Shoppers say it's a little tricky to take off.

11. Best Adhesive Bra: NuBra Airy Seamless Breathable Adhesive Bra

Courtesy of brand

NuBra Seamless Breathable Adhesive Bra

Type: Adhesive strapless bra | Material: 40% silicone adhesive, 30% polyester, 30% polyurethane foam | Colors: 7 | Reusable: Yes

“Think of the NuBra as your secret weapon for killer cleavage—it cinches those beauties together for a showstopping effect in plunging necklines,” Buchanan says. Celebrity stylist Anita Patrickson previously told Glamour that she prefers the NuBra over other strapless bras because it's so much better at staying hidden. The proper way to put the front-closure bra on? “Bend over, stick one cup toward the outside of your breast, put the other one on your other breast, and clip them together,” she says. “It'll help give you some cleavage and is the best way I've found to put it on.”

Why we like it: It comes in sizes A to E, and its front clasp makes it easy to take on and off.

Worth considering: It's not as seamless as a nipple cover. You might wind up with some bulging through tighter shirts.

Your nipple cover questions, answered

What are the different types of nipple covers?

  1. Silicone nipple covers (or silicone pasties) are great to wear year-round because they're lightweight and practically invisible. Breathable and sweat-proof, these options are typically circular in shape, stretching beyond the nipple to cover the entire areola. The majority of adhesive silicone covers are made from medical-grade silicone, so if you have sensitive skin or plan on adding them to your daily rotation, they should be kinder on your skin.
  • What they’re good for: Thin or semisheer fabrics, tight shirts, plunging necklines, swimwear, and wedding (guest) dresses.
  • Why we like them: Most brands offer nipple covers in a range of skin tones and sizes depending on your breast and/or areola, and you can even get them in a waterproof style to wear underneath bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, or sports bras to prevent chafing. Also, they're reusable and easy to clean.
  • Worth considering: The adhesive isn't long-lasting and nipple covers can be visible underneath clothing. Plus, they're not always sweat-proof.

2. Pasties function much like stickers and are usually flatter than reusable silicone nipple covers.

  • What they’re good for: Sheer fabrics, satin, V-necks, and loose-fitting tops and T-shirts.
  • Why we like them: Pasties offer subtle, seamless coverage under sheer clothing, such as white tank tops. They're a smart choice in a pinch (or if you don't plan on reaching for nipple covers routinely).
  • Worth considering: They're usually disposable and can tug at skin when removal, and even though they look ultra thin, they may pucker if not applied flush to your boobs.

3. Boob tape (a.k.a. nipple tape or breast tape) is a stretchy adhesive designed to lift and hold your breasts in place without the use of a traditional bra, says Cartledge. “It can also be used to cover your nipples in the event that you’re wearing something see-through, sheer, or very fitted.”

  • What it’s good for: Offers lift and support for larger busts; works great with very low-cut tops.
  • Why we like it: It's extremely versatile, as you can cut and customize it into a variety of styles. It's also supportive for larger busts, which nipple covers really aren't, and can be used to cover your nips under fitted clothes.
  • Worth considering: The tape isn't reusable, isn't the most beginner-friendly, and can be challenging to remove.

4. Adhesive strapless bras (a.k.a. stick-on bras) adhere to your breast, lifting, supporting, and providing more coverage than pasties or tape ever could. Most sticky bras are backless too.

  • What it’s good for: Backless dresses, one-shoulder tops.
  • Why we like them: Stick-on bras are reusable, easy to clean, and—important—give you more shape and definition without a war against gravity.
  • Worth considering: Warmer weather and excessive sweating can lead to the adhesive being less effective over time.

How to shop for nipple covers

Factors to consider when figuring out what nipple cover is best for you:

Reusability: Plan on wearing these repeatedly? Reusable nipple covers are a no-brainer. “They're more cost-effective and a great addition to a lingerie wardrobe,” says Jen Summers, bra-fit expert and co-owner of lingerie shop Story Essentials. “They are easy to clean, easy to wear, and work with a variety of outfit options (and even under bras and bralettes) when you want a nice smooth no-show look.” Of course, if you just need some one-and-done coverage, disposable pasties like the Commando Low Beams get the job done.

Size and color: Choose a nipple cover color that blends in with the skin surrounding your areola and nipple so the contrast doesn't show through your clothes. Also consider the diameter of the cover. “You don’t want one that is too large, which could change the shape of the breast, or one that is too small that will not provide the proper effect,” Summers says.

Your outfit and overall look: Some nipple cover styles are more seamless in their fit across the areola—and won't show through your thinner outfits. Some give your boobs more lift and perkiness, which might be your preferred aesthetic. We've broken down each type of cover and what situations they're best for in the section above.

Do nipple covers work for big boobs?

TBH, not really. Nipple covers will give you modesty, but support? Not so much. Turn to breast tape and stick-on bras instead. “If needed, you can lift your boobs with a flesh-colored breast tape and then pop on a nipple cover for modesty,” says Jené Luciani Sena, bra expert and author of The Bra Book and Get It!, who points to Hollywood Fashion Secrets Silicone Coverups Set, which includes both. Summers also recommends breast tape for bigger boobs, since you can layer it in strips over your shoulders to pull up your bust.

How do you size yourself for nipple covers?

Grab a ruler, friend, and measure the diameter of your nipple (including the areola). Most nipple covers fall in the two-to-four-inch ballpark in diameter. You'll likely want to choose a cover that's a little larger than your nipple so it can press the nipple down and create a seamless look.

How many times can you wear nipple covers?

It depends on the type of cover. Many silicone nipple covers and adhesive bras are designed to be reused until their stickiness wears off—which can be anywhere from 10 to 50 times. Breast tape and adhesive pasties, however, are usually for only onetime use and disposable.

How do you put on nipple covers?

Remove the backing and press it across the nipple. Important: Don't wear any lotion or oils on your skin, which break down the adhesion of the cover.

How do you take off nipple covers?

Do not just rip a nipple cover off your skin. Ow! To remove a reusable silicone nipple cover, you can usually gently peel the cover off your skin. If it's a little stubborn, press a warm, damp cloth over the skin to soften the adhesion—or try an oil like coconut oil or baby oil to break down the stickiness. For adhesive nipple pasties and boob tape, it can help to soak them in a lightweight oil before peeling off. It never hurts to read your nipple covers' included directions for removal.

How do you wash nipple covers?

Reusable silicone nipple covers are pretty easy breezy to clean. Most just need a rinse with water (and sometimes mild soap), air-drying time, and then proper storage to reactivate the adhesion on the back.
