Blunt haircuts just look incredible. There's something about slicing the bottom of your hair dead-straight that speaks to our inner perfectionists. The neat, crisp finish is the antithesis of the outgrown hair we had to live with during lockdown, and that fresh feeling has kept up its momentum as we keep spotting the slick chop everywhere. 

Besides that? Blunt haircuts are the hair equivalent of shape-wear. Where the latter can create a smoother, more sculpted silhouette, the former can create the illusion of extra fullness and length, for healthier, fresher-looking strands. Plus, it's a quick and easy way to slice away split ends.

Technically speaking, “blunt haircuts” refer to your hair being the same length all the way round. It means that the bottom should be straight, rather than softly frayed, and layers should be kept light and fairly invisible. 

“The use of one length through the hair works really well and gives it a contemporary feel,” says Krysia. "The style is also really flattering as it sits beautifully when worn straight or waved and suits all face shapes and hair types."

Gorka Arraras, Head of Creative at Charles Worthington Salons, agrees, explaining that the style has become a staple in recent years due to its versatility. "This hairstyle predominantly suits, oval, square and heart face shapes, but could be adapted to any face shape with right angles and shaping," he says. "In terms of wearability, it is extremely versatile as it can be worn, dead straight or in endless variations of waves, from textured and undone, to polished and shiny S waves."

Jessica Neil from KH Hair says it's ideal for heading into spring/summer. "With summer on its way, everyone is wanting lighter, more wearable hair," she explains. And, because the cut works better on midi to bob-length hair, it's far easier to maintain and very versatile, as it's easy to grow out and can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion.
