How old is Door? She's described as appearing young, but the attraction between Door and Richard makes me hope she's older. Am I missing a detail that indicates she is older?

What series is this book similar to? Also, is it appropriate for an eleven-year-old? Said eleven-year-old has an adult-level Lexile #, so I'm not worried about the difficulty of the book, just is there mature content?
