The technical stuff is challenging, but not ultimately necessary to understanding the actual plot. (less)

Snow Crash is a much quicker read, but Anathem was equally enthralling in a different way.
I just started Quicksilver this week, after finishing Ctyptonomicon, and find it way more interesting having first read Crypto than it would have been otherwise. The Baroque cycle was inspired by research NS did for Crypto, and builds on ideas therein.
Though large, Crypto moves at a fantastic pace, and is consistently fascinating and entertaining. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it.
TL;DR-Cryptonomicon is a great next book for you, as would be Anathem or Snow Crash.(less)
