Annie Prudhomme has returned home to Marietta, Montana after being gone for the last fifteen years. She finds herself a waitressing job at the local diner called The Main Street Diner. The last person she expects to see on her first shift is Carson Scott. He and he's brothers drop in for a bite to eat. Carson is just as surprised to Annie. A lot of time has passed between the two of them but still Carson instantly feels something for Annie just like he did all those years ago.

Since then Carson has now grown up and has responsibilities of he's own. He is now a single father to his six year old son Evan. Carson's wife died four years ago in a car accident. Seeing Annie again stirs up old feelings and memories and many questions. Fifteen years ago Annie walked out on him with no explanation and now he wants to know why.

Annie is recently divorced from her husband Davis. They were married for ten years, but then things went bad and so Annie returned to her hometown. Although she doesn't have much else left in her life she does have her ranch in Marietta. Her ranch is situated right near the Scott ranch. When Carson finally gets to talk to Annie she doesn't give to much away. Carson wants to know what she has been doing all these years. He's also looking for answers as to what went wrong between the two of them all those years ago.
With Christmas just around the corner Annie is busy with renovating her ranch which Carson gives her a hand and the two end up spending a bit of time together.

But Is Annie ready to confide in Carson or will she leave again like she did fifteen years ago? This is a beautifully written Christmas story which I really enjoyed.

A country smalltown Christmas, a second chance romance, and a lot of festivities with family and friends set a sugary yet bittersweet holiday tone that struck me just right. I've read other books in the Copper Mountain world, but was glad to go back and get the first one.

A Cowboy For Christmas introduces Marietta, Montana, the Copper Mountain Rodeo, and the Scotts family of brothers all in one book. The reader has sport for choice by getting to explore several author with the first two or continue on with the Scotts family from the current, fabulous author, Katherine Garbera. Decisions, decisions, I do encourage readers to choosing all the above, eventually.

As to this current story, it was a heartwarmer. It struck the right chord with its Christmas and second chances theme, but balanced all the sugar with some real life struggles- a couple who broke up when the girl walked away after high school, a man loving and losing his wife, a woman who cut all ties from home in her misplaced grief and loss only to end up dead broke after picking a con artist for a husband. The stage was set for Christmas magic to take over and it did, but not without a few stops and starts.

Carson and his three brothers gather every Wednesday night at the diner for dinner while his son visits with his maternal grandparents. That is when Carson catches sight of the new waitress, Annie Prudhomme, who left him and ran off to big city lights and her dreams. Only her eyes are dull and she doesn't look like life was good. He wants to be indifferent, but the old zing is still there, but he's older and wiser now and won't let her break his heart when she- yep when and not if- runs again.

Annie hates that she had to come crawling back to her hometown with barely a penny to her name after bragging about big success in the city and promising they'd seen the last her. And, that was before she spotted her biggest regret walk in the door of the diner and she has to serve him. Carson has every right to hate her, but he treats her well enough even when he wants an explanation for what happened after all these years. She's a mess and has been even when she really did strike it rich with her home decor designs because what she was running from is inside her. Why does Carson feel like she has come home?

A Cowboy For Christmas was typical novella pacing in that it got things introduced and didn't mess about getting to the heart of matters or delaying the attraction and revisiting of the relationship. Normally, I'd want to tease out the story and the development, but I have to admit that I was only okay with Annie's issues because this did all get resolved in short order. She was one unholy mess and seemed to have been since she was a kid. To be fair, she has a lot of emotional baggage that never got unpacked and one might argue that she really needed to see a grief counselor, but she brings all this back to Marietta with her and jumps into something with Carson knowing full well she's edging to run and can't figure out what she wants. She knows he cares about her and always did and he has a son that needs him, but still he has to be the one to drag honest words and emotions out of her and each time he follows her lead she jerks him back and forth with the emotions when he's only been good and steady with her while she's busy pulling back to protect herself each time she lets him get close.

I don't want to give the impression I hated her or the story, but I sure didn't respect her or care one way or the other about her. I stuck around for Carson, his family, and the Christmas smalltown cheer. And, I enjoyed the author's writing and the hints at some solid stories for the rest of those Scott brothers and others around the town of Marietta. While, I wasn't into Annie, I still enjoyed the story and can recommend it as a warmhearted holiday contemporary romance novella.

My first read by this author and I can’t say I’m impressed. Before having read this I bought the other books in this series (Scott Brothers of Montana). I know, I should have waited but it wouldn't have made any difference as I can’t leave a series unfinished, even if it’s really bad. *sigh* Here’s hoping the next ones are better because this one was not good, although it had a nice Christmassy feel it was tedious and repetitive and did I say boring, it was just the same thing over and over, nothing new and the heroine, Annie, was extremely annoying and the hero, Carson, was a bit too judge-y blaming her for things that occurred when they were young.

My first romance book I’ve genuinely disliked and I wish it wasn’t so.

My thoughts: This story was okay. There was a lot of repetition but it moved quickly enough that you could ignore it. There wasn't a lot of depth and there were so many storylines that didn't get fully explored but I'm looking forward to the next book, I feel like I'll get the rest of this story in the background or side story of the next book.

Recommend to others: Sure, it's a quick easy read.

When Carson Scott walked into the café for his usual Wednesday night fare with his brothers, he didn’t expect the new waitress to be Annie Prudhomme. Annie was a past love, but a lot of water had gone under that bridge – he had married, had a son he adored, and lost his wife to a dreadful car accident all in those intervening years.

Annie had ventured back to her home town as she had nowhere else to go – after a bitter divorce from her husband had cost her everything, she decided she would go back to her home, renovate, sell and move on. But she didn’t expect her previous feelings to come to the fore when she saw Carson again either.

With Christmas looming, Annie needing money to buy materials for her renovations, and a tentative reaching out between her sister and herself, Annie emotions were in turmoil. What would she do? Would she stay, or would she go? What would happen to Carson – would she break his heart once again?

This was a light enjoyable Christmas novella – not a sickly sweet romance, but one with a story behind it. I found it entertaining, and don't mind recommending it:)

The story is cliched and rushed and the characters are flat. I swear I've read this exact same story, only better, several times before. It was also too explicitly sexual for my tastes, especially in a Christmas romance.

This a pretty short Christmas romance of second chances. The introduction felt a little rushed and this is part of a series so the rest of the books might get into more detail.

Length: 1594 kindle locations
Setting: Contemporary. Marietta, Montana.
Sex: Explicit. Infrequent.
Hero: Christmas Tree Farmer
Heroine: Waitress

Another book with a foot in two series - Copper Mountain Christmas and The Scott Brothers of Montana.

The heroine was so, so sad. And the Hero was so perfect.

I enjoyed Annie's imperfections and self doubt. I even liked Carson's self awareness. I just wasn't convinced on the rapid HEA.

In A Cowboy For Christmas by Katherine Garbera, Annie never expected to come back to Marietta, the small town she left in the dust years ago. When the life Annie has worked to build after leaving Marietta crumbles and leaves her humiliated, broke and alone, she heads back to Marietta to pick up the pieces again. Staying in the run down old family home and working in the cafe, it is inevitable she will run into Carson. Because all those years ago it was not only Marietta Annie left in the dust, it was also Carson, her high school sweetheart.

Carson could never understand why Annie just left without looking back. Especially since they had such a great connection. It took him a while, but he moved on. At least he thought he had until he sees Annie again. Seeing Annie again brings the memories flooding back, along with the pain of her leaving. It also brings back the feelings he thought he no longer had for her. This time, Carson is determined to get answers from Annie before she disappears again, because that is Annie's plan...to heal, rebuild the home, and move on again.

Carson has a lot going on in his life, he has changed a lot in the years since he was with Annie. He's been married, had a son, and widowed. He also has a ranch to run, a tree farm, and lots of brothers. He is busy, but when he sees Annie again and spends some time with her, he realizes what he's missing in his life. "Life was short - no one understood that better than he did. And Annie had always been the one woman who'd been able to make him feel wild." But can he risk his heart to Annie again, knowing she probably won't stay this time either? Annie feels more for Carson than she thought she still would, but she doesn't know what she's doing or where she's going right now. She realizes it's not fair to either of them to start something she can't finish...but it might be too late for that.

Carson is happy in Marietta, but can Annie ever be happy there? It's Christmas, a time of magic, a winter wonderland. Can Carson and Annie find something to celebrate?

A Cowboy For Christmas is a novella packed with a very complicated love story! Annie and Carson have quite a history together, but it was a long time ago. They are getting to know each other again, at the same time remembering how well they know the other. The emotions that Katherine writes about, the wide variety of them, are great examples of very real emotions that anyone in a similar situation might have. I did feel that more of a history of Annie's past in particular would have been a great complement to Annie and Carson's love story, and would have filled in what I felt were a lot of grey areas. I'm not completely sure why Annie ran off to begin with, but for Carson's sake I'm glad she's back in Marietta. Annie is a bit of a puzzle for me! Carson was a what you see is what you get kind of guy! He was open, he knew what he wanted, and he was going to do what he could to get it, but at the same time he was very respectful of Annie. Carson is a lot more careful with Annie this time because of his son...he thinks of his son and his son's needs first. Carson strikes me as being much happier in his life than Annie has been in hers!

I loved being back in Marietta for A Cowboy For Christmas! Katherine could make me feel the cold air and the snow on my face...I love winter! All of Carson's brothers made great secondary characters, because they play such an important role in Carson's life.

Any reader looking for some holiday romance will enjoy this novella!

A Cowboy for Christmas was an alright Christmas read. The basic story is Annie and Carson used to be an item, but then she left him brokenhearted when she moved away. Now she is back, and there is still that attraction between them, but will she stay this time

Carson seems like a great guy. He was married, but his wife died in a car accident a number of years ago. He was heartbroken when Annie left town, but he managed to move on. He still has his son to raise and is just a really good guy. When he sees Annie in town again he wants to get to know her, wants to see if they still had what they once did. At the same time he is worried that she will run again and leave him broken hearted once more. Though it is hard to stay away...

Annie never wanted to live in Marietta. She always wanted to go out and experience the world. She tired, was married, but her husband was a disaster and now she is crawling back with nothing. She has nowhere else to go and so she is planning on staying for a bit to figure out her next move. Even though she is loving being back, realizing that she missed that small town feel, missed people helping each other and being like family, she still is determined not to stay. Even though she keeps thinking this feels like home, being with Carson is like being home, being with him is amazing, she thinks she needs to go. Why? Well because she said she would never live in Marietta when she was a teenager! So she must stick with that...really she is why this was just an okay read for me. She annoyed me greatly. For most of the story it was just like I love it here, but I can't stay. I love Carson and he loves me, that means we can't be together. This is perfect and I love this, but this is not what I think ideal should be so I will just throw it away. Sure what she thought she wanted was not what she wanted, but let's hold so tight to what you should want and not let what you do want come in. She just annoyed me. So an alright read, but not my favorite Christmas story.

It’s been 15 years since Annie Prudhomme had been back in Marietta. She eagerly left when she was 18, convinced that she would make it big. Now, after a humiliating divorce that stemmed from a Ponzi scheme her former husband was involved in, Annie is broke and back in Marietta. With nothing more than her car, dog and family’s ranch, which is falling apart and needing much work, Annie doesn’t have much to her name.

While waiting tables at Main Street Diner, Annie sees Carson Scott and the memories come rushing back. Carson had been Annie’s boyfriend in high school. When she left Marietta 15 years ago, she left without even explaining or saying goodbye to Carson. Seeing him again, brought back the emotions of how she’s always felt for him and the regret that she has been carrying around for all these years. Not knowing if Annie was going to be in Marietta for a while, or take off as quickly as she did before, Carson would like to get some answers … starting with why she left so abruptly. But getting answers wouldn’t be as easy as he’d like. Embarrassed of the way her life had turned out, Annie was quick to brush off any conversation of her past. But Carson refused to play into this game. If there was any chance of them even being friends, he expected her to be honest with him. But will Annie’s past prevent her from having a future with Carson? Or will she be able to let go of the pain she has been carrying and start a new life in her hometown of Marietta?

A Cowboy For Christmas is an emotion filled book that will have you appreciating the things you have and letting go of painful events of your past. The connection that Annie and Carson have is palpable and will have you believing in the miracle of Christmas. I love holiday themed books with an amazing story, hunky cowboys and a great love story! This is the perfect book to put you in the spirit of the holidays.

In Katherine Garbera's A Cowboy for Christmas, Annie Prudhomme is back in Marietta, Montana. Fifteen years ago, she couldn't get out of town fast enough, no matter who she hurt or left behind. Now, with nowhere else to go, she is back. Carson Scott is the cowboy she left behind. He moved on, married and had a son, though, tragically, he lost his wife to an accident while his son, Evan, was still and infant. Carson realizes he never got over Annie, but can he go down that path again, when it isn't just him that will get hurt when she leaves, again? Annie made and lost her fortune, trusting the wrong man. She has nothing left but her family home, and no relationship with her sister, who is her remaining family. She comes home because she has no where else to go, but is not planning on staying. She realizes hasn't gotten over Carson and has to decide what she really wants from life.
Garbera's novella is a heartwarming Christmas story of forgiveness and finding out just what home means. Annie and Carson have a relationship that has a strong foundation in the past. We really get to know Carson and what he has gone through. The two problems I have with the novella are the development of Annie's back story, and even the back story of their romance. We know that Annie wanted to get out of town, but we only get the bare minimum when it comes to why and we know Annie and Carson were together in high school and that she left him behind, but we never find out how long or how close they were.
Overall, this was a fun Christmas story with two characters I enjoyed visiting with. I love the references to the characters we have already met,and relish any chance I can get to return to Marietta.

Carson Scott had his heart broken at 18 when Annie Prudhomme left Marietta, Montana and never looked back. Fifteen years later he's astounded to see her working as a waitress at the local diner. Seeing her brings back all the feelings he had and he wonders if they ever went away. Is Annie back for good and can he somehow manage to keep his heart this time?

I'm a big fan of the trope second time love. On reading the blurb, I didn't think I was going to a big Annie fan but once I started reading and learned more about the choices she made I understood and liked her more than I initially thought I would. I felt for Annie for losing so much when she left Marietta, leaving more then Carson behind and then coming home broken and looking for a place to pull herself together again.

Carson on the other hand was steadfast which is a character trait I adore in a man, well anyone. I liked how involved he was in the local community and taking care of his son Evan. As much as Carson wanted Annie in his life for good he had to make sure it was just that for Evan's sake as much as his. Evan by the way is adorable. I mean he asked Santa for a Mommy. It's as heart wrenching as it is cute.

Katherine Garbera has done a wonderful job with this story about two old lovers who are trying to find a new balance between each other and what they need as individuals. The story will definitely leave you in the holiday mood.

A Cowboy for Christmas by Katherine Garbera was a delight to read. I love Christmas stories! This was my first Garbera book and it certainly won’t be the last.
Annie and Carson have a history, and during the fifteen years they have been apart they have both lost so much. Can they move on from the past and give each other another chance? Can Annie forgive herself for the bridges she burned when she hightailed it out of Marietta; and can she mend the relationships and the people she hurt? Can Carson forgive Annie and learn to take a chance on love again after losing his wife and raising his son, who is asking Santa for a mommy for Christmas? I thought Gabrera did an excellent job of showing the emotion they were going through. I felt like I was feeling what they were feeling and wanted to cheer them on and make sure they both got the HEA that they deserved.
I am also hoping that there will be more stories since Carson has brothers, so maybe there will be more cowboys for Christmas for a few more gals…… I think I might have to ask Santa for one myself.
I think I have fallen in love with this little fictional town of Marietta Montana and look forward to many more books from Montana Born Books. All the books out are stand alone, but they are so much more fun to read them together and get to know the town and its people.

I'm a sucker for a good Christmas romance and I wanted to like this story more than I actually did. I liked the hero, the titular cowboy, Carson Scott. I would have liked to have more about Carson and his little boy, Evan, in the story. The focus of the story, though, was Annie, who has returned home to Marietta, MT because she has nowhere else to go and nothing to call her own but her dog, a bag of clothes, a car, and the old family ranch.

I'm not crazy about authors who feel the need to pile on the woes on a character. So Annie returns in shame to the town she was never coming back to because: (a) she divorced her husband because (b) he was a crook bilking people out of their money so (c) the FBI confiscated everything that they owned together including her decorating business but (d) she never really loved him but also (e) her older sister hates her because (f) Annie didn't care enough to come home for her father's funeral because (g) Annie was conflicted about her father because (h) her mother left him when (i) her younger sister died from cancer. Give me a break! Oh, and let's not forget that she left Carson behind as well even though they were high school sweethearts.

And, frankly, I'm not convinced that the author made a convincing case for why Annie finally realizes that she is home to stay for all the right reasons.

Annie Prudhomme is working as a waitress at the Main Street Diner in her hometown of Marietta. She didn't want to come back here, but she didn't have a choice. Her marriage fell apart when her ex-husband, Davis, was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme on the elderly. Now he is in jail and everything she has is gone except for her family ranch in Montana. One of the first people she meets since her return is her first love, Carson Scott. He lost his wife in an auto accident and is now a widower with a young son, Evan. She broke Carson's heart when she left. Now she is back and he wants her but can he forgive her? Will they get a another chance? Will Evan get the mommy he wants? Katherine Garbera has written an emotional story that explores how we need to forgive our mistakes and should take a chance on love. Annie may be feisty but she is afraid to commit. Conner is a realist who knows that he cares for Annie but will never let his actions hurt his son. How these two find themselves is a uplifting and romantic story that grabs your heart. I love A Cowboy For Christmas! It's a spellbinding love story that makes you feel their happiness.

Carson Scott is a widower with a 6 year old son. His weekly dinner with his brothers takes a dramatic turn when he runs into Annie, his "one that got away". Annie had left Marietta 15 years earlier in search of bigger and better things and to chase her dreams of being a designer. But her dreams crashed when her husband was arrested and she discovered that he was just a con man. Annie is trying to discover what kind of woman she really is and put her life back together. There is instant attraction between Annie and Carson, but after she ran away from Marietta and Carson 15 years ago is there any chance of rebuilding a relationship? And is a relationship with Carson even what she wants?
I loved this book. The emotions, fear, and uncertainty were very real and it was like I was feeling them right along with Annie and Carson. Carson is a wonderful father and a very caring man. These characters were very easy to connect to and I was drawn in and completely invested in the outcome. I would have loved for the story to continue.

Annie's back to the hometown she thought she left behind. Lost her career, home, marriage because her ex caught by the FBI in a Ponzi scheme. Luckily, she had a few personal items and the family homestead was in her name. Starting over as a waitress, fixing up the house, love was not the first thing on her list to rebuild her life.

Carson, the guy she left behind all those years ago walks into the diner. As much as hurts to see her, he stays, and talks to her. He has a son, is a widower, still a cowboy, but runs a Christmas Tree farm his mom started, and he is still hot. These strangers become friends again.

Annie is still figuring out life and doesn't want to make promises she can't keep. Carson doesn't want to play games. After a passionate night, things are awkward. As Annie gets her life together, she realizes, times change and so can dreams, but they need to find their way back to each other and start their own dreams. Perhaps, this time, a cowboy for Christmas is to way to start anew for a lifetime.

A book full of Christmas miracles.

For as long as Annie Prudhomme could remember, she would dream of the day she could leave Marietta, Montana. She was a young girl with big city dreams. She has been gone 15 years. What she didn't expect was to move away and to marry to a con man who would leave her penniless in the end. Returning home to live at her family home, she gets a job at the diner in town where she sees her old love Carson Scott. Could a cowboy get any more handsome then he was when he was younger? A few years prior to this one, Carson had lost his wife and is now raising his son on his own. Little Even justs wants a mommy for Christmas. Is it possible to start over after all this time? Carson worries about Annie being a runner and questions if she will stick around this time. He remembers how anxious she was just to get away before. The charm of the small town and Christmas season just might work their magic this time.

The next two books as well as this one, you’ll notice, are written by three different authors, but are a part of Montana Born series and is a Copper Mountain Christmas story.

This started off as a bittersweet story, but the more I read and got to know Annie and Carson, the more I liked them.

These two had a lot of history between them before Annie up and married someone else leaving her home town. It’s fifteen years later and she is back in town to pick up the pieces of her life and try to rebuild it, and the house that she inherited.

Again, if you’re a sucker for second chance at romance, you’ll love this one, but seriously, the story is well-written and plotted with some great characters and dialogue, so it will appeal to all romance lovers.

There’s not a better time to read it then holiday time. It’s short, sweet and just perfect fare for young and old.

A Cowboy For Christmas is a Copper Mountain Christmas novella set in the town of Marietta, Montana. This book is a story of two former flames reconnecting. At 18 Annie wanted better things and left Marietta swearing she would never return leaving behind Carson her old flame. Now 15 years later Annie is back in Marietta at Christmas time because she had no-where else to go other than her family home there in Marietta due to her now ex-husband's Ponzi scheming and the FBI confiscating everything. Returning to Marietta and working at a diner Annie sees and reconnects with Carson who is now a widower and father of a 6 year old son. This book is a second chance romance that will not disappoint a buyer and reader. A wonderful addition to the Copper Mountain theme.
Romance, reconciliations, Christmas spirit what more do you want!
I received an ARC Copy for an honest review.

What a wonderful Christmas story of second chances and fresh starts. This is the first story by Katherine Garbera I have read but I loved the way she showed the turmoil our own emotions and thoughts can put us through. Annie is so lost and so hard on herself and trying to figure out how to start her life over again in the town she said she would never go back to. Carson is just trying to live his life and raising his son alone after the death of his wife years earlier. His son wants a mommy for Christmas but he just isn't interested in anyone until he sees Annie is back in town. She was the one who got away. Can they get over their pasts to start a new? I just cant wait to read more Montana Born books!

A sweet novella about second chances for both Carson (widowed) and Annie (divorced), some soul searching and a Christmas miracle. These two reunite after loss and heartache over the past years. Will they be able to rekindle a love they once had?
I enjoyed the the small town romance, the close family ties and holiday traditions. The story has a great voice and realistic feel.
I received an ARC for my honest opinion and I'm excited to read more of the Copper Mountain Christmas Novellas!

Annie dreams of the big city life and making something of her self. Carson is content in Marietta and knows what he wants in life. Annie thinks she knows what will make her happy and that thinking causes her world to fall apart. Annie needs something to ground her and is Carson the answer? Will Annie learn to trust her heart vs her perception of happiness.

I really enjoyed reading about Annie and Carson, and Annie learning to trust her intuition.

Montanaborn books has another winner on their hands. Katherine Garbera writes a story of first loves, found again. Annie comes back home crushed by life and circumstances not of her making to find her first love a widower with a son . Sparks fly the first time Carson and Annie reconnect. Once she realizes that she is done running, they can both embrace their hearts desires and become the family they were always meant to be.

A wonderful Christmas story. The story of Carson and Annie with a history from 15 years. They both need to realize that "You can't keep looking back and wishing things to change". Plus, can there be a Christmas Miracle. This is great addition to the Copper Mountain books. Grab a blanket, a cup of hot chocolate and some Christmas cookies for good read.
