Roommates to Lovers

Asher and Noah are everything. From protective to bratty to the most supportive and loving guy you’ll ever meet.

My man Asher, is swoon worthy. Think of the most loyal guy in the world, who all he wants to go is protect you and take care of you. He would do anything he could to help and support Noah. As well as, the rest of their roommates. It’s just who Asher is.

Noah is the game winning champion of the house. At first, he hates how Asher is with him, it makes him feel like a child. He is a fireball.

When these two finally take the time to tell each other how they feel, there is no turning back. They instantly dive into each other.

I ate Asher up, he is so loyal, supportive, dedicated, and he would do anything for anyone. The way he feels emotions too, ugh, the perfect man, literally. 😍😍

Thank you Ashley Rayne, so much for letting me read this for you. This is my honest opinion.

I can’t not wait for Ronan’s story! So excited about that secretive guy.

- size difference
- virgin/first times

CW: addiction

Noah and Asher are roomies that have constantly batted heads since Noah moved in. Noah sees Asher as treating him like a child, but in actuality Asher just wants to look after Noah.

When the two are left alone for the summer, the animosity between them shift into something more, and the pair quickly fall into a relationship.

The relationship between Noah and Asher is super cute, but I think I would have enjoyed this better if Asher and Noah’s relationship had been a bit slower and more fleshed out. Sure they were roomies prior but they were barely together before the whole addiction/recovery/long distance relationship happened, and that's a lot to put on such a new relationship.

Perhaps it’s just me who had issues with the pacing? Idk

"He always brings out the brat in me and I can't control it" (Noah)

"He's been coming in each night I work, just sitting in the back of the club watching me." (Noah)

Protect You is the second book in the Beaumont University series, and I'm a case in point that this one can be read as a standalone. The series is about a group of college friends/acquaintances.

Protect You sees Asher and Noah as roommates who are opposite in so many ways. There is early banter (which at times can be little stilted), and some bossiness (which at times comes out of nowhere). Asher is quickly enamoured with Noah, who because of his financial situation is working multiple jobs. Noah is definitely bratty and fiercely rejects Asher treating him with kid gloves. Things go from roomies to partners pretty quickly when feelings are declared and once this happens, the dialogue between the two becomes more organic and meaningful. Once this happens the book finds it's groove but then despite the significance of the relationship, Noah's life begins to unravel and we observe him struggle with substance abuse and addiction.

The challenges experienced give great depth to these two, with strong emotions and exploration of their individual perspectives. Asher staunchly wanting to protect Noah, and Noah pushing back, trying to maintain his independence, wanting to do things his way. It's powerful and emotionally raw at times and the latter third absolutely made this book.

Thank you Ashely Rayne for the advanced copy of Protect You. It was one of my final reads of the year for 2023.

I’ve been waiting patiently for their story since the end of Perdue You and it was most definitely worth the wait! You could feel the tension between them and you knew that they were either going to fight or f•ck and well they have their own book now..

I’m going to pull my favoritism card right off the bat, he had my heart from chapter one, we need more men in the world like Asher Davenport. He definitely scored some brownie points for backwards hats, tattoos and something extra below the belt. oh did I mention he can cook? Swoony right? 😍🥵 He might also be the most supportive, kind hearted character I’ve ever read.

Noah is a twink compared to the bear size Asher, and he loves it, but he hates that Asher treats him like a kid. All that changes one summer night with a pair of booty shorts. When Noah starts to see the way Asher treats him a little bit differently and man these two are 🔥🔥 when they finally figure their sh•t out.

This is one that you're definitely going to want to read the trigger warning on. Working in the medical field I knew exactly where this was headed, did it stop me from pounding my fists and wanting to pull my hair out when it happened? Absolutely not lol

This has my favorite kind of HEA! This could be read as a stand-alone but it’s better read in order from the first book. I’m super intrigued about book three following, Noah’s best friend, Ronan. He’s a mysterious, secretive man who’s halloween costume choice alone will have you saying “I need to read that”.

*I want to thank Ashley for the opportunity to read and review this book, this is my honest opinion.

Crying tears of joy as I write this review because of the sweet HEA. This was such a good book. Seeing Asher and Noah interact in the previous book (Persuade You) was a good introduction to them. While it isn’t necessary, I do recommend reading that one first.
Asher and Noah are so sweet together and the spice was great! They got together super fast though. From the first book of the series, I expected there to be more back and forth between them before they got together. It was all pretty easy. They went through some stuff together towards the end but the support they gave each other was perfect. The time apart they spent broke my heart, (they were still together but living away from each other) but it got put back together again and ended in such a beautiful HEA. I also love that we get an epilogue years into the future.

Asher and Noah are relationship Goals. Asher has a huge heart, loyal, protective, and loves hard. Noah is super smart and the youngest of his housemates and beyond determined to finish college but when things get hard financially he must take on more responsibility to help offset his costs for his parents. Asher catches on pretty quickly that something is "off" with Noah and does what he does best by taking care of, and protecting, him

Asher just can't help himself when it comes to Noah and making sure he is well taken care of and happy. When they finally both admit to their feelings to one another there is no taking it back, they are full steam ahead.

I dont want to give away too much as it will spoil the story but this was a quick beautiful read.
Thank you so much for letting me read this wonderful story.

~Spoilers~
I can't even think of all the words to say I'm still in awe. The first book really hooked me in and got me so intrigued to read more. The writing of the characters from banter to friendship then to the romance is all just amazing. I recommend you read Persuade You then Protect You.
Now onto the spoilers.....
Its so touch and go at first they have a banter that your not sure if either of them are interested till it comes their chapter from their point of view. The names Noah calls Asher just makes me laugh. Noah kicks Asher's butt in video games which is adorable that reading those scenes. When Noah and Asher are alone one night and its like finally hook up already. I was so happy they finally took the plunge and got to be alone before the roommates came back from break. They got to explore each other and learn about these side of the feelings with no one present. It was so obvious that the guys were waiting for that happen. They knew it was bound to happen. There is a line that made me laugh hard either to fuck each other or kill each other. Leading up to the first time they have sex and Asher is pierced I was like oh my gosh. Asher is so gentle and sweet to Noah. He has a thing for his curls which is just darn right adorable. I can see where Noah didn't want to be treated like a kid since he was younger then the rest he wanted to be equal. Asher no matter what always wanted to protect him because he knew what the world would throw at him. He didn't want to see him hurt or worse to him someone try something with his man. You could tell each side had reasons. But they made it work. Till Noah began to take on too much and he needed pills. Adderall. I paused and took a note talking to Noah like he could hear me. I said please don't.. don't do it please. Then he took it I was speaking to him again through the note like no please spit it out. He started to use more I was hoping Asher would catch on sooner but he caught on when he was curious about seeing a pill and looked up the info. He had to he had to know. He put it all together and thought what can he do to help his man. He then decided to flush the pills. Which I was like yes Asher take care of him please don't let him do this. He was so concerned and had to do it. Asher blurted i love you and Noah didn't even take it in an account which was sad for Asher. The fit Noah had and how anger he was was a wake up call to him and decided to leave school which I was excited he was going to therapy and be with his parents. Still kept in contact with the guys and Asher. Who of course was so passionate and patient with Noah. So sweet. He went through tough times to kick the addiction he had but he knew he had a problem. Graduation day for the boys except Noah who was absent. They were all excited to finally be done and Asher knew he wanted to be a chef. As they graduated and Asher was walking and spotted Noah was like something out of a romantic movie. He was so excited to see Noah. He didn't care he had to embrace him. I said please be ready to be back and be with Asher again. It was so cute the reunion and they just bask in each others arms only to make love the next morning. It was sweet how much passion and love they had for each other. It showed everything they had in their passion moments. One year went by and Noah was graduating and I was so happy for him he finished and decided on being a lawyer. Five years later and things are beautiful between them and Asher has his restaurant about to open and Noah works for his future father in law.. Yes father in law. Asher pops the question on the beach I cried happy and was so thrilled for them. The words Asher said oh god it was soul touching. Yes Noah you say yes.. Yes take the ring. He did too excited but he loved Asher he was too happy in that moment. Which seeing them end like that was just oh my god. I'm reading both of these back to back again when Ronan's story comes out so I can read them all together again.

Noah Atwood (19-ish), student at BU, pursuing a degree in business, bratty twink.
Asher Davenport (21-ish), student at BU, pursuing a degree in accounting, overprotective bear.

While these characters are introduced in the previous book, Persuade You, this could be read as a standalone, pretty much all the context for their relationship is disclosed in this book; they are roommates and Asher is overly protective of Noah, who is crushing hard over. Noah in turn is is irritated that Asher seemingly treats him like a child because he definitely wants him to think of him as a man.

This book is quite long and felt rather like two stories in one book; the idyllic low-angst summer lovin' story during which Asher and Noah are the only two housemates to stay behind and with Noah starting a new job as a server at Juicy Peaches, a gentlemen's club, Asher finds it impossible to keep his opinions and hands to himself. The relationship they establish is honestly couples goals. I especially loved the care-taking role that Asher naturally fell into, which led him to discover a love of cooking and him finding his passion. Noah never lost his snark and they paired together so well. I enjoyed the fact that they took the time to get to know each other and even their physical relationship progressed slowly and steadily. A fact Noah had definite opinions about. I adored the habit they fell into of Asher reading to Noah before they fell asleep.

When they guys return to school the more angsty story begins as Noah is quickly overwhelmed trying to juggle both his job as a barrista at Brewz as well as that of a waiter at Peaches in addition to his full-time studies while maintaining a scholarship. I thought the slippery slope that Noah found himself on was very well described as well as the behaviours observed by his roommates, especially Asher and Ronan, his bestie. His friends support may have been a little idealistic, but this is romance after all an I didn't need my heart ripped out so I was grateful that while the subject of prescription pill abuse and addiction was treated with the gravitas that it deserves, it wasn't drawn out too terribly much and didn't get overly dark since that isn't typically the type of books I enjoy.

After Noah returns home and begins his recovery journey, it felt like he and Asher were rather disconnected and I was left wishing for a little more. I would have loved a full-circle moment whereby Asher would read to Noah over the phone before bed. I just needed something because they were both so lonely and there didn't really seem to be a valid reason for it. The occasional group text was nice, but both Asher and Noah needed the reassurance that things would work out and to be honest, so did I. This section was relatively short, so it wasn't a huge deal but it still pulled me out of the story.

Again there were a couple of delightful epilogues and I was thrilled I could just read them without jumping through endless hoops - THANK YOU!

I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

We interrupt your regularly schedule reading to bring you something that won't fucking trigger my already too thin mental state. I want to read more dark romance and finish some other series, but I'm trying to be kind to my body while it's struggling to take care of itself, hence a cute low-angst romance. "Protect you You" is the second novel in Ashley Rayne's Beaumont University series.
["What happens when you fall in love with your roommate?

Asher
The emotions that I tried to hide behind the constant bickering are finally out there.
Our never-ending fighting stops. The dinners I make for us have become a routine.
The next thing I know, my roommate is my boyfriend, and everything is falling into place.

Noah
Until everything falls apart.
All Asher wants to do is shield me from the hardened world around us, but the one thing he can’t protect me from is myself.

Will Asher and Noah’s love be strong enough to survive life’s twists, or will the imperfections overwhelm the happiness it can bring?"]

This one was still as sweet and kind and fluffy and spicy as the first novel, but it was less nice to my current mental state. I thought the trigger warnings would be okay, and yet here I am, crying.

But Asher was perfect. So fucking perfect. Noah has his struggles and his demons, but he figured it out; he had a huge support system, and he asked for help.

Together, they were a hot mess. But they communicated and compromised and were patient and they made it work.

I'm even more impatient for Ronan's book after all the hints to it in this one now though!! D: :D

(ENG) I really liked how the subject of addiction was handled in this second book of the series. It's not the main focus of the story and it manages to keep a light tone while showing us how easy it is to fall into addiction, how it affects relationships, and the need to overcome it.
Noah is a great character, but Asher really made me fall head over heels for him. He's just the loveliest person, with a love to give that runs through the pages.
The author is developing her skills as a writer and it shows. I feel that she needs to rely less on telling us things and instead make us feel them, but it was still an enjoyable read that I really enjoyed.

🩵Protect You 🩵 is the second book in the Beaumont University series about college roommates, Noah and Asher. This series continues the series where each book follows a new couple through their journey to an HEA. ** Please read the triggers: this story may contain content that can be uncomfortable for some readers. Please read the authors note at the beginning of the book **

Asher, the self-deprecating, protective, jock and who has fallen for his twink roommate Noah, and they spend time alone over the summer. Noah has to work two jobs, one at a coffee shop and one at a gentleman's club to pay his rent and stay in school. Things start to turn when Noah can’t keep up with working two jobs and going to school so he takes a few pills from a co-worker to keep up with everything. Asher being the protector only wants to help his new boyfriend and that is when things start to crash. I immediately fell in love with both MCs They way this was written made me want to reach through the pages and hug those boys. I loved all the steamy scenes. 🌶️
I did not read the first book in the series but I didn’t have any problems keeping up with the story and can be read as a standalone. The book has the MCs from the first book in the series as supporting characters who also want to protect, Noah. Love these boys together 🩵. I am excited to read Ronan’s story in the next book in the series.

ARC Review

Thank you, @ashleyrayne_author, for the gifted eARC.

Ever since Noah moved into the house with him and his other roommates, Asher has had a huge thing for Noah. But Asher keeps it hidden. Instead, he makes sure to cook meals so that Naoh has dinner every time he comes home in the evening from his summer job. What Asher doesn't know is that Noah feels the same way about him. It's not long before Asher and Noah go from arguing roommates to boyfriends. Once their relationship starts, it's threatened. Will their love be strong enough for them to make it through as a couple?

Protect You is the second book in the Beaumont University series. I did not read the first book, but I had no issues following along with the plot of this one. There are no words to describe how much I loved this book. This was told in dual pov, and I adored both MCs. I think I may have loved Asher and his huge, grumpy, overprotective character a little bit more than Noah's sweet sunshine character. This book is full of so many swoon-worthy moments and spicy, steamy moments between these two men. There is also a point where Noah is going through a really hard time and struggling, and Asher is there to support Noah with love, care, and to be his rock. This is the type of love that everyone dreams of having. Now, I'm going back to read the first book in this series and wait impatiently for the next book to release.

SWEET ROOMMATES TO LOVERS!💕

Persuade You brought us Carter and West’s best friends to lovers love story that we devoured now Protect You brings us Noah Ashwood the new roommate and Asher Davenport with crushes on each other’s poignant yet sweet love story!

They were just so cute with their year long foreplay of bickering and bantering until they are left alone for the summer… and Noah starts working at a certain gentleman’s club….

The author depicted drug abuse of prescription drugs beautifully with Noah and how the stress of working two jobs with finals plus a new relationship can play havoc with mental health and your health!

The support that Asher gave Noah and the patience he portrayed was awe inspiring! His possessive and protective side was so endearing!

The confidence that Noah gave Asher regarding his cooking and bedroom skills was so sweet and you just want to cuddle him like Asher did throughout their journey!

I loved them as a sweet couple with many struggles to overcome with the help of their supportive roommates, family and each other!

A beautiful epilogue a year later followed by five more years rounds off their story💕

The mysterious Ronan is next…. Can’t wait!

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest non biased opinion.

Low angst sweet romance

I liked Carter and West and for a debut book, it was good. Asher and Noah's story really wound around my heart, with the two bickering unknowingly as foreplay before things suddenly get hot and heavy. Seeing all five roommates together again was great, with Carter and West all loved up and loud about it, and Asher and Noah caught up in what they each think are unrequited feelings.
Despite the trigger warnings which you should read if you have any triggers yourself, it wasn't dark and desperate in the way some books are. Ashley never made light of the problem but wrote sensitively about what was happening and how it affected all five of them.
I loved getting to know Asher who is definitely my favourite of the five friends. A protector and caretaker through and through, a big man with such a big heart, I needed to hug him for his lack of self-belief when he was so wonderful. Noah was a lovely character too. I loved the support their family and friends gave them.
The 'years later' epilogue gave me the HEA I needed, and now I'm waiting (not so) patiently for Ronan's story with his (not so) mystery man!

⚠️Read triggers.

I was given and ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review. Protect You is book #2 in the Beaumont University series, it can be read as a standalone. I thought Asher and Noah's story was adorable, they are roommates turned lovers. Noah struggles with an adderall addiction, and you should tread lightly if this is a trigger for you. Not only is this about their love, but it's also about Noah facing his issues head on and knowing the only person who can save him, is himself. But I absolutely LOVED Asher. He's protective, and always worried about Noah. Plus when he saved Noah his fries knowing he'd want some because he ordered a salad at lunch... I knew I was in love, lol. I'm glad they got their HEA and I can't wait for Ronan's story. I'll also be going back to read about Carter and West.

A cute roommates to lovers story.

Protect You by Ashley Rayne is the second book in the Beaumont University series. Like the first book, this one follows another set of roomates, Asher and Noah. They start off as roommates on unfriendly terms, (I wouldn't say rivals because they butt heads a lot but they don't hate each other). The pacing of the romance is good and makes the emotions the characters experience very believable. I like that the author wrote the dialogue and the actions the MC's take in a way that is accurate for young people to act like. Noah and Asher are both college aged and their relationship matures. They have their ups and downs, and learn from their mistakes. The only downside of the book is that there is too much going on for the length of the book. Some serious issues as well as the character growth is a bit rushed. There are a lot of descriptions of Noah's actions that could have been shown more instead of told on page. This was a pleasant weekend read that also left me curious for the next book.

I liked this book better than the first one in the series, but there were still a few things I disliked. First, I thought Asher should have had to grovel a bit more after his horrible behavior right after his and Noah's first kiss. Then, I also thought that Asher continued to act as if he was Noah's Daddy despite him saying it wasn't his kink. Seriously, dude, vanilla people don't usually act that protective or get jealous about silly things. The last thing I thought was weird was how quickly Noah processed being confronted with his Adderal addiction. Like he's all angry and irritable in the morning after the confrontation and by that same afternoon is crying and realizing his bad decisions about taking those pills. Now, I've never been addicted to anything, but I have had friends who've struggled with addiction, and no one's story with it was that simple. It just felt like it got resolved way too fast. Overall though, I really liked the story and enjoyed reading about Asher and Noah's relationship.

This book is second book of Ashley Rayne’s Beaumount University series. However the book Protect you can consider as standalone book too.

Asher and Noah are roommates who are very opposite in their personalities. There’s banter, bossiness, and more. Noah have to work few jobs to afford school and Asher is quickly feel love with him. Both started realized that they have feelings for each other. It’s from roommates to partners pretty quickly and their talks have much more meaningful and more respect each other.

Sadly Noah have to fight with his struggle with substance abuse and addiction. With the challenge rise, Asher want to protect Noah so much but Noah push him away. Noah want do his things on his own and being independent guy instead being protected by Asher or others.

The book is very emotionally and powerful. It is very worth to read this book. Thank you Ashley for wonderful book! Can’t wait to see your books in the future!

- Thoughts on Protect You -
Listen, I love a good MM romance - but usually they’re sports romances especially if it’s college age. But Ashley puts a new spin on it by making some of them athletic but not playing college sports. I like this because it means there are other aspects of the MCs’ lives that are focused on.

Anyways, the dynamic between Asher and Noah is *chefs kiss* 🤌🏼 the bickering and getting under each other’s skin on purpose was so good. Mix in the mutual pinning and it’s just so, so perfect. I also love the size difference in the MCs that’s a favorite trope of mine in MM romances. There’s also a twist where the smaller non-athletic guy asks the big athletic guy, “Who hurt you?” And it was just so cute!

This was released today, so be sure to check it out!!! Here’s what you can expect:

I loved this book two in this series. it focus on opposites Asher and Noah. Asher is the bear of a jock whereas Noah is a twink working so many jobs he is struggling to with school. Due to that he makes a bad choice and Asher is there to protect and help him. I love how Asher is pinning for Noah, but hides his feelings, but he is so protective of Noah. Noah I just wanted to hug and tell him it would be okay. Such a heartwarming lovestory about two men that care for one another. A fantastic book about love, support and caring for others. I loved how we also got to catch up with some of the characters from book one. This book filled my heart and had so many wonderful heartwarming moments. I would encourage grabbing some wine and enjoy this read. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

What a book. I had to wait to process my review. This book touched on a very touchy subject at least for me. The abuse of ADD meds among young men. It's a huge issue that people don't understand. Thank you for shedding some light on something that's a bigger problem than we think. I adored both the MC and I saw the love between both. Even after ones breakdown Asher stands by his man even at a distance. They never strayed and fought for the bigger picture. Even though we would like to think this relationship was unhealthy because drug use was involved but both found a way to make it thru to the other side. This truly is a fantastic read with indepth characters who are flawed individuals. But in the end all was good with a happy relationship.

I loved Asher and Noah when I was first introduced to them the first Beaumont University book, and I loved them even more here. Ashley is able to create compelling characters and draw you in, and this story was no different.

These two go through so many changes over a short period of time. Initially they are bickering all the time, which their roommates describe as foreplay. Then, they’re all lovey-dovey as they begin dating and falling for one another. But, then things take a turn as everything becomes too much for one of the characters. Pressures of school, parental pressure, work, life, etc. It all just becomes too much.

Seeing how they handle this monumental wrench in their relationship, the distance, the time apart, and how they handle things once they see one another again. The patience they have, the way they make time and space for one another. That they don’t feel the need to rush.

This is my first read from this author and fully enjoyed it. It is the second book in the series and for me I didn’t think I missed out on anything having not read book one yet!

Asher and Noah are the perfect mix of bratty/protective and loyal you can want! Yes it takes them a minute to be normal people and tell the other ‘hey I like you as maybe more than a friend’ but if the characters in these books jumped straight to that there would probably be less of a story, the push/pull is the best part.

I love that Asher took the protective role and these two truly and beautiful together.

I will definitely be adding book one to my TBR for future reading.

I just loved this couple. Asher and Noah are both wonderful characters and I appreciate that they felt and acted like real college age young adults. They make mistakes and crack a bit under the pressures of finding love, getting through college, and figuring out a plan for the future. They are also both crazy sweet and endearing, Asher in particular is just so flipping lovely. I loved their connection, their drama, and the emotion in their romance. I also loved the wonderful friends and supportive family filling out the cast of characters. Really excellent.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I had the best of time reading this one! This was a good mix of not too angsty with some moments that really got to me and it was such the perfect vibes for me.

I really love books where people with pre-existing relationship get together and they have the strength of their previous relationship to help build their romance, so the roommate to lovers set up in this book just really worked for me.

I also loved the relationship development in this book and how the book included them facing some trials in their relationship and I loved seeing how they navigated those.

This was such a lovely read and it was very heartwhelming too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved following Asher and Noah’s story as they grew together as a couple. The last half of the story had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down!

I loved the personal growth each character had through the book and seeing glimpses of Carter and West from book one.

Also, yay for extended epilogues! I love when a book has a farther flash forward!

While not necessary to have read before, I do wish I had re-read book 1 more recently so I could remember the dynamics between the roommates better.

Overall great read and I’m looking forward to Ronan’s book!

Who does not love a young protective bear who can cook? Noah of course adores him but likes to be a brat about his protectiveness over him. Noah can totally take care of himself but these two together are just everything. I really enjoyed that this was low angst and that we got lots of book time with them together as a couple experiencing new and intimate things together. Size difference and a virgin too. Sweet, Spicy easy read with two very likable guys. And I must mention we get a wonderful epilogue as well.
