The Burning Witch #3

The Burning Witch 3

Rate this book
A young witch takes on burning new passions, simmering ancient grudges, and timeless magical mayhem in the last book of this delightful romantasy trilogy.

Lady Katarina Ashowan is used to getting into trouble, but her latest muddle takes the cake. A moment’s weakness in her attraction to Eric Reyes, crown prince of Daxaria, has landed her in an unexpected marriage with the man . . . just as her father, Lord Finlay Ashowan, arrives in Troivack to check on his headstrong daughter. As if figuring out how to acclimate her father to her scandalous elopement isn’t bad enough, there are rumors of dangerous magical plots afoot at court—with Kat seemingly at the center of them all.

For one thing, the devil is still prowling around, with dubious intentions as to Kat’s powers. For another, an underground network of wrongdoers has been spreading a mysterious and addictive drug throughout both Troivack and Daxaria. And perhaps most concerning, a villainess is hiding in plain sight somewhere close to Kat and her best friend, Queen Alina, hoping to use them to strike at the devil. Now it’s up to Kat—with the help of her kitten familiar, Pina, as well as her friends and family—to untangle the twisted web of courtly and magical intrigue before her hurried honeymoon is cut short by deadly disaster . . .

A pitch-perfect blend of humor, romance, fantasy, and mystery, The Burning Witch 3 is the brilliant and heart-pounding conclusion to the enchanting House Witch spin-off series.

The third volume of a new spin-off of the hit romantic-fantasy series that has more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

It was just a lot of fun to immerse myself in the world of the House Witch again. I just finished The Burning Witch 3 and like the previous 5 books in this world, it was a delight. This was the 3rd book of The Burning Witch series. It propelled us into Katrina Ashowan's world serving the King and Queen of their previous rival country Trovachia. Known for getting herself and those around her into all sorts of problems, Katarina continues this behavior while helping uncover traitors and threats to the throne. Also, along the way, manages to fall in love with the wayward son of the King of Daxaria. She proves her courage, her ability to adapt, and her vast talents as a witch.
Once again, Delemhach proves her worth as a writer with another page turning adventure story that was humorous, exciting, and tear-jerking, as well. I was pleased to find out that Delemhach plans to continue the stories of this fascinating world and its fascinating people.

Bitter sweet ending

I loved these books and wish there would be more to them just like the house witch trilogy. However I am excited for the next set of adventures with the 2nd child of the house witch.

In this book we follow Kat and the shenanigans that she gets up to with the war looming in. There is a lot that happens in this bookbto make it very action packed. However there is one scene that is absolutely heart breaking with a miscarriage involved. I love how the familiars have there own involvements throughout the story and we even meet a new familiar that is absolutely adorable in my opinion.

I NEED MORE NOW!!! I have questions and theories that need answers.

Ok, rant over. This book/series is amazing. I believe I said it in one of my previous reviews, but typically, I don't like continuation of series or the kid troupe, but this does it all so well. The mix of old and new characters, even with such a big time gap, is amazing.

This book, in particular, is just stunning. I was at the edge of my seat, wanting more. Coming up with outrageous theories, trying to guess what would happen next. Where some I got right, most I was presently surprised about. Delemhach knows how to make fun, avenderous, and even hilarious books. Can't wait to see where the next series takes us!

This book felt very anticlimactic to me. The beginning was very well written but not attention grabbing and the rest of the book had a lot of plot holes or under answered questions. I don't know if it just went over my head or what. I did still love returning to this cozy world that I have loved since Fin brought his old broom to his new home in the castle but this just lacked something for me.

Okay so usually these books are my favourite thing in the world but the plot in this one wasn't doing it for me. I found it a little boring tbh and just wanted more of the comedic, cute, cosy character interactions that make these books so magical and comforting. Still love the world, but this particular story has been my least favourite by a long way.

I’d give it 3.5⭐️. It was just ok. I think a lot of the book seemed to drag and I feel like most of it could’ve been left out. It got good towards the end, but otherwise I was very bored for most of it. The brief storylines with Pina were my fav😻

Is there a book Delemhach can't successfully write!?

This series was so good!! It intertwined itself beautifully into The House Witch series, but also made way for more to come! Oh I can't wait for more to come out!!!

I’m just obsessed with this world. 12/10.
If you haven’t read The House Witch trilogy, do it. Then read The Princess of Potential. Then come and read this trilogy. I love all of these characters so much.

I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series, but I had such of a hard time getting into this one. It was still good, but I was a little bored and had to make myself continue to read it. I am looking forward to the future books & especially for Tamlin’s story. Hopefully the future books will grab my attention a bit more!

FIN AND THE FAMILIARS!!!! Fin was a way more likable protagonist than Kat and the first two books of this series were missing the humor of the familiars from Fin’s original trilogy. I’m so happy that the original trilogy characters were more present in this book, and that the familiars were more active. Reggie the chunky raccoon got me dead.

Sir Cleophus Miller is so goofy for following Pina. I thought there’d be an actual explanation as to why everyone falls in love with her, but I guess she’s just cute, not magical.

I liked Kat’s found family, but I LOVED Fin’s found family— I feel like the relationships in Fin’s trilogy were better developed and more prominent.

This book had a satisfying plot, but I cannot believe they left us off on a cliffhanger for what seems like a third trilogy for Tam djrksngbsndn

I enjoyed this novel the most of the three Burning Witch books, providing a satisfying ending to the main character's arc. I thought she was more likable and mature by the end of the arc, as opposed to the first book, where I found her edgy and annoying. Maybe this is because this book was more about drama than outright romance. There was also a lot of action in this novel, but always underscored by the author's use of levity, as befitting an overarching series that firmly started in the cozy fantasy category. I look forward to reading further.

Crazy….
Zany….
Fun……
What more needs to be said?

I don't know what it is about this series, but I fell in love with it immediately and my love for it has not let up at all as we get more and more books. The setting, the world building, the magic system, but ESPECIALLY the characters and the character development make this such a freaking joy to read.

It is funny...no, a better word is that it is hilarious. Sometimes intentionally so and sometimes the humor is more subtle, but still always there. The found family in this and the family ties are heart warming. The action, the drama, the storyline....all of it continue to make this series so amazing that I did not want it to end.

Now, I'm just left hoping that this is NOT the end and that there will be more to come. There are still so many characters with opportunities to explore.

*cough cough* Tam......??? I'm dying to know his story.....

And I can't forget to mention the narration. Matthew Wolf does a superb job. This book is 18 hours long....18 hours. Yet it flew by, and I was amazed to realize that we had gotten to the end so quickly.

Amazing....just amazing.

The audiobook is not like Kindle version

The Kindle version differs from the audio version of this book, whether this is because the voice artist is going with the flow and has some other reason for cutting certain segments of it or whether it’s just the way he got the script I don’t know, but it is different. Is it less enjoyable no, it’s is OK it’s fine it’s excellent and it done very well, but it is quite different Is it as good as the book, which is better? I have to say the book is better and this has to do with the way it’s written, although I must admit he brings the characters very much to life and that is not a bad thing. The pieces that he leaves out would have added I believe more but not so much that one feels that one has missed something do I feel you should’ve left them in I think so so I would say the written word is far better than the audio but I also admit that on days when I am not doing so well, and there are a lot of those, the audio version is a welcome way to enjoy the book, but I’m glad that I got the book 1st and the audio enhancements 2nd.

Now that I’ve gotten that bit out-of-the-way I can’t wait for the next trilogy that’s following the family of the House witch it is truly a fantastic or a fantastic read. I highly recommend this book. It is one of few that I had given five stars. It’s really more deserving of seven or even 10. It’s that good.

Ohhhh Yeah. The absolutely purrrfect book for the finale of Kat and Eric's story. And yeah with both Kat and Fin, her father the House Witch, both stars in their own books, and now both featured in BurningWitch 3. I really wondered how Delemhack would be able to juggle all the characters without losing themselves in the quagmire. Well of course they did it with aplomb! And of course Pina and Kraken, the witches familiar's are right in thick of things to make sure that they're working towards the same goal and that everything works out for their own witches sake.

Here's some quotes that amused me:

“By the way, I forgot to tell you, but Sir Miller got a gift for Pina. He wants to speak with you tonight about giving it to her.” Kat looked at Eric’s barely restrained smile curiously. “I’m relatively certain he knit her a sweater. He has a matching one.”

“You gave her a puppy every time she was sad?” Fin laughed. “Gods, you must be overrun with them.” He took another drink, having only been jesting in his response. “She has twenty-five dogs. It’s true.” Fin sprayed the moonshine out of his mouth..."

"... you’re comparing a chicken to a horse. You’re the chicken in this analogy."

After finishing book three, I took some time to reflect before writing this review. While I enjoyed it, I preferred book two. Delemhach did an excellent job setting up the events that unfolded in this installment. The book started strong and had me captivated from the beginning. However, the pace felt unnecessarily slow around the halfway mark. It seemed like either minor details were dragged out too long or there was too much happening at once, causing some confusion with characters and events.

The latter part of the book was fantastic. I loved how it transcended expectations and showcased the evolution of our main characters. Erik and Kat remained as mesmerizing as when we first met them. Some of the betrayals were truly shocking, leaving me on the edge of my seat. Reconnecting with Fin and Annika was also a highlight, especially the beautifully written reconciliation between Fin and Erik.

The epilogue was a perfect conclusion. The ceremonial welcoming back to Daxaria gave me goosebumps. There are a few significant unresolved plots that I anticipate will be addressed in Tamlin’s series. It’s a long wait, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

Overall, this was a beautiful story. Seeing Kat’s evolution and Erik’s growth was deeply satisfying.

I adore both series by this author so far, and really look forward to the next series set in this world, as well as anything else she decides to write. This is about the Housewitch's adult daughter. She's at least 18 years old, and accompanying her BFF the newly married and crowned queen to a land on the other side of the sea. It's very violent there, and kind of backward about women's and magic user's rights.

In the last book, Kat married the crown prince of her home country under rushed, almost shot-gun circumstances, and at the very beginning of this book almost immediately after, Kat's dad and his familiar show up, with her mom to follow a few days later. There are a lot of fireworks when they find out all that's been happening.

There are also a lot of plot lines to resolve. There are traitors to unearth, and an attack to thwart, a kidnapped friend to find, and a whole lot of noblewomen to train in combat. There's also the secret of how a drug is made and what it does to unravel, and a whole bunch of hidden magic users to recruit. And there are scenes were the familiars shine.

The next spin off series seems like it will focus on Tam, Kat's brother.

This is not my favorite book of the burning witch series because of the ending.

Delemhach is amazing when it comes to character building but I feel like she didn’t do much with Tamlin, who is obviously going to be the next main character of the book series.

Due to the lack of building on Tamlin, I was not left excited for the next book as I usually am because all my favorite characters are already past the climax of their stories.

I also wished the enemy of this book wasn’t so random, I enjoyed the personal connection Finlay had with his father which made it more intriguing and relatable. With the enemy being a stranger, I felt like it lacked emotional connection.

Despite all of that! I really enjoyed Katarina’s character and how her relationship matured with Eric. You can tell that Delemhach knows what a healthy relationship consists of through her characters relationships and it makes me feel truly safe as a reader!!

I am looking forward to making a connection with Tamlin in the next book! (:

An amazing finale to The Burning Witch series.

I enjoyed this book a lot. The stakes were higher and tensions were there. Yet it still find the time for the well loved humor, tender moments and characters interactions.

While I did find that the plot lost itself a tiny bit before the main story ending, it didn't mind it at all. I would've imagined a more a more epic ending considering Kat was the main character of this series. And while it was action packed, I found it could've been even more.

I cannot wait to read the next series that will be about Tamlin, Katharina twin brother.

I hope we will still see some of the other characters we fell in love with in the next series. But we did have a good farewell with most in this.

If you're hesitating to begin this series, don't. It is full of humor, amazing characters interactions through different emotions, one of the coziest story despite the action, and an interactive magic system as well as world creation. I highly recommend it.

Well done!

I missed the Burning Witch and House Witch books so much. I thought May 28 was never going to get here.

Delemhach has a way of bringing out humor and, when appropriate, sadness in their stories. They do an excellent job of building the world in which their characters live. Each character is fully developed. The way the story proceeds makes sense. It doesn’t have abrupt changes or disconnects that don’t fit. It’s well thought out.

I read so many comparatively second rate stories while waiting for this book to come out. I’m glad to have finally been able to read this segment of Delemhach’s witch series. I’m hoping that we get to find out more about Tam soon. When we do, I’m sure his story won’t be disappointing.

Thank you, Delemhach. Please continue writing your wonderful books.

If there's one thing Delemhach knows how to do, it's ending a series with a BANG! The conclusion to the Burning Witch series was so bittersweet, especially since I grew to love Katarina Ashowan (now Reyes *cue confetti*) so SO much, but I was pleasantly surprised when I began to realize that the author had yet to focus on Tamlin Ashowan's story. MORE HOUSE WITCH CONTENT YES!!! The pros as usual are the characters (Delemhach is such an expert at creating a lovable cast and crew) and the slew of familiars who had me ROLLING. Comic timing was pristine as one might expect from a Delemhach creation! Cons would probably be the fact that the climax and ending battle felt very confusing with a lot of loose ends, but I expect they'll be addressed in the next series. Either way, they get 5 stars from me!!!

A nice conclusion to the Burning Witch series.

I hafta admit that I zoned out a bit around midway through this one (which is what's keeping it from being a full five stars). It was a might heavier on plot and lighter on relationships than the last few books and I (weirdly) had a hard time caring much about the stakes. In this sort of cozy fantasy, it's pretty much a guarantee that most everything will work out wonderfully and the inflated sense of danger never really sold me in the way that previous books in the series could.

However, the ending was great. I teared up multiple times (leader Faucher, ironically, gets me every time). It was fun watching old main characters bump into new ones. There's an overweight raccoon. 8/10. Really fun time even if it didn't dominate my attention in the way that previous installments did.

This series continues to be one of my favorites on the whole planet. This book came out a few weeks ago and I once again inhaled it far too quickly for my own good (because I now have to wait for the next again).

In this conclusion to Kat's trilogy she proves herself to be even more of a fiery badass, finally gets to a good and healthy point in her relationship with literally the entire world (in no small amount thanks to her familiar, Pina) and finds her place and her power. I adored her story, loved all the cameos and references from past books, and already looking forward to the next one, that is apparently going to be focusing on her twin, the enigmatic Tam!

More of this please and thank you!

I love this authors writing style and cozy feel to her books. The low review is solely on my enjoyment of the book and the low review is because I was a totally dummy and didn't read the first two books in this series and didn't realize until half way through this book. It had been a while since I'd read one of her books and I figured I could pick up the story where I left off which is why I didn't immediately realize it was that I hadn't read the books instead of just my poor memory of the story line. This book felt slower paced and longer, which again may have been due to the fact that I didn't know what was going on for a good portion of the book. All in all though, I really like this author and her books are usually very enjoyable.

"The Burning Witch 3" by Delemhach is an engaging continuation of the series, filled with the ups and downs that fans have come to love, especially the complex relationship between Katarina and Eric. Their dynamic is a highlight of the book, keeping me invested in their journey as they navigate the challenges and emotions thrown their way.

However, the ending left me somewhat disappointed. It felt unclear and not as well executed as the rest of the story. After such a compelling build-up, I expected a more satisfying conclusion that tied everything together. Despite this, the overall experience was still enjoyable, and the book’s strong points made it worth the read.

The hardest part is waiting for the next part of the book.

I enjoy the main and secondary characters, the world building, and the villains (tbh). The author throws plenty of twists and turns into the plot as well as keeps it moving at a pretty fast pace. That said, there were a few spots that drug a bit and I felt like the repetitive nature of the council meetings and the training sessions could have been lightened. It was interesting at the end when Pina explained her "power" more and it made more sense of some of the previous occurrences. A few characters went missing that weren't explained. There is definitely a wide-open door for either a Witch 4 or a new series spin off with Tamlin.
