"Captain Green and the Plastic Scene is a fun way to teach young children about the dangers of plastic waste and how they can become true 'super humans' who take care of the world."
Marine Conservation Society, UK

"I really loved this story, it’s been written beautifully by Evelyn Bookless, cleverly plotted to show the damage that our overuse and dumping of rubbish is causing through real examples. Then, via Captain Green’s explanations, what must be done to combat the problem. There’s enough text to make the story a good length for older children but not so much it goes over the heads of little ones, a really nice balance. Danny Deeptown’s illustrations are bright and colourful with pops of personality in the creatures and the humans, and lots of brilliantly little details, giving the pictures interest and entertainment value without detracting too much from the importance of the story. The use of typography and illustration combined really hammers home the point of the book in a brilliant way."
Book Monsters

"Captain Green is the new superhero who could convince your kid to ditch plastic."

Captain Green has to deal with one terrible enemy, plastic pollution. In a lively superhero book where the plot moves at a brisk pace, the author has managed, not only to entertain her reader, but to insert a lot of environmental information. It is mostly about our plastic problem, but it also explain the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle in a very clear way. I think this is one of the better green children’s book for this age group that I’ve read. In 2021 the second book about Captain Green will be published which will have something to do with trees, I think. Definitely an author to keep an eye out for.

Does the world need another superhero? It sure does... In the form of Captain Green who loves animals and loathes plastic. Captain Green and the Plastic Scene is Evelyn Bookless's debut children's picture book. Written with a conscious effort to raise awareness of the devastating effect that plastic waste has on our oceans and beaches, this children's picture book will entertain, inspire and educate young minds on the value of animal lives and the importance of the three Rs.

Lively language and action packed illustrations make this book a fun read aloud. Captain Green combats all kinds of pollution. However the calls for help from the animals have a common theme. He fights and fights, but he needs more help. What is a super hero to do?

This book is a good way to introduce children to the problems of plastics in our oceans. While this is a message centered book, its lively plot keeps it from feeling heavy handed. An well written and enjoyable story on a timely and important theme.

A super story about a brand new superhero with a very important mission... Keeping our planet clean. This book couldn't have come at a better time. It's our duty to teach our children about the importance of the three R's, and to show them how to be more conscientious consumers. And what better way to do that than through a fun book with a very lovable character, Captain Green!

I love this book! It should be in every classroom. I teach grade 3 and use it as an excellent resource for 'Earth Day'. It is a great springboard for generating relevant discussions and classroom activities. Captain Green helps teach my students the importance of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. The fact that Captain Green is himself just a boy, allows my students to see how they too can become 'superheros' and help save the earth. The illustrations are bold and colourful, captivating any audience. They compliment the story beautifully. Finally, a book geared to young students that focuses on the importance of preserving our environment. A must for all primary teachers!

Great especially for preschoolers (4-7y) who have already been introduced to the three Rs concept. They get the concept and the superhero element with some cool phrases hits the spot. Quirky artwork and easy reading.

Newly graduated superhero Captain Green comes to the rescue, not just for the sea creatures who call for help, but for all of us. This story reminds us that we can ALL be superheroes when it comes to saving the earth. By focusing our everyday actions on the Three R's, we can make a difference.

The illustrations, showing increasing levels of plastic pollution, nicely balance between presenting the environmental horror humans have created in the seas and spreading hope in the children and animals. Older readers can delve in and discuss the damage they see while younger ones can focus on the resolution to problem in ways that could alleviate anxiety.

The key to creating a generation of environmentalists is education starting at the very earliest stages. The superhero model is a surefire way to appeal to kids, making this book is a great resource to have in that tool box.

My kids and I just love this book. With a powerful message, it is both gentle and cleverly written. Captain Green is a super cool super hero and gives the important message that all kids can be superheros too and help to save our oceans. The book is written is a really fun way and my kids both love playing Captain Green, their new favourite superhero. The story is also very clever in how it delivers the message that its all our responsibility to be kinder to nature and my kids now have a great understanding of the damage plastics do to our oceans. The illustrations throughout are beautiful; fun, bright and eye catching. Highly, highly recommend this book, both to bring the joy of a new cool super hero into your home and also the important message of saving our oceans.

Captain green is such an adorable character. Kids need to be sensitive towards their relationship with plastic and Captain Green really does a good job in initiating such ideas. A good simple storytelling with gorgeous illustrations brings out the despair and cheer equally, in the storyline.
The 3Rs of sustainable living is widely known but we do need a superhero to remind us all (especially the little ones) how to practice living it.
I just can't get over the Captain exclaiming, "Oh, green gravy!" as he slams into a tree! the story is so well crafted with humorous onomatopoeias and action descriptions. This goes in my Christmas list for my 5-year-old.

Highly recommend this book to any parent, aunt/uncle, granny/grandad etc of a young child! In a very fun and clever way this book shows children how they can be the super hero that our world needs and that one person can make a difference. This book should be in every class room but, until it is, it should be on every child's bookshelf. Its message of empowering people to care for our planet is so important these days and this book manages to make the point while also being fun and endearing. I look forward to the next set of adventures!

Captain Green offers an introduction to conservation in a way that’s approachable and easy to understand for young readers. The message of recycling, reducing, and reusing discarded plastics permeates the text for a story that is meaningful and empowering for children and their parents. Full of teachable moments, and featuring an endearing super hero, this book inspires readers to be super heroes in their own right! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and think it would be an excellent addition to any home library.

I love how this book puts this forward: that it doesn't take much to take care of Earth. It's easy for children to understand when they see 1) the problem 2) how to solve it. So clever to use animals as an example of the effect of plastic pollution because children empathise better than adults. This book also has follow up activities available on the author's website. We love it!

This one revolves around a subject close to my heart - reducing plastic pollution and inspiring little hands to join together to make big change.

Captain Green and the Plastic Scene features new superhero grad, Captain Green. His first mission? Saving sea creatures from plastic. With a lovable character and fun wordplay, this book shows children the importance of the three Rs - reduce, reuse, recycle, and how even a superhero can't fix this growing problem alone.
