I do think I would have enjoyed it more if it was actual novella length, it’s like 240ish pages and I think it could have been shortened for sure.
Basically this is a witch plus demon pairing. Willow adopts a cat and finds out Damien is trapped inside the cat because of a curse, so they work together and fall in love in the process too. It’s instalove and fated mates, the characters felt younger than I think they’re supposed to be. I have read Jen DeLuca in the past and was excited to see she was writing a paranormal-ish romance! This one was slow burn and I really enjoyed the small town, Florida coast setting, and the little ghost-mystery too!
Basically she’s moves to a small Florida coastal town and is wanting to fix up a cottage. He owns a local coffee shop and they go from strangers to friends. Both have ghostly visitors and have to work together to try and uncover some history. The romance does move slowly but I was invested enough in the mystery elements of the story that I didn’t mind. The audiobook in particular was a lot of fun and had me pulled in from the start! Very glad I gave this one a go! The cutesy small town, grumpy coffee shop owner, haunted house, and ghost tours! I definitely see why people compare it to similar vibes as Ashley Poston romances.

She can earn feathers by helping out people on earth and when she finds out that if she helps Jarod, a 25 year old leader of the Parisian mafia, do one act of kindness she can earn 100 feathers…well she is all in! So off she goes to Paris to help this bad boy find his way and try to persuade him to make good choices. She just doesn’t account for falling for him along the way.
This book felt way longer than it needed to be. It did drag in parts because it just felt like the story wasn’t moving forward for the plot or characters. I like a story centered around a main character finding out secrets about their life and basically everything they’ve ever been told is kinda not what it seems. So this definitely has that going. I don’t read a whole ton of angel romances but found this one interesting! It is a Romeo and Juliet retelling (with a bit of a twist) so take that for what it is lol I will say the characters felt young at times, this is new adult but sometimes it read younger than that. I also wasn’t a fan of the women hating women type of nonsense we have going on. This whole series is on hoopla and libby, so there is that!...more

I saw this whole series was available in KUFeral Sins is the first book in the Phoenix Pack series and this was my first time reading Suzanne Wright. I saw this whole series was available in KU with the read and listen feature so I decided to jump in to this paranormal, wolf shifters series.
This was just a fun time, slightly longer than I think the read needed to be, but also a lot steamier than I expected too. The story kicks off with Taryn waking up realizing she’s been drugged and abducted and meets Trey and his pack. He has this wild idea for them to pretend to be mates and for Taryn to move in with his pack. Trey is alpha of the Phoenix pack, a pack he started after taking on and dueling his father when he was just 14. He’s looking for valuable political allies and it’ll help her get out of an arranged mates situation being forced upon her. But things get complicated because of course pretending to be mates confuses their wolf shifter forms who want to complete the mate bond.
I thought there were some interesting things happening in this story, they both lost their mates in the past, she’s a healer, they’re both alphas. But on the other hand, the plot wasn’t super interesting all the time, this book was written in the 2010s and it feels like that for sure, Taryn is constantly full of snarky quippy moments, and the length of the book was definitely felt. If you want a paranormal wolf shifters romance that’s real steamy (like all the time, too often for me personally), then this is definitely that book. I still might check out the rest of the series sometime just because they are all available with KU read and listen, but it’s not a priority if that makes sense....more

“Just getting to be in your orbit makes my life better. Seeing the color you paint our world with. How you care for everyone. How you’ve healed all my brothers. Made them whole again. How could I not fall in love with you?”
This series needs to be read in order, the first 2 books end on cliffhangers that lead into the next book. So this 3rd book picks up directly after the accident at the end of book 2 and we jump right back into this fast-paced world! From the bond, Hayden learning about her family history, dragon shifts, friendships, dragon scales, broody heroes, a heat…so much to keep your attention in this book! I love how each hero in this series brings something different to the story and has their own backstory to work through. We see Hayden attending college and meeting Knox and his friends who are more like family. The minute Knox meets Hayden he knows she is something more and that she doesn’t even realize what she is herself. We see Hayden then meet Easton, Maddox, Cáel, and Cillian.
I loved how all the guys want to immediately take care of her and protect her. Know immediately feels she’s their mate, but they have to approach it carefully because she doesn’t even know about the world of dragon shifters. All the caretaking and trying to feed her, bringing her coats to keep warm, the need to have her close and safe was so sweet. I loved all of the heroes and how different they are! Sometimes other why choose books in the past make it hard to distinguish between all the characters, but that wasn’t the case here! All the heroes are broody in their own way and I liked her nickname of “Little Flame”. We have golden retriever vibes, “Mr. Grumpy Cat”, broken boy, a billionaire club owner, a professor (bit forbidden since she’s a student at the university).
This was just so much fun and with the cliffhanger of the first book I’m so excited to get to the rest of the series! Definitely my new fav read from Tessa Hale! I received an audio ALC and definitely recommend the narration! All thoughts in this review are my own. Twilight of Embers is out January 19, 2024!...more

This one is probably This is the fourth book in the Five Packs series and I’ve been loving this wolf shifter, rejected mate series from Cate C Wells. In here we follow Flora and Alec. They’ve actually been sorta secretly hooking up for years and Flora definitely feels used and kept as a secret. But she’d also love for him to be her mate. She’s also curvy and her body and shape seems to be seen as less-than in their pack and community so she gets a lot of hate and is made fun of from the rest of the pack. She does end up going into her first heat when her and Alec realize they are actually mates and they end up taking off together.
This one just has some surprisingly sweet moments that were sprinkled into the story. I liked seeing Flora find her strength and confidence along the way. This one definitely deals with a lot of angsty moments, the whole series kinda has these heartbreaking moments throughout. But it does definitely make the HEA that much more satisfying at the end.

The Stone and the Star is a monster, gargoyle romance novella and omg it was so much fun, so steamy, and so sweet! It was previously published in an anthology but is now on KU on its own with I believe some extra bits added. This author has been hit and miss for me in the past (loved Blood Moon, Titan was a miss), but I’m so glad I read this one cause it was a hit!
Colossus is a gargoyle, legit a gargoyle on a college campus building’s bell tower. And he loves to watch Astra, a pottery artist student at the school. He’s just biding his time to make himself known to her, when one night she’s almost attacked on campus late at night and he swoops in and rescues her! He takes her back to his bell tower where he gets her cozied up and makes sure she’s safe.
This bite size read honestly just hit the spot and brought everything I wanted from a gargoyle romance! It was spicy, but also so sweet and I loved that these two found one another. The fact that he’s been waiting for her for decades and has customized his bell tower to include things for her: the pottery wheel and cozy blankets, etc. The ending was extra sweet and I’d totally revisit this couple again if something more was ever written for them!...more

I know this was the author’s debut, so I’d be curious to try again if they wrote more books in the future with this world.
This was recommended to me because it is a werewolf/shifter romance between two people who had both had mates in the past (and lost them in different ways) and now find themselves mates to one another. The hero is also a single father to his daughter. I did like how they meet in this: Grace is the head warrior of her pack and Ryne is an alpha who shows up from a different pack, they realize quickly they are mates but she’s confused since she was already mated and lost him. She ends up leaving to go with Ryne to his pack and to meet his daughter.
From there is when the story started to lose my interest. There were parts of the story I felt like needed more info from and some parts kind of dragged or felt out of place for the story. The relationship didn’t really have a lot of buildup and we don’t see them fall for one another, first they keep their distance and then she kind of suddenly changes her mind and is open to more and they’re instantly a family from there. There is steam in here but it just didn’t work for me since I was invested in the characters or plot. ...more
