This audiobook is narrated by Roveena Gnanabakthan. Roveena did a great job. She used different voices and accents to bring these stories to life. I would recommend that readers consume this on audiobook. The narration really adds to the experience of the stories.
This follows the theme of the children of immigrants to Canada. Some stories covered days while some stories covered decades. Most of the stories dealt with and focused on family relationships and dynamics. Some stories were simple domestic dramas, some were coming-of-age focused, and some employed magical realism. It was a mixed bag focused on familial and cultural expectations pressed against the cultural norms of Canadian and the larger Western worlds' expectations. My favorite of the short stories was Backstage Passes, a tale of 2 sisters that followed them both for decades.
Oerall, I found the stories touching, engaging, and relatable. My maternal grandmother was an immigrant with my mother and her siblings, the first generation born in the US.

Ghoul Friends Online Blog by TJBW I assume sets up the scary stories as films made by Black horror director extraordinaire, Jakobi Warren. He founded a movie production company before he disappeared. Supposedly left behind were 13 films labeled 'The White Guy Dies First'. Each of the 13 short stories in the collection relate to the missing films. The set up is clever and the pay off is wonderful!

Hell is Other Demons by Karen Strong Brett invites his girlfriend Ivy to a demon summoning he is planning. Ivy attends with her friend Evelyn who is skeptical.
The Road to Hell by Terry J. Benton-Walker This story is told by a haunted house that was built during the early days of colonization of North America. This house has survived trauma while seeking a forever family. Definitely my 2nd favorite story in this collection. This would be a fantastic film.
I truly enjoyed this anthology. This has excellent representation for POC and includes Indigenous mythology from multiple continents and stories with gay/lesbian and Trans main characters. Perfect for teenagers.

The narrators Allyson Johnson and Diontae Black are both familiar to me. I listened to at least one novel narrated by both narrators prior to this. For this novel both narrators assumed unique tones, employing inflection and even accent changes as needed for the short stories in this anthology. The narration reminded me of stories shared before bed, around a campfire or shared at a sleepover, just nostalgic in the best ways. I'll continue to seek out audiobooks narrated by both Ms. Johnson and Mr. Black in the future.
I love anthologies precisely for the opportunity to meet new authors that I can add to my ever growing to-be-read list. That this is an anthology of speculative fiction written by people of color authors is just chef's kiss!
