But this was good, the beginning, as always with these books is a little slow/it’s a lot of names to remember but once you get to the whale attack (reading this, idk why people are so surprised orcas are attacking mega yachts, apparently this is a thing sea folk have been figuring out for sometime) it’s a car wreck you can’t look away from.
I’ve now realized I have a pretty morbid fascination with cannibalism and survival situations (no, I haven’t talked to a therapist about it, why do you ask), so the really f’ed up details of the cannibalism and the crews suffering was very up my alley, but I could see it being very graphic and a deterrent to others.
I got to go to Salem last year, and besides NYC + D.C. that’s the most east coast I’ve been, so Nantucket is on my New England bucket list (along with Sleepy Hollow).

I really wish someone would’ve thought “huh, maybe we should interview the female survivors” so we can hear their perspectives after surviving this absolute nightmare. But alas, that’s the pain with historical events, women are sidelined and not paid attention to. ...more

2022 first read: Gross and weird and put me in a bit of a reading slump. This is Ottessa being Ottessa, and for some reason I “liked” Lapvona better than this, though Lapvona is arguably more gross and weird? This is my fourth book by her and the one I think I “get” the least.
