Amusement park horror is one of my absolute favorite horror subgenres - so when I heard that Full Tilt has been out for well over a decade and I still haven't read it, I immediately picked it up. While we follow young adult aged characters in this book, Shusterman did a fantastic job of incorporating psychological elements of trauma and fears into each chapter that tackled some very adult themes. The visualizations of some of these scenes going on in my brain were absolutely insane and I would love to see this twisty read adapted to the big screen, I'd be first in line to buy a ticket.
This was my first by Shusterman and definitely will not be my last! I am even more so looking forward to picking up Unwind and Scythe soon, which have been on my shelves for a while....more

Minka Kent’s writing style flows so easily and combined with her short chapters and sinister twists, I could give my time reading this no less than 5 stars. Not only was it a fast-paced read that I finished in two sittings, I was also highly entertained and found this story had it’s hooks in me deep.
Highly recommend if you enjoy “bitch I’m gonna steal your life” thrillers that require some suspension of disbelief, but with reveals that will itch the darkest parts of your twisty little brain....more

This was everything I needed in a sequel after absolutely loving The Butcher and The Wren. Similar to the first book I could not get enough of the alternating POVs between our medical examiner Wren and the viciously twisted serial killer she’s hunting down, and as dark as Jeremy’s mind was to be in - I devoured each of his chapters.
If you loved the Butcher and The Wren, I highly recommend preordering The Butcher’s Game for its release on September 17th!...more

I can't share too much about the plot without semi-spoiling so I'll say if you enjoy more satirical leaning horror that is quick moving and makes you really care about the main character, definitely pick this one up.

I absolutely love weird, creepy, trippy horror and this totally delivered on that front. This was one of those books that really make you stare into the void after finishing and most will either really love or really not.
While being relatively short I still finished it in one sitting because I couldn’t look away from the constant eerie encounters. While nothing necessarily “scary” happened, I was still creeped out for the entire thing.

I hadn't heard much about this one before jumping in and I am completely blown away that this is Megan Lally's debut. It was suspenseful, heart-wrenching, terrifying, and completely enthralling, and as soon as I had to pause the audiobook I was desperate to get back to it.
This was such a fantastic story and the narrators really brought everything to life, so I really recommend reading it this way if you're an audiobook person....more

This is one of those books that’s been making its rounds over on bookstagram and because of that falls into the “highly hyped” category. I try my best to ignore those kind of things and just go in basically blind and open minded, and boy am I glad I did with this one.
I’m a big fan of con-artist thrillers and this one has got to be near the top of the list for me. It was incredibly fast-paced, twisty and kept me on my toes. Much like others who’ve read this I was shocked by most of the twists and reveals, although I would have loved it just as much if I hadn’t been. I finished it in just a few sittings because I just HAD to see where it went.
If you’re hesitant to pick it up because of the hype but enjoy con-artist stories that keep you at the edge of your seat, I highly recommend going in blind and seeing for yourself. ...more
