Omg. I've been slacking so bad with these last two books- this and Fire and Blood. But LET. ME. TELL. YOU. My friend put the fire under my ass today lol. He sent me both green and black trailers for House of The Dragon and it's coming out much earlier than I anticipated! June 16!
I need to get on it asap!

3 Stars
After thinking on it a while last night and this morning, I think I'm going to set So Lauren woke up and was like lemme choose violence today.
3 Stars
After thinking on it a while last night and this morning, I think I'm going to settle on 3 stars.
In a nutshell, this was a disappointing installment. I felt that Roberts relied too heavily on the romantic relationship between Kai and Pae and didn't move the story along enough. That's not to say that 3 stars is a bad rating because it's not, I did love some aspects of the story.
But it felt inadequate. Look, I'm all for the relationship between these two but I felt like it came across a little surface level and lacking depth considering how book 1 ended. There has to be a wider range between these two. Take us through it, gut us. Leave us in limbo for a while.
The anger and resentment they felt towards each other felt like a joke. Not figuratively, literally- like hehe haha. Pae seemed emotionally flat when it came to Adena. A little less banter and 'ocean eye gazing' would have gone a long way here.
So Mac just dropped off the face of the earth for this book?
No sufficient mention of Adena? After the ending of Powerless and after Powerful? Pretty cold.
The ending was a let down for me considering it's an easy wrench to throw into the mix.
I'll come back and refine this review later - kinda just throwing some thoughts out this morning.

╰┈➤World War Two
Alina and Tomasz are childhood sweethearts. The night before he leaves for college, Tomasz proposes marriage. But when their village falls to the Nazis, Alina doesn’t know if Tomasz is alive or dead.
╰┈➤Present day
When Alice’s cherished grandmother is hospitalized, a hidden box of mementoes reveals a tattered photo of a young man, a tiny leather shoe and a letter. Her grandmother begs Alice to return to Poland to see what became of those she held dearest.
In Poland separated from her family, Alice begins to uncover the story her grandmother is so desperate to tell, and discovers a love that bloomed in the winter of 1942. As a painful family history comes to light, will the struggles of the past and present finally reach a heartbreaking resolution?
I initially picked this up because I was in the mood for something to both captivate and crush me, and let me tell you - this delivered. I was completely invested and immersed in this book from page one.
A beautiful, tragic, hopeful story.

╰┈➤˗ˏˋ It's just such a drastic change from book 1 because there is literally no romance really explored with the two main characters in the first book. Sure, there's tension and angst, and pining. But nothing significant until the end.
Then this one jumps right into them banging and proceeds to continue with them banging non stop because nothing else is going on.
There is a twist at the end - [image]
I have book 3 already downloaded so I'm going to keep going just to see what happens, hopefully it's better than this one.
Books like this are why I'm skeptical of 'Romantasy' - I actually love fantasy and don't need non stop smut. Chill. [image]
