I may or may not be reading this on the side of all of my other current reads. Goodreads unofficial- maybe?

I am so excited that the fourth and final book in this series will be out fall of this year! The wait won't be as excruciating as it was for book 3. Thank God!!! Because that cliffhanger!
Okay, this book took me forever to finish which is typically unheard of for me. I really enjoyed These Hollow Big sigh. Deep breath. Cracks knuckles.
Okay, this book took me forever to finish which is typically unheard of for me. I really enjoyed These Hollow Vows and These Twisted Bonds last year so I thought I would really enjoy this one. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.
There's so many tropes in this book that I adore, but Ryan failed to utilize them properly and the story was a big flop.
╰┈➤ First, and speaking as a reader who not that long ago read the duology that this is spinning off from - there wasn't much information given about the human realm, the rulers, who these humans are and why they have magic.
I felt a little thrown into the thick of it, I can't even imagine how someone who hasn't read the first two would feel. Totally lost I would imagine.
The story has the bones to be something great but I feel the author squandered opportunities away on boring and insignificant conversations - so many pages just snail-paced along and for what?
There was a lottttt of repetition. Over and over again we're told certain things - I got the memo - moving along please?
I literally started skimming around the 40% mark, then skipped from 60% to 80% then sped read to the end. I felt like a prisoner in this story and I just wanted to escape it.
╰┈➤ These so called big revelations at the end? I honestly thought it was common knowledge not an actual plot twist? So add predictable to boring, slow and repetitive.
Jas is one of the most bland FMC's I've read in a good long while. Whiny and meek. Non stop complaining.
Felicity was not much better, however I did appreciate her more- but having the story split between her and Jasalyn did nothing for either character.
Felicity's storyline is more intriguing but got cut off and was underdeveloped due to half of the book belonging to slog-fest rock personality that is Jas.
Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll continue this series.

I was just as hooked i These are freaking addictive. And oddly enough, a comfort type of read? Lmao. Even though there’s a serial killer on the loose.
I was just as hooked into the story as we continue in book two as I was in book one. Which is pretty uncommon these days. I find myself falling victim to second book syndrome more and more these days. Maybe that's a good reason to go digging in the depths of the tbr from time to time?
Anyway, we pick up right where we left off in book one but this time from Millie's POV. She's a psychic and a hedge witch who is now the focal point of a serial killer. Danger is quite literally lurking behind every shadow and darkened corner.
Our MMC ✨ LUCIEN ✨ is a warlock who has lived multiple lives that are intertwined with Millie. These two are couple goals! I'm talking about non toxic, full green flags flying, support you no matter what, let's *communicate* and never keep secrets from each other - our magic is stronger when we're together type of relationship.
Again, not a perfect book - the dialogue comes across a little campy sometimes? That might not even be it, trying to put my finger on it. The sisters definitely come across a little quirky and small townish from time to time, it's not a bad thing at all. It just makes for a not as fleshed out character.
I think the thing to keep in mind though, is that these books are on average 300 pages. They're fun, fast paced, a little chilling, the sisters despite what they're going through are good natured and light hearted. They have a good amount of humor, good times, fierce loyalty and love.
The romance in this one - ugh. I loved it so much. Lucien is so tender and sweet with Millie. The way he magics away her pain when a headache starts to come on and takes it on himself. The way he heals all her little scrapes and cuts. ...more

This book is so formulaic that it made me cringe. Poor little human girl finds herself trapped in the Fae lands. She must compete in a trial in order to be set free.

I've had many issues with this series after book 1 and I had high hopes that book 3 would rectify some of them, but unfortunately for me it still just didn't work.
The positive note that I have is - the last 20% of this book was a great showcase of Thea - but I feel like it was too little too late.
I think the root of my issues all began in book 1- there's a lot of tension and build up to the FMC (Thea) and the MMC's (Wilder) relationship. In book 1 after all of the tension and tip toeing around there's an impulsive sudden sexual encounter, literally in the last 15-20ish%.
From there we jump into book two. I feel like the author never dives into the emotional connection between these two. Vows & Ruin is literally these two banging it out non stop, but I was personally left feeling lost as to why they feel this undying love for each other?
Because you just said so? Because the author told me so?
A huge part of why I love to read is the feeling I get, the emotions I experience. I can't get there if you just simply shove the two main characters bodies together and say 'they love each other so they fuck.' LOL. Wild.
Book 3 takes place a year after book two ends and I thought it was going rather well until it wasn't. Scheuerer managed to find a way to shove in more spice even while the two were separated.
Listen, I know I sound like I'm really just harping on the spice - and I LOVE SPICE. But not when there is SUPPOSED to be emotions there and I can't pick up on a single one of them. This is the author TELLING me but NOT SHOWING me.
Not only that, but this relationship gave me severe whiplash in this installment- more than I've experienced with them in the previous books.
There is too much that doesn't add up here with the story as a whole- I will just say that to avoid spoilers. Plot holes, let's just say plot holes.
Also, generally speaking - I feel like the story is getting dragged out at this point. I've lost interest, there is simply not enough lor, magic or battles going to for me to give a damn anymore.
Helen, this isn't Game of Thrones, there is not enough substance here to have pulled out 4 books. My interest in this story has actually declined with each page.
Highly doubt I'll read the last book - I already feel I can predict what will happen and I just don't care.

This book goes on the shelf of books that own me, not me owning it. I'm screaming and dying inside because book two is nowhere in sight at the moment and I'm going to want to claw the walls down until there's a glimmer in sight, until I see her working on it, until there's a coverless edition on Goodreads.
╰┈➤ Abigail Ehrhardt- you have taken my breath away!
Alright besties, for those that know me well enough - or see my updates and reviews in their feed often enough. You know I'm picky AF. Just in general with books. But with fantasy, I mean, I'm super picky. This story enveloped and consumed me from the inside out. I'm honestly sitting here looking at my dog, like she doesn't even know what I just went through! Whew.
✨ Kingdom of Masks and Mourning is devastatingly beautiful story about grief, loss, and the epic power of a found family. ✨
Analia, our FMC, princess and heir to the Ash Kingdom finds herself tasked with discovering the truth of her uncle's sudden and untimely death. An uncle who is more like a father to her in a kingdom where she has not been treated too kindly.
Joining a marriage treaty with the neighboring Kingdom of Sun in order to gain access to the answers she needs to put the puzzle of her uncle's death together. A timid and deemed unworthy heir from her own Kingdom, Analia finds herself surrounded by Royals that she doesn't know and not sure who she can trust.
With the help from her new found friends - Aaron a guard who is tasked with her protection and Dimitri, a servant, bastard son of the Sun King. They start to piece together the mystery.
Besties - I really can't give too much away about the plot, but let me tell you. I was scrolling through one of my book groups last week and someone had recommended this book . I read the synopsis, thought it sounded interesting and just took a leap. I'm so freaking glad I did!
From the first page, I knew this was going to be a banger! And Abigail did not disappoint!
╰┈➤ THIS BOOK IS PURE MAGIC! It's enchanting, mesmerizing, heart-pounding, exhilarating, sanguine, harrowing and addictive. Pure freaking magic!

˚₊ · »-♡→ I adore Analia - I wanted her to have this spine of steel almost immediately, I was enraged for her, hurt for her. I wanted her to root her enemies out and destroy them!
The magic system is so mf fantastic! I love love love it!
As far as the romance goes, don't expect too much of that in this first installment. No spice to offer in this one either, the author is going to torture us with an epically slow burn. But I'm telling you, I was bursting with anticipation...I'm still freaking bursting - it's so worth it.
I highly recommend for all my fantasy and romantasy besties... come join me on the dark side so we can scream in absolute wicked delight over how freaking fantastic this book is.

On paper, there's really nothing wrong with this book. Maybe, for me it lacked intrigue. My mind kept wandering off to all kinds of things - like things I need to pick up at the grocery store, what's on TV tonight, where on earth is the last place I stashed my birth certificate?

4 Stars!
'For those who feel small and quiet, spread those wings and roar.'
First, this is told in not just alternating POV's but also from a character in the past, told in 'diary excerpts' and we don't know who the character in the past is until the end. I will admit that I got a little confused going through the story and not knowing for sure who the character was even though I had my suspicions. About 70ish% of the story is told from the FMC POV - Raeve, though.
So for that, I would recommend tagging those chapters so that you can go back after finishing and have a whole ass ah ha moment when it's revealed who the character is. I actually plan on doing it myself on a reread.
╰┈➤ ✨ The worldbuilding is spectacular and intricate. ✨
Apart from that, we have a beautiful and unique magic system, kingdoms on the brick of war, a "trial battle" (love tournaments, competitions, trials, tests and such) a slow-burn romance AND dragons.
╰┈➤ Raeve is a moody, loner FMC who has clearly been traumatized. She is using her bloodlust and need for justice as an assassin for the rebel group Fíur du Ath. While she appears quite aggressive, cold and harsh, she would protect any child, women or person in need. To say I love her, is a major understatement. She is life.
╰┈➤ Kaan, on one hand, is teased as a horrible ruler who only brings death. Ultimately we learn that he is fierce, loyal, protective and would do anything for Raeve.
The romance is refreshing and authentic - not the typical 'touch her and die' 'fated mates' etc. This is not your typical run of the mill, cookie cutter romantasy. The slow burn is sizzling and the banter is top-notch.
There is so much that I can't say because I don't want to put a spoiler tag on the whole review but I will say that this is well worth taking a chance on and I'm one picky mf.

I was really intrigued by the world because in a way it's kinda similar to ACOTAR except in this book there's the fae lands, obv separate from the middle lands where humans and fae as well as other creatures live. And then I believe just a human land? I can't remember.
