Ok, so what can I say about this series (I went up to book 4, so writing this review as an overall sort of thing).
It's confusing at times, and annoying at others. There are moments when the MCs are idiots and I wanna kick them. Also, there are parts of the plot that make absolutely no sense and are lacking a logical flow of things.
BUT!
For some reason, it was a fun read. Yes, I skimmed some stuff, and it was difficult for me to get into the writing style of the author, but after that happened, and as soon as I started ignoring the annoying parts, I started liking it. [image]
It's fast-paced and the characters are fun (at times).
It's a series that I'll forget about soon enough, nothing too memorable about it, and not interesting enough to recommend, but it's a very nice pizza type of read (you 'eat' it, you enjoy it, you forget you ate it next week and won't really know where you bought it from)....more

What a great surprise it was to actually find a new author and a new series with a totally new plot and a lot of potential. Yay, I love such surprises!
It's a fast-paced, UF/Fantasy type of series (I'm writing the review after having finished it), with a surprisingly fresh plot. The characters are fun and I really liked their development and growth, so that's another plus.

So, the book was ok, fast, fun read. A typical 3-star book. Fun characters, absolutely love the kid and the MC is pretty ok. The plot was nice and all that.
What I loved though is the ending: they end with a meeting with 3 badass hunters, and a 4th person informing them that hey, there are a lot of magical kids who are orphans or on the street and who would really profit from a school of magical kids. AND THEY AGREE!
Sooo, I am really excited about the next book(s) in this series! Like, 3 hunters becoming teachers for the lost and lonely kids out there?! Well, that it exactly right up my alley! I empathize a lot with lost kids, and I love love LOVE the idea of them getting a chance!
So yes, because of this ending and this plot twist, the book deserves 4 stars.

This series didn't disappoint. Yes, it wasn't a 5-star read (not really even a 4 star), but I always enjoy the characters and the fun they bring with them.
The plot is interesting and makes me curious for more. The writing is amazing. The world builder is good (although Buroker can do better).
This author writes well, I like her style. It's kept me engaged and curious and, although it's a pizza-type of bPretty nice start of a series.

At the beginning of the series, I dubbed these books as my 'guilty little pleasure'. Alas, the love bubble popped and I'm starting to slowly get annoyed by the lack of character complexity, the lack of plot, the no world-builder polity, and the MC & co slowly becoming stupider and stupider.
Still, I'm curious to see what will happen next. The books are short enough to be read fast (especially if you skip particular parts where everything just repeats itself).
Oh, another thing that's beginning to be annoying: the repetition!
But still, I'm not ready to leave these characters behind yet. And I'm still curious about the war they keep talking about and the world. Who knows, maybe in book 100, we'll actually get more info about what's happening, right? ...more
