I loved each character individually... but there wasn't enough prep or build-up for it to feel authentic between Rafe and Sloan.
The girls (Avery and Addison) are hilarious! They + Xeni have the best banter! Tehehe!
There were a few age references that made no sense like Sloan saying "I don't know how you young people do dating nowadays" when she in fact is 28 and Rafe is 34.
I think Sloan's brilliance was also glazed over too quickly.
But alas, if you are looking for a semi-steamy quick romance - this was entertaining. ...more

Wow, how that hit home. I can't tell you how much I appreciated Deanna taking the time to clearly express both Noah's and Sage's family dynamics. And, AND, ANNNNNDDD the tough conversations! To have all those necessary conversations/confrontations within the two covers of this book moved my soul. There were SO many words I needed to hear. That frankly I need to speak.
Thank you. That was so deeply personal for me to witness.

As for their relationship - it seemed a bit rushed. It went from stark enemies to sexy obsession too quickly for me. I would have loved more "swoony" tension....more

in all seriousness tho, if you're going into this book, remember that: A. it's new adult - we aren't reading chaucer here, so don't expect that B. the word nefarious is very overused within the first 50 pages (but then you never see it again) C. heed the content warnings should you need to D. this book is dripping in mafia-related tropes - get over it E. real-life stalkers are bad. fictional ones are hot. i don't make the rules.
Pros: if you like: - hot single-dad (42) + hot single-mom romance (35) - city cowboys - seasonal (Christmas) magic romance - HEAsUMMM. Well, let's see:

Cons: not my cup of tea, because I'm not a fan of: - overt "macho, I will protect you" trope - continuous "you were destined for me" trope - continuous "I know everything, just you wait and see" man trope - rushed smut - elf on the shelf (LOL)
So, in short, it was entertaining but nothing to write home about. That's all!...more

Poppy, the FMC, is a fifty-year-old woman and mother to Robyn. Life hasn’t been too kind to Poppy as of late and she’s found herself taking an impromptu job in California, leading to a lot of personal revelations.

I honestly really enjoyed how tempered this book was. The plot wasn’t revolutionary, but it was poignant. Poppy is extremely likable. Kevin is my favorite character. Emily grows on you. And Allen is heart eyes! OH… And the ending was really “swell”.
OKAYYYYY! This is a book I snagged on stuff your kindle day and I ain’t mad!!! This was a very fun and entertaining suspense romance.

The plot had me hooked: mega wealthy family basically get caught doing the same thing the Madoffs did. Everything goes to shit. The daughter goes into hiding to get away from the ruin of her family name. She starts a new life and finds love, but will her past ruin her future?!
Compelling, right?!?
For the most part, the story had me invested! But… I wishhhhh there was more plot/suspense at the beginning about the Ponzi scheme and the destruction it caused. Andddd I wish we got more clues during the “self-imposed investigation” that Charlie started. It became such a big part at the end of the book and just seemed rushed.

But then the PLOT TWIST. The freaking plot twist happened and it changed EVERYTHING. The entire dynamic of the book shifted!! And not for the better!! Gawddddd, it felt so forced! I was immediately disinterested. Nope. That was wholeheartedly unnecessary.

So basically I skim-read the last 30%. I am grumpy. And disappointed. And who approved this?! ...more
Sexy and seducing, but there was NO PLOT. Outside of the spicy scenes, the book was:

MMC: "No. Now go parent my kids."
Like, I thought I would at least learn a tinyyyyyy bit about the mafia. NOPE.
