But what does it mean from the statistical point of view and why it happened? Does it mean that people in the past didn't live long or is it since children and young people are dying less?
What are the most significant innovations in history: the travel to other planets or the canalisation building, milk pasteurisation, vaccination, car seat belts or other important changes in our lives?
It is a very informative book recommended to everyone who wants to know the history of humanity and how it is made....more

These days there are a lot of promoted diets around us that affirm that this diet is the best. In the book is explained that a diet can be good for one thing and bad for another. Especially if you have a chronic disease.
Also was in length discussed the influence of cholesterol on our health. And the level of it is not as important as was promoted in 1980's. We were told that a high level of cholesterol increases the risk of atherosclerosis and death from heart disease. In reality, the level of cholesterol is critical only for people whose blood vessels are less than 50% wide in comparison to their size.
We were told that we should eat less animal fat and more vegetable oils, but that is not completely right. We should increase omega-3 fats and decrease omega-6 ones. Some vegetable oils are prone to oxidation in our bodies and, as mentioned in the book, oxidation is like a flu, if it starts, it grows very fast. A lot of oils in supermarkets contain dangerous substances to prolong the shelf life.
We should use such oils as olive and sunflower ones for salads and others for frying.
The best way to eat is low-carbohydrate, high-fat and high-protein diets. And eat more fruits that contain antioxidants.
Not all food supplements are digested as well as natural products.
The book also discusses at length some widely used drugs such as statins, anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin and the way they work in our body.
In the book, there is good reference information about the history of research in this area of science.
If you have enough patience and want to understand how our bodies work and are not afraid to read a bit of biochemistry, I recommend that book as it is going to help you in making decisions about your health....more

Intermittent faFasting for days is interesting: no special diet, get health benefits and save money and time for cooking. But it didn't appeal to me. Intermittent fasting sounds better, but sometimes it interferes with the social life.
Of course, this book isn't only about fasting. It has a lot of interesting information about food and different diseases that can be cured by eating specific food.
I cannot say that the book is completely innovative, but as an additional source of information, it is satisfactory. ...more
Everyone around speaks about the Mediterian diet benefits. But what is so different about it? Of course, the consumption of olive oil. I was surprisedEveryone around speaks about the Mediterian diet benefits. But what is so different about it? Of course, the consumption of olive oil. I was surprised to learn from the book how much olive oil is consumed by Italians and Greeks. It is nearly 1 litre of oil per week.
But if you think to go now to the supermarket and buy urgently a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, be aware that on the shelves most of the olive oils are counterfeited mixes of seeds oils and chemical products for flavour and colour.
True extra virgin olive oil is an expensive product that has a bitter taste and when taken pure makes you cough. It doesn't need to be filtrated or raffinate.
If you are interested in your health improvement and are going to use olive oil for this, I recommend you to read this book and find out about the history and geography of olive oil production and what is the difference between these oils....more

There is a lot of knowledge about theoretical biology, thermodynamics, physics, and mathematics.
But nevertheless, It was interesting to learn about the human body as a thermodynamic system and the way it is working and interacting with the world around us.
I think that book is more oriented toward medical specialists' attention. I was more interested in such health problems as high blood pressure and gallstones. And it was amazing to find that they have the same cause at their roots.
Alexander Shishonin is widely propagating his theories and the ways to solve health problems in a practical way.
If you want to read this book, ensure that you are ready to go first through some science only to find that it can explain a lot about ourselves. ...more

Different people can feel different flavours of the same food. We even feel ourselves different flavours of the same food, depending on what we have with it or in what environment we try it. Everything can influence the food flavour: its colour, the way it was served, where it was grown, and where it was stored.
Was interesting to read about complementing pairs of food. and the IBM computer that develops new recipes.
In general, it is a book that will change your perception of food and enrich your life....more
