I think I went into this book with a completely different idea than what it was. I was looking forward to a short story but I was thinking it was going to be more on the thriller side. I personally don't really like when things get super political so that was something I didn't enjoy. Normally this plot would be something that I would dive right into but this one just wasn't my cup of tea unfortunately.

I did not read the first book in this series and decided to give it a go after seeing some reviews saying it was okay as a standalone novel. I think it would have been more interesting to have the backstory on Leah's missing incident but it sounds like from the reviews that you don't have an answer even if you read the first book (but I could be mistaken since I haven't read it myself). The story did seem to drag on a bit and there were elements that you could see coming but overall I still enjoyed it and recommend it as a standalone. I don't think, however, that I would go back and read the first one. I think overall I would have liked some more answers and some more details about all the stories going on. Some felt connected and unanswered, and some felt disconnected and pointless to the storyline. Again, I still enjoyed reading this and appreciate the copy!...more

I haven't been this sucked into a book in a long time. I read this book in less than 2 days and I couldn't put it down. The storyline, the characters, the twists were all articulated perfectly and I will highly recommend this book to others before/when it comes out. I can't wait to follow Megan Davidhizar and other books she writes in the future as well. 10/10!...more

I will start out with saying I have NEVER EVER read a romance novel so this is my first. Let me just say it completely exceeded my expectations and I absolutely loved it. Although I am not a big watcher of Hallmark Christmas movies, this one made me want to turn a bunch on and have a marathon. It was the perfect snowy, cold day short story and I couldn't put it down. I will be checking out other things from Mia Summers and adding her to my list of authors that I enjoy. I am so pleasantly surprised at this novel and I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot. It may have just opened me to a whole new genre!...more

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me :( I really wanted to get into it because of the reviews but I just couldn't. I normally love YA and was thrilled to get to read this one once I saw all of the great reviews it is getting. However, once I was reading it seemed too YA for me. I still appreciate the copy given to me and give it two stars since I'm sure younger audiences would enjoy it more but the story/characters weren't for an older YA reader.

After getting through the I won this book in a giveaway and was intrigued to see what it was all about since I struggle with food and fitness myself. After getting through the first half of the book, I was extremely bored and found myself flipping through it. It has a focus on individuals with eating disorders and other issues that make it difficult for them. I was under the impression that this would be for every day individuals and not people with specific restrictions or struggles and thought that should be advertised at the beginning of the book or in the synopsis. I'm giving 2 stars because there are a few sections that I found beneficial and maybe I'll give it another read in the future when I'm in a different mindset than when I first got this....more

The description of this book really had me interested in it and wanting to read. It started off strong with a story that had me turning the pages but around 50% it really started to lose me. There were a lot of trigger warnings at the start of the book and it seemed to really just focus on those and not really develop a storyline in my opinion. It really lost me and completely disconnected from the synopsis that the book gives. I found myself skimming to see how the story would end and it still didn't leave me satisfied. I am bummed that it didn't turn out the way I expected and I would say be wary if you are sensitive to a lot of triggers. ...more

I had my hesitations because I don't normally read science fiction type storylines but wanted to give this one a try with the thriller style that was suggested as well.

I have never read true crime before - I am normally a documentary type of girl - so this book was the first of that style that I have read. It did not disappoint! The storyline is developed with the backstory of the crime, the suspects, and the families and goes on to talk about how the crime is solved and everything that happens in between and afterwards. I had never heard of this crime before I read the synopsis of this book and I am now going to find all the documentaries and episodes on this case that I can to see it physically instead of in my own brain. It is well written and keeps you wanting to know more about the case.
This book may have turned me to a new genre and I again thank Netgalley and the publisher for opening me up to that....more

It started off a little slow while the story developed but around the halfway mark it really picked up and had lots of twists that I didn't see coming. I always love when a mystery book has me stumped and the ending is a surprise and I couldn't figure it out! I'm looking forward to reading more of the author's books in the future and will recommend this one to others that love mystery/thrillers. Overall I really enjoyed this book and the characters. My only wish was that we dug into the background of other characters more and not had such a focus on the wife for most of the storyline.

It was one that really stood out to me based on the synopsis given but was surprised at the different type of storyline it was once it got going. I thought initially that it was going to be a mystery type of story but it ended up being a YA thriller but environmentally and not psychologically. Some of the arguments of the characters got repetitive but getting past that it was an interesting story and got me turning the pages trying to find out what was going to happen next. It was a quick read which I thought was nice and held my interest even though it was different than my initial thought. I really really wanted to like this one after seeing all of the reviews about how much people are liking it! I unfortunately DNF this one around the 20% mark. I don't know if it was the storyline being much deeper than I normally read and enjoy or if it were the characters but it seemed to be going so slow. I even tried to leave the book for a week or so and pick it back up to see if I was just in a reading funk and I still couldn't get into it. I was so excited when I got approved because I absolutely loved Missing Clarissa and couldn't wait to read the sequel.
This one was a little bit slower in my opinion and was a different feel than Missing Clarissa was so if you're a fan of the first book, definitely be aware that The Other Lola is different before you go in expecting the same style and type of story. I also thought we didn't dig much into the newer characters that we did previously and I missed that aspect of the "case" while I was reading. I did like however that it wasn't really a cold case that they were trying to solve, rather than helping out a friend about a story that hasn't really been talked about before. It gave it a different feel than other YA suspense/thriller novels I've read in the same category. Overall I still really enjoyed this book and hope Ripley writes more in Cam and Blair's future!...more
