Ah, Scarred by Emily McIntire! This book is like a royal drama wrapped in a forbidden romance package. So, if you’re diving into this one expecting a fantasy epic, you might be scratching your head because it’s not that type of story. It’s firmly set in the dark royal romance category, which is fine, but I’m wondering why it’s categorized as fantasy at all. ...more
Hooked by Emily McIntire is an absolute disaster of a book. If you're considering picking it up, save yourself the agony and skip it entirely. This soHooked by Emily McIntire is an absolute disaster of a book. If you're considering picking it up, save yourself the agony and skip it entirely. This so-called dark romance retelling of Peter Pan is a laughable mess from start to finish. The plot, which had some initial promise with Hook (James) seeking revenge on Peter Michaels and getting involved with Peter’s daughter, Wendy, quickly disintegrates into a cringe-worthy farce.
James, intended to be the brooding anti-hero, is nothing more than a poorly written cliché. Instead of being menacing, he’s an embarrassing attempt at a villain who ends up as a caricature of what he’s supposed to be. Wendy is equally disappointing—flat, uninteresting, and so uninspired that I struggled to remember her name. Their interactions are painful to read, and any chemistry is as non-existent as the book's coherence.
The steamy scenes, while initially promising, quickly turn stale due to repetitive and cringe-worthy dialogue. The constant use of the good girl trope is not just overdone—it’s tiresome and ruins what little excitement these scenes had. The so-called dark romance angle is a joke. James's trauma feels like it's straight out of a bad soap opera, completely failing to deliver any genuine depth or darkness.
As for the plot, it’s a trainwreck of epic proportions. Cheesy lines, unrealistic developments, and an ending so absurd it’s laughable. Instead of a dark, gripping narrative, we get a tangled mess of poorly executed ideas that are both frustrating and laughable. This book is a complete waste of time, and the only thing it’s good for is making you question why you ever considered reading it in the first place. Avoid at all costs—it's a one-star catastrophe that deserves to be in the trash. ...more

Diving into A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager was like being swept into a storm of court intrigue, sizzling romance, and magical tension! This book is a tantalizing mix of enemies-to-lovers and a dose of spy games wrapped in a beautifully dark fantasy world. It’s got it all: morally grey characters, close proximity, and a whole lot of angst!
