A true 'enemies to lovers' romance with a side of straight-up 'aliens made them do it' in a 'Hunger Games but with boinking' setting.
Durek and Karnin are enemies. Not 'he said something mean about me once so I hate him' enemies, but full on 'on opposing sides of a war for thirteen years and also holding personal vendettas against each other' enemies. He gouged her eye out; she chopped off his sword arm. You know, enemies.
At the end of the long war, as peace talks are starting, she's lost everything but her desire to kill him, and he's in a similar situation. She hunts him down/he lets her find him when suddenly! They are abducted together and put in a Hunger Games-type arena, with instructions to hunt each other down. Like, that's what they wanted to do in the first place, right?
But this is a perverted rapey Hunger Games, and the 'hosts' make increasingly bizarre demands eventually involving Durek's young daughter, and these enemies now have to form an extremely tense alliance. Oooh, that's the good stuff, stick it right into my veins!
The slowest of burns (natch) but ultimately believable romance ensues. ...more

TroperiSweet omegaverse about a girl who hires a hot pack of escorts to be her date at her sister's wedding--because her dickhead ex is the best man. Troperiffic rom-com setup but the part I thought was especially well done was Isolde slowly realizing how terrible her relationship with Beau had been. He did a number on her, starting with love-bombing and then boiled-frogging her with increasing emotional abuse until her self-esteem was in tatters.
Her pack of escorts instantly realizes she's their scent-matched mate, but in this OV, omegas don't know until their heat hits. The pack goes into super courting mode and does everything they can to woo Isolde and help her heal from Beau's abuse, part of which is helping her realize there was abuse in the first place. Cue tons of delicious spoiling and pampering.
I would have liked more on the guys' backstories. How did they end up with each other? Why did they decide to do the work they do? Etc. But overall a sweet and emotional omegaverse with some gentle kinky spiciness. ...more

The love story will be relatively low-conflict and mostly center on cultural and physical differences. Both leads will be practical and adult about the marriage and work towards making a success out of the venture. (But readers know if Kayog made the match, there's no way they're not soulmates.) So sure, they can get repetitive. But I know I'll get a nice reliable shot of cozy warm feels injected right into my veins.
This time we've got Maeve, an Enforcer (and friend/colleague of Kaida from I Married a Dragon) giving up the apps and going directly to Kayog. She's matched with Helios, an Edocit (a tree/plant man who's super hot and smells like a flower garden), who is a bounty hunter. Together, they fall in love and fight crime. Ebony was probably my favorite (love the 'pet psychopath' trope and a big strong guy who's willing to get on his knees for the right woman... rrowr). Rook rather surprisingly had the most character growth considering he was the privileged 'poor little rich boy' and kind of a douche in the first vol. I ended up loving him the most after Ebony.

This is the first volume where all the guys are supreme dicks and I will definitely pick up the second in hopes of a massive grovel. Drake and (surprisingly) Ebony won't have quite as much groveling to do as Love and Rook, but I'm gonna need some real words-and-actions grovel from all the guys.
Set in the same world as Havoc Killed Her Alpha, so all the extra fiddly details are there--alpha auras, three different kinds of bonds, rogues, mysterious institute that administers injections to keep alphas and omegas in line, etc. But the story is compelling--Vex is a 'gold pack' omega (like Havoc) who has been living as a beta, using contacts and scent/heat suppressants. She is 'dark bonded' (against her will) by an evil alpha and sent into the heroes pack to infiltrate and get leverage/revenge(? the ultimate motives for the bad guy are still unclear) against them. The dark bond means she is bound to the bad guy's will and must do anything he orders her to do, and can only be broken by her fated/scent matched mates. Guess what the heroes are? Too bad they're clueless dicks.
Oh, and this is one of the few books I've read where everyone has bonkers names, but the guys have explanations for that--they're actors, and they chose those bonkers names as stage names. Love's given name was Justin! I laughed out loud when I read that. Well played, author. Well played. ...more

Piper (Charlotte's alpha bff from the previous book) is unhappy in her surgical residency but feels like she can't switch to a speciality she'd prefer without feeling like a failure and disappointing her cold, distant father.
Alexi is planning to retire from hockey after the season and wants to find his pack. He's sure Piper is meant to be part of that, and now the team's goalie catches his eye. There's something about him...
Owen is the team's new goalie and he's hiding a big secret: he's no beta, but an omega determined to fight his designation and prove he can compete against his alpha brother, who is on another team. So even though he's drawn to the hot alpha doctor and his team's captain, he can't risk getting too close and having them discover his secret.
Most of the conflict is external and nobody fucks up as big as Charlotte's guys did in the last book. A sweet romance about a found family cohering. I wish Piper's dad had a little more comeuppance, but I'm petty like that. ...more

Filled with the sexy yankee candle scents of fate™, as so many omegaverse stories are. I wonder where that trope originated? I mean, it's all about 'my fated mate smells awesome', but how did that turn into 'my fated mate smells like candy and their jizz tastes like salted caramel (and not like salted snot)'?
ANYway, Petra smells like honey and cinnamon and that's enough to whammy her new pack, who just happen to be her upstairs neighbors and also hired by her politician dad to be her bodyguards due to some scary threats. Cue tons of pampering and a heat sex scene that spans multiple chapters.

I really liked the heroine and she's the reason I finished the book at all. But it felt like a jumble of plot elements that the author didn't quite know what to do with in the end, and the structure of the book with the constant flashbacks actively worked to slow the momentum of the story.
Kendrick as a character was a cypher, practically a nonentity, for all the terrible influence he had on Lee's life. We get no insight into why he was so awful from such a young age, aside from his father also being a living garbage fire. Nor do we get any indication that he knows what he did was wrong, or that he feels any kind of regret for it.
I got the feeling that Kendrick was supposed to end up redeemed and remated to Lee, but instead (view spoiler)[there's another guy introduced at the 70% mark who she almost instantly falls for and ends up with. It was jarring and out of nowhere. He should've been introduced much earlier so we could see him as a viable option instead of a thinly drawn consolation prize. (hide spoiler)]
But I did love Lee and her spine of steel. If this were the first in a series about her and her new not-a-pack group of rogues, I'd be adding them to my TBR pile. But I see the next two books are about Kendrick? Ugh....more

There aren't just alphas and omegas anIt's omegaverse, but like, extra fancy dressed up omegaverse, covered with gewgaws and ornate gingerbread trim. There aren't just alphas and omegas and mate bonds; there's "rogue" alphas that can go berserk and break the magical omegaverse laws and "gold pack" omegas whose eyes have turned gold because they haven't been trained(?) and "alpha auras" that can fade away without a proper bond and three types of mate bonds, all governed by some kind of omegaverse magic (though there's also a mysterious institute that administers injections and whatnot to control various undesirable traits).
Havoc is a "gold pack" omega who is introduced having just, uh, killed her alpha. She's sent home with said alpha's pack, who had no idea she existed. See, the dead alpha--Logan--was a sociopathic power hungry gaslighting control freak who hid her away for months and played cruel, torturous games with her, even though she's his pack's scent matched fated mate. He was good at hiding his abusive nature, and a master at the boiled frog method of fucking people over. Most of his pack thinks he was their pal, their ride-or-die, their brother in arms, and they are happy to assume Havoc murdered him in cold blood right after meeting him for the first time.
Slowly, through the use of flashbacks, we see how each character came under Logan's control and how with him now gone, without his constant reinforcing of his control, they start to realize he wasn't any kind of a good guy at all.
Compelling and emotionally intense story, with a lot of set dressing that can be distracting. ...more

So she takes a job at a ritzy space vampire blood bank. Then this super hot space vampire customer takes one sniff and gets the sexy scented fated mate whammy and now she has a whole new set of problems.
Kythal (Azur from the last book's twin brother) is all about capital-D Duty. He can't be fated mated to some random human, he's got to get arranged married to secure materials for weapons in the upcoming war that seems inevitable. It's a real pickle for everyone.
Millie is likable and I loved her globe-trotting (galaxy-trotting?) vagabond backstory as she grew up with her half-kylorr adoptive father as he traveled across the planets working as a fancy fine-dining chef to the space-elite.
Kythal is a little frustrating, since he seems determined to nobly sacrifice himself to appease his guilt and he does so in STOIC SILENCE never even telling his own twin brother who is fated mated to a human himself (as seen in the previous book). Guy needed a good smack upside the head for most of the book.
Lovely and sweet with some deep angst, some space vampire silliness, and intense emotions. I'm loving this series!...more

Set up to be an epic grovel that fell short of the mark. I did enjoy their POVs and the peek at their regret and suffering, but body betrayal syndrome in the form of her heat does the bulk of the work. Siiiigh.
