The Plot: This book was a wild ride and a half. This delivered everything and more that the first book was missing. I can confidently say this is one of my favorite romantic fantasy series I have read so far entirely. The way Penn Cole write this plot just draws you in from the very beginning. The world is absolutely beautiful. It truly does transport you to this world and once you're in it, you really don't want to leave. This is such a perfectly written slow-burn. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!!! Diem and Luther...my ride or die babies. It does not get better than them. The lengths he goes for her in this book just warmed my heart and made me giggle and squeal. This book truly was *chefs kiss*. I will say though, this series is very heavy. I definitely need a breather and a break after this long book before jumping into almost DOUBLE the size of the next book. This really reminds me of the likings of SJM books and the way her plots and characters are written out. There was little to no spice just a few comments here and there, but if you're a true slow-burn fan...boy do I have a recommendation for you. The ending of these books never cease to leave me on the edge of my seat. I always leave wanting more and more and more. I'm convinced there are drugs in this book because of how addicting this series is. 100/10 would recommend!!!
The Characters: It's so hard not to love everybody in this book (besides Henri if you like Henri we cannot be friends sorry I don't make the rules). To witness the progression of Diem's struggles and see her blossom into her new role in this book was just so magical to see. Her character development was SO. WELL. WRITTEN. She is a certified badass. Luther is my baby boy and I would do anything for that man. I loved seeing the roles of family and new found family blossom in this book as well. The friendships that were formed and even the enemies that were made just fit so well and everything just made sense. Everything had a purpose, and I LOVED that!!
Overall, I liked this better than the first book!! I think it included more politics and the magic system made more sense and the writing just overall was better. I will forever be recommended this series to everyone who can sit down and read a long book cause this entire series is a long and heavy one. The Plot: I absolutely DEVOURED this book and its plot. The entire thing was just written to perfection. I loved the politics and the world building. There was always something going on but it never felt crowded enough to the point where it got jumbled! There were twists and turns and everything in between and I just ate it up. Ate it all up. The politics played a major part in this book, as well as the magic system. I think it was written and explained so well!! The only thing I'd say would be that sometimes it got confusing with the amount of subplots and trying to keep up with them. This book has left me speechless. The ending of this book??? MY JAW WAS ON THE DAMN FLOOR. I was NOT expecting the ending and I just know I'm going to love the rest of this series. This first book set up such a good standard for the rest of the series that I hope keeps up!!
The Characters: Diem was one of the strongest FMC's I've read this year. I loved her. So. Much!!! SO MUCH!! She was so witty and sarcastic and has such a badass attitude. It's Diem's world and we're all just living in it. I really do not like Henri. I could not get into his affection and love for Diem from the very beginning I don't know why I just couldn't. As the book went on, my feelings were justified. Henri can kiss my ass. Now let's talk about Luther. Luther and Diem? I am ROOTING. If they don't end up together I'm gonna riot I loved them so much. Their personalities just fit so well together and the chemistry??? Off the charts. I was eating up their tension with a knife and a fork.
Overall, I can already tell this series is going to have a special place in my heart. I'm a little intimidated by the amount of pages in the next books but at this point I don't even care I will eat up every last bit of it. The Plot: Okay prepare for a rant review, because boy oh boy do I have a lot to say. First off, this book was like the off-brand version of My Dark Vanessa. I don't know why, but so many things, and I mean SO. MANY. THINGS. Were almost exactly like that book. It was like Freida took that plot and turned it into a thriller. QUITE LITERALLY. This book wanted to be My Dark Vanessa so fucking bad and it's NOT. That was my thought the entire time reading the book is it felt like a rip-off. Second, this book can barely be called a thriller. This is probably the LEAST thrilling thriller I have ever read. The entire 70% of the book was build-up. 70%!!! The first 70% could have been literary fiction (*cough cough My Dark Vanessa cough cough*). I'm sorry (not really) I cannot stress that point enough. The actual thriller part was SO incredibly lackluster. It was boring. It was so boring. The best thing I can say about this is that it's a fast read. The plot twist was fucking stupid. It was predictable. There was no point where I was on the edge of my seat. I never was left guessing or creating theories in my mind. There was little to no creativity here!!! Ugh it was FRUSTRATING!!!! I am so glad this was on kindle unlimited because I would NOT have purchased this as a physical copy.
The Characters: Long story short, everyone in this book is stupid and immature. Eve is beyond obsessed with shoes to the point that that's all she cares about...especially during the plot twist (IYKYK) and she was so incredibly plain. Nate was a p*dophile and he was gross, need I say any more? Addie was the most childish 16 year old I've ever read about in a book. I understand that people can be naive, but girly pop...come on. Nobody can be this stupid like she was in this book. I can't even bother to write anymore about these characters.
Overall, do not waste your time on this book. I wish I could take back the 8 hours I spent reading this because I could've used it reading something else. Normally I love Freida's books, but I cannot get past the points I made above. I think this is my least favorite of all of the books I've read by her. Highly disappointed.

The Characters: If you thought Veyka was a bad bitch before, just WAIT until you read this book. Her character development through this series has been unreal. To go from someone so selfish and only thought about herself and her wellbeing to protecting her realm and her friends and even humans, who she despises more than anything. It was insane!! When we are introduced to the fae prophecies, Veyka was so stubborn it was a little aggravating, but I could understand. Veyka and Arran are my everything I love them so much. Them being fated mates just made everything a million times better. Their bond is unmatched. I will say this with my whole chest...PARYS DESERVES JUSTICE!!! This book felt like being on a rollercoaster...literally. I truly did not like the beginning of the book at all. The language and grammar in this book takes a LOT of getting used to. It's very complex and most things make zero sense until about 50% of the way through the book. Veyka's character development through the book, however, was written and developed so incredibly well. She goes from being this self-loathing, selfish queen to truly caring about everyone and everything thanks to Arran. I LOVED the tension between Veyka and Arran. You could cut it with a knife the amount of times they wanted to be at each other's throats. However, the main "plot" in the book up until the halfway point were Veyka's tits. IT WAS LITERALLY ALL THEY TALKED ABOUT. It drove me insane like yes I understand she has big boobs can we move on? ...more

Words cannot even describe the undying love I have for this book...much like the undying love Ares and Raven have. I knew from the very beginning that this book was going to alter my brain chemistry and now that I finished? That is the biggest understatement I have ever thought. This book brought me on the biggest emotional rollercoaster that I know I won't recover from.
The love that Raven and Ares have is one of those in the movies. It's the kind of love that we can only dream about until it happens to us. It was poetic in the most complex ways. The devotion? The love proclamations? This is the kind of love that you picture your perfect person would have. The chemistry and love between Raven and Ares...God I can't think of anything better.
A huge reason I am putting this book up so high on a pedestal is because the main point of the book was proper, blunt, and straightforward communication. I hate miscommunication more than anything else so this was the biggest breath of fresh air. I knew just by reading the tropes and synopsis that I was going to love this book; I just didn't know I was going to love it as much as I actually do.
The spice in this book, while being a bit over the top at points, was some seriously good spice. The main plot of this book is romance. It's not a deep plot so it's best to go in knowing that romance and spice are literally the plot. Normally plots like this aren't for me, but this was a HUGE exception. It was done so well and I know I will never forget what I read.
This book goes down in my reading history as being one of my favorite books of all time. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series, as I have already fallen in love with the other characters the other books are about.
I, myself, dream to have this love one day. And until then? I keep reading perfect books like this that show me to never settle for less. ❤️

This was gripping, thrilling, and anxiety inducing and and that's everything I like in a thriller. I like that in books like these, you go to pick it up and the next thing you know you're almost done because it just flows so fast. The pacing was perfect and I loved the twists and turns that came in this book. I audibly gasped several times and the twists took my by surprise.
I struggle sometimes with thriller books because I find a lot of the main characters annoying. However, in this one, I actually liked the characters. They didn't have any depth by any means, but that's okay cause they didn't really need to be deep. The plot itself was so fun and the characters played into that very well.
Overall, this is a very fast-paced thriller! I was able to finish it in just over 24 hours and I had an amazing time reading it. I don't know if I am going to read any more of Freida's new books, but I can definitely say that this one was a good one.
