This book has potential, and I can see the vision, but I found the storyline very confusing at times. I felt a disconnect from the flow of the story, and that took away from my enjoyment. I believe this story could be great, and it did draw me in enough that I would like to read the next book to see where it goes. I just hope the story runs a bit smoother in the next book....more

This story is based around Ella and Jake, 2 people from a small gossiping town where they were constantly judged on their parents' lifestyles.
They run into each other years down the line when she's the head of a school on the brink of closure, and he is a retired NFL star. Working together to try and save the school leads to more than expected.
It was a nice, easy read, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a smaller story to read....more

It revolves around the Grimm sisters Ophelia and Genivive, although mostly Ophelia. In New Orelans, where there are all sorts lingering in the darkness of the witching hour, we meet Necromancers, devils, and phantoms. Ophelia enters Phantasma to find her sister and has to navigate through 9 trials based around the circles of he'll with secrets, twists, and puzzles along the way. I'm not going to lie, I struggled at first to get into this story a little bit at first and sometimes had to read parts more than once to fully take all the information in. However, once the trials started and the pace started to ramp up, I was pulled in and couldn't put it down. I had an inkling at some of the twists coming towards the end, but that didn't really take away from my enjoyment.

It's mainly based at Kingmakers, a secret university only known about by the crime families of the world, where they send their sons and daughters to learn all sorts of skills and tools they'll need to take their places within the organisations. It's split into 4 divisions, heirs, accountants, spies, and enforcers. Our main characters are all within the heirs and have a long-standing family fued. I enjoyed this book for all the twists and turns to the story, and nothing comes easy as there are ploys to change even the strongest of relationships. Amongst all the plans, secrets, and sabotage alliances change and new relationships/ friendships formed all whilst battling it out in the annual contest they have, which pits all 4 years of students against each other. With the rivalry coming to a deadly head in the final task, this story keeps you invested and is well worth the read. I was a good read, although I found the attitude of the main characters to be quite childish at times and feel as though the book would have been over a lot sooner if they'd actually spoken to each other properly there was a lot of mixed signals and bad communication. Would still recommend for people who want a light summer holiday read with the book being based around a summer holiday to Greece too....more

Going into this book after reading it's description I was excited, a spicy vampire book sounded right up my street. Unfortunately for me, the story just didn't capture me. The world building and the story itself just felt like it was missing something. The main character is morally grey, and normally, with those types of characters, there's at least something redeeming about them, but that was not the case here. Kazan constantly lies and makes promises she doesn't keep, especially with the 'love interests'. For me, the spice also fell a bit flat, and there was no chemistry between Kazan and the other vampires. The epilogue/ ending to the story was disappointing and rushed after dragging out the rest of the book. Maybe I'm just too much of a happy ending lover, but I expected more from the end of the story than what we were given....more

This is the debut novel in this series and is a dual POV between Maeve, a princess, and Leviathan, a pirate captain. When Mae stows away on a pirate ship to avoid a forced marriage by her father, the king, and a generally terrible person, she finds herself under threat of becoming a prisoner all over again.
As the fmc who lived her life as a princess locked in a tower you can't help but fall in love with Mae as she's not afraid to pull her weight and speak her mind standing up to people who underestimate her! Captain Leviathan appears as a hardened pirate captain, but as harsh as he seems, there's a softness there too.
As the story progresses, feelings change, true identities are revealed, and everyone's fighting for their lives! This story was thrilling, and I just couldn't put it down, devouring it in one day.

The beginning of this book was hard to get into as it was heavy on the world building and was a lot of information to try and take in, which can be a bit overwhelming at times. I carried on reading as I wanted to get to where the story actually began and not let the barrage of information put me off, and I'm so glad I did.
This story was full of intrigue and twists. It's dual POV, and I was really rooting for both characters even though they're on opposing sides. As hard as getting through the start was once I got into it I couldn't put it down. Observing as relationships developed and the storyline started to come together and secrest were revealed and really pulled the story together. I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this for my honest review. I would recommend this book, and I would advise anyone to persevere through the heavy world building as it's worth it all once you get into the story....more

A great debut in this series with good worldbuilding and character development. We have Eleanor as our lead in this story, and she makes a great main character as she is smart, always calculating her next move and has sass. She's an alchemist who's trying to create gold when she finds herself imprisoned by the human king. In a desperate attempt to try and get her freedom back, she makes a deal with a fae who's known for his brutal deals. She ends up in the world of faerie trying to work out how to get back to the human world whilst fighting her growing attraction to the very fae that brought her here. Reading as Eleanor and Ruskin's relationship developed and then we finally get a bit of spice too. This story was fast-paced and kept you drawn in, I'm excited for the next book in the series to see where we go from that ending....more

Between the Hardy's, the Stonewood's, and the Armanelli's, I love reading all these series! I think its great that although these books are standalones, they all interlink not only within their own series but with each others series too. Every time I read one of these books with a new main couple, it's like you already know the family when they pop up! This book centres around Dex and Keelani, we've heard Kee's name mentioned in other books its great to finally get to know their story! With secrets and Kee's singing career coming between them, you get to see how they navigate being brought back together after 10 years apart. They fight their feelings for each other when they quite clearly love each other. Throw a little stalker drama into the mix, and you've got yourself a great story. Billionaire romance is one of my comfort reads, and this is another great book from Shain.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster and broke my heart. It is the first book of Paige's that I've read and what a book to start with!
The story centres around Liv and her life in Cornwall, we start off in the current summer, where a mysterious artist is drawing gorgeous art in the sand which captures Liv's attention. We are then transported to seven summers ago where her and Finns story starts, it starts off sweet but ends up being the worst summer of Liv's life. Finn's life is based in LA and Liv's in Cornwall and she cannot even think of how long distance could work so they go mostly no contact throughout the year and just have their summers if they are both single. Throughout the story we go back and forth between the story of this summer and the stories of the previous summers. The story of this summer is where we meet Tom, although they get off to a rough start Liv and Tom eventually hit it off and quickly form a romantic relationship even though he has things he is hiding. I'm not normally a huge fan of books with multiple love interests but Paige's writing drew me in. Towards the end of the book it felt like my heart was shattered, then put back together only to be shattered again. I just wish we got more in the bonus summers, some of them felt very short and I would have loved to read a bit more into Liv and Tom's relationship. The story was beautiful, and I'm glad we got a nice insight into how her life turned out in the end.

The description of this book led me to believe the fmc and mmc didn't get along and that it would be an enemies/rivals to lovers type scenario, but I felt that was not the case. The relationship between then never seemed to have any hate. Yeah, they sparred together, but it seemed friendly enough so I didn't see how she "couldn't stand" him as the blurb described. Their relationship just felt a bit flat, one minute they're just plodding along, and then suddenly they're together and in love. As for the rest of the story, I felt it was lacking a bit of world building. We don't really understand too much about the world outside of sanctuary. We only ever hear about 2 teachers and a small number of students, which seems strange if it's this whole academy the story is set in. I liked the little twist at the end, although I felt it was quite clear who was responsible even if there was the attempt to throw us off. I really wanted to love this book and it has potential, but it just didn't keep me intrigued, I would love to see a bit more depth to the story and world around it.

This book is well worth the read and is a great blend of lore and world building with characters full of personality, all while following a captivating story.
If you're looking for a story with: ✅️ Witches ✅️ Vampires ✅️ Werewolves ✅️ Murder mysteries and investigation ✅️ Fated mates
Then this is a book for you!!
The storytelling was brilliant, I fell in love with Callum and the townspeople there. The writing was so descriptive that I felt like I knew them all personally and what a community they are. Evelyn was a relatable lead, a witch with so much pressure put on to her by other people and bound to a prophecy but riddled with self doubt and the inability to see all her strengths other than her flame. I loved reading as her character developed and she began to believe in herself more. Kade definately helped her start to open up and I enjoyed reading how their relationship developed even with their guarded secrets, showing the real depth of their feelings for each other. They worked well as a team while investigating the mysterious murders going on and as the plot developed I was excited to discover all the different and new enemies they encountered. As for the twist at the end, I had a feeling something was off about them, but I did not guess what they were hiding.
I'm sad now the book is over and I have to wait for the next book to see what happens next and how Kade will react.
