I re-read this for my graphic novel book discussion, along with Blade of the Immortal, Volume 1: Blood of a Thousand. We had a great discussion, and II re-read this for my graphic novel book discussion, along with Blade of the Immortal, Volume 1: Blood of a Thousand. We had a great discussion, and I am happy for the excuse to re-visit this book. The monster/old god did not bother me as much as it did the first time, and I am happily upping this to 5 stars.
I love that 99% of the characters are women, and we get to see so many different representations of good women, bad women, ambiguous women (which, let's be real, most of them fall into this category). I look forward to the second volume.
Previously read: 06/26/2016 First, the art is fucking gorgeous in this. It's amazing, and I love it, and I love the muted, sepia-ish colors used throughout.
I love all the different representations of people you get in this story. It's so rare to see a non-white main character or a main character missing a limb, and here you have BOTH. AT THE SAME TIME! And she's a total badass! It's wonderful.
I love the talking cats with lots of tails, and I enjoyed the history lessons in the back of each issue from the professor cat.
The story sucked me in, and I can't wait to find out the mystery surrounding the main character's mom. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars is that the black, blobby, eye monster was just a touch too weird for me. I totally recommend this anyways, and I would like to re-read it in one go, now that I have all six issues of the comic, just to really get into the flow of the story.
