That the only emotions they can feel are lust and anger” This quote, and so many others made me just stop and think throughout this novel. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a serious overview of white male mediocrity/dominance throughout history. I learned so much information in this book, that at points I needed to just think for a little about the stuff I had just learned. ...more

I have a good relationship with my parents, so this didn’t speak to me, but I think it could be harmful to put so much weight on someone who could’ve been abused in childhood. Otherwise I appreciated this book and it definitely taught me stuff I didn’t know about epigenetics and generational trauma....more

It discusses a lot about bottom-up thinking vs top-down, and how those can help us help our patients. She also discusses how oftentimes negative behaviors are a result of something such as sensory processing rather than an attention-seeking behavior. Overall I highly recommend this as it's very informative and easy to read....more

I felt terrible for Mimi and Don many times in the book but found myself very upset at Mimi as the book grew on. I think they as parents were put in a difficult situation, but were trying to handle it how they could. I also really appreciated that they included some of the research that they did on their family. I will say if you are sensitive to child abuse please be aware there are some details of it in this book. All in all, it was a very sad but interesting book. ...more

The stories were great and I loved hearing different sides, but there were some obvious thoughts he sought to dismantle, with no facts to back up his opinion. I gained so much knowledge and awareness from this one book alone. Racism is alive, and has been for a very long time it was just ignored by many white people. In this book Chris Hayes covers all the way from the war on crime, police brutality, playing to white fear, and more. The blatant difference in sentencing, treatment, etc between white and black citizens is completely outraging. Understanding law and order, and many other dynamics made this a very knowledgeable read. I will be recommending this to many many people. ...more

I had been craving a fun light-hearted romance and that's exactly what this was. The Strong brothers are a group of adopted sons of a woman named Mama Joy. After her passing, her sons are left to keep her infamous knitting business afloat. While that is happening, his lifelong friend and patron of Mama Joy's store comes on to the scene to help them out. What unfolds is their slow burn, back and forth romance. So cute and fun, the perfect "beach read." When this one comes out, definitely go pick it up, I flew right through it. Definitely in the top 10 I’ve read this year. This book is set in two different times, with alternating chapters. The main portion is set in 1914 where we meet Laura Lyons, the wife of a man named Jack who works for the New York Public Library. They also LIVE in the library, in an apartment which is just such a cool setting for the book. They’re trying to solve why books are going missing, and Laura is trying to become a journalist at Columbia university. The other portion is set in 1993 where we follow Sadie a curator at the New York Public Library, who is also trying to solve a mystery about books going missing from the collection. She discovers many things from the past along her search. There were so many plot points I never got bored. Between the mystery, historical elements, feminist icons, and LGBTQ+ representation this one is a homerun on all aspects. I was never bored, and it was definitely the most unique historical fiction I’ve ever read. I highly recommend you read it once it’s available. Thank you to Dutton books for the arc in exchange for an honest review....more
