I wonder Another solid installment of Farmer's dark fantasy app series. The technology she came up with in the "sex apartment" was super interesting. I wonder if there's something like that in the works in real life. The way these two were shoved into each other's paths was a spectacular fated mates moment.
I docked a star because there were a few open ended situations that seemed like they were important, mentioned several times, and then just didn't resolve. Like, WHO IS RACHEL'S BOYFRIEND?

The first 40% of this book is fiiiiilthy, the filthiest Farmer omegaverse I've read so far, then it pivots to danger -- getting mixed up in a huge drug deal in the woods, being captured by his asshole fiance, somehow evading death. I was definitely speedreading through the danger parts wondering how they were going to escape, but it's ROMANCE, so of course they get their HEA!

The rules of the universe in this book seemed to not quite equal the rules in the other books. Only mention of one knot, a lot more lucidity during ruts and heats. Leo does mention that his heats are a little different than others, but it doesn’t quite add up. I really liked Steve’s friends and wish they had a series. It’s a good thing the author clarified that Steve was named after Captain America, because wow. What a name for a MC in 2024. She also throws in a “transgender alpha” in the epilogue with literally zero explanation. There aren’t females in this universe, and I don’t think there are betas, so it’s an omega who’s now an alpha? Made it more interesting that it’s the only friend who’s married and has kids in the friend group. I immediately have several questions and not even about the MCs. Also includes a very lengthy discussion in the epilogue about two of the friends in the group getting married in secret. Just another side plot that was just thrown in there. Also was maybe implied that the two were alphas? Lots of loose ends!

EstI'm not sure I'll ever find a dragon shifter book set in the real world and not want to read it immediately. This series broke my semi-book slump! Establishes a lot of the lore and we meet so many of the characters, but it never felt like information dumps. Nate's take no shit attitude is perfect for what all his dragon kin consider Alistair to be -- eccentric, weak (as in he almost didn't hatch) and poor (because he doesn't have as many billions as his siblings). Just a quick, hilarious read that includes humans laying eggs and dragons being so obsessed with gold that their hoard rooms have a place to sit or lie down to get off or have sex.

There's a spontaneous rut, a heat awakening, lots of fluids, fated mates! In this omegaverse, it's extremely rare for alphas and omegas to have complementary scents, or "cogni-redolant" scents, which means they share a similar taste in scent and are very agreeable to each other. Automatic fated mates if you find it. Blue balls are also a real thing in this universe, what with their constant knots during ruts and sometimes spontaneous orgasms and knots with lots of fluid. And what do you know -- it's the best thing to ever happen to the omega! Loved how Horvat incorporated the lore and history of the world by using a librarian and informative omegas. I'd consider this erotica, but there's enough plot to move it along that you don't feel like it's porn without plot. Just Horvat doing what he does best -- omegaverse with lots of sex.

Omegas are the lowest on the totem pole, even if they're the ones creating new life to continue bloodlines and the species itself (SOUND FAMILIAR?) In this universe, omega heats are sold by alpha parents or family members or auctioned off, it's not an organic thing. Sometimes it leads to love, but the book made it seem like a lot of them didn't, and that omegas have gained more rights in recent years in being able to stipulate the terms of their contracts and to file for divorces.
I really appreciated how Blake fleshed out the universe as a whole in this book. Authors rarely do that, leading the reader to make assumptions based on previously read books or just from real life in general. One interesting thing that she wrote that I've never seen in any other book is how difficult it is for omegas to use the bathroom after they give birth. Finally, someone says it. ...more

Josh goes into heat every 2 weeks and Damon isn't enough to keep his medical condition from putting him in an early grave, so they hire Leo, an alpha sex worker who likes helping omegas through heats and isn't as aggressive as alphas normally are (and also vers). The entire story was told from Leo's POV, and I honestly didn't notice until about 20% from the end. Vivancos really makes sure that we're informed enough through conversations and actions of Josh and Damon through Leo's eyes. It's masterful. Leo's gradual folding into the Josh and Damon's relationship didn't seem forced, and while the book is only 150ish pages, it spans over a year. Leo's journey from an emotionally closed off sex worker ignoring the child abuse of his youth, to opening up his heart to Josh and Damon and realizing he wants to more with his life than just sex work was, again, captured well in such a short book! Clearly I can't get over it.
My ONLY complaint is the unique omega anatomy that Vivancos has created. You'll know what I mean when/if you read it....more

There's so much of Janus that's only alluded to in this book, I think reading 2 and 3 closer together would've been better. That said, Blake once again wrote omegaverse that was frightening close to what's going on in the actual world -- Kerry is forced to stay with his husband because of a contract and be the incubator for his in-laws so they have an heir, even though their only son is a terrible person. Only in this story, magic basically saves Kerry and gives him and Janus their HEA. If only real life could be so easy....more
