There were maybe a handful of poems in here that I liked. I definitely think it is way too over hyped and just didn't really leave that big of an impact on me.
It touches on rape and feminism, both important topics, but the way it was formatted was just kind of bland for me and some of the poems even felt a little pointless; maybe nine words with weird line breaks. Not really anything impactful or new.
As a whole, I'm not really surprised that I didn't like it but I do understand it could be very important to someone and obviously has been to so many people judging by its stay on bestseller lists. ...more

It did a decent job is getting the main points of the story across but I much prefer the explanations and character development you get in the books. The art style was okay, not at all my favorite.

This also had one of my favorite type of creepy settings; psychiatric hospitals which I find so incredibly interesting. It was neat learning about the delusions so many schizophrenic patients create to cope with horrible things they may have done, as well as patients with other types of mental illnesses....more

We're thrown right into Judith's head without any explanation of the world or the town that they live in and I was struggling to keep up for the first quarter of the book, despite the fact that I really liked the writing style.
There were some incredibly infuriating characters in here that I despised; namely the preacher, Judith's mother, and the teacher. But I liked Judith as a main protagonist and found Lucas to be an endearing love interest.
I wasn't all that shocked by the ending even though I was pleased with the way events turned out. Overall, it was an enjoyable story for me mainly because of the way it was told via second person and it such an almost poetic way. Solid three stars, but not a book I'll ever reread....more

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a big fan of the Five Nights at Freddy's games. It's a fun and fast paced thriller with all of the elements of the gameplay thrown into the storyline, as well as little easter eggs for those who are very familiar with the game's characters and storyline.
People who aren't fans of the game or may not have ever heard of it might not enjoy it quite as much. I am a big fan of the idea behind the game and the game itself though I haven't played it a ton of times. Something about the concept of sentient animatronic animals is just a fun and mildly terrifying idea that I find very fascinating....more

Jamie is one of the sweetest people I've ever come across and even though I've never met him, I feel like I know so much about him and his life becausJamie is one of the sweetest people I've ever come across and even though I've never met him, I feel like I know so much about him and his life because of how personal this series of essays is. It's truly a look into this man's incredibly large heart.
It was also amazing to open this book up and see a forward note by one of my favorite human beings, Jon Foreman, who if you don't know is the lead singer of Switchfoot; as well as to see the rest of the band mentioned in the acknowledgements. And a brief mention of Mat Kearney, whose music I also enjoy and who I have also seen in concert.
This broke me. It gave me hope. It made me cry. It made me want to be a better person. I think every single human being in this planet would come away from this book with something. It's that powerful. ...more

I liked this one even more than the first volume! I really enjoyed getting some of the backstory for both the world and some of the characters. The art in this one was even more stunning as well. The dark tones and the papery pages add a lot to the dark dystopian feel of the story.

I'm gonna start this off by being completely honest; the only reason I forced myself to finish this series is because I wanted to know the reason behiI'm gonna start this off by being completely honest; the only reason I forced myself to finish this series is because I wanted to know the reason behind the zombie plague. How it came to be, why there were some fast zombies, what they were going to do about it, etc.
But when I say I had to force myself to read it, I really trudged through and had to literally force myself to even care to pick the book up. The pacing felt all over the place. The romances felt so incredibly unnecessary and out of place; though that goes for the entire series, not just this book. I still didn't care for The Night Church as the new villains; my favorite villain in this series has to be Preacher Jack.
I felt like the "kind of cure" was a little too easily discovered and convenient. I felt they took away an opportunity for a couple of character deaths that could have been incredibly meaningful and impactful for the group, and instead gave them all a convenient out. I still didn't care for most of the characters; the only ones I still was vaguely interested in seeing how their stories ended were Riot, Lilah, and Joe. And maybe a little bit of Benny.
Overall, this turned out to be a sort of meh series for me. 2.5 stars for this book. ...more

I found myself so detached and just not caring about almost anything that was happening. I didn't like the villains in this one nearly as much as the last two books. I would literally be reading a battle scene or a death scene and be like well, that happened, with little to no emotion. I definitely need to take a break from this series.
I do still really like Benny. I have finally decided that I do not like Nix, at all. I have no feelings whatsoever towards Chong. I love Lilah. I very much enjoyed the introduction of the two new characters Ranger Joe and Riot. ...more

Warrick was definitely my favorite character and I feel like there's a lot more to him than we got to see in this volume. I absolutely adored our main character Emma; she was so sassy, sarcastic, and honestly just so entertaining to follow as she journeyed to Oz.
Yes, you read that correctly. Oz. Like The Wizard of Oz; this story is centered around a Namesake who does seem to make sense as she ends up in the land of Oz and comes into contact with so many of the characters we all know and love as well as a few new ones added in.
I very much enjoyed the art style of this graphic novel as well; the way it played with color, some of the pages being black and white and others in full color, was so visually pleasing and very different from any art style I've ever come across.
Easiest 5/5 stars I've given in a longtime. I cannot wait to get my hands on Volume 2....more

I still love the zombie apocalypse world and I really enjoy that the main focus of this series is the moral behind the fact that zombies were once people. It's something very different from what I'm used to with The Walking Dead where the rule of the land is kill first and ask questions later, if at all.
I still really do not like the main romance, but once again I can't tell if the reason is that I don't like those two characters together or if it's just that I don't like it because I'm reading it from the perspective of a fifteen year old boy and his mind regarding romance just bugs me.
I would also just like to say that Preacher Jack was absolutely terrifying.
I really enjoyed a lot of the characters introduced in this novel and I am interested in seeing where the next books take the story....more

I am a little confused on the lineage and how these generations of these 'avengers' came to be, but I just kind of went along with it and enjoyed them as their own characters. I also really loved the art style in this.

I really liked that this book was split up into two sections; one with the events involving Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and the riders of Rohan; and thenI really liked that this book was split up into two sections; one with the events involving Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and the riders of Rohan; and then a second section following Frodo, Sam, and Smeagol. I've always found the storyline with Aragorn and company more interesting than Frodo's Journey in the movies so it was nice to see them sectioned off that like that.
My favorite part about this book is the battle of Helm's deep, including Legolas and Gimli's competition on who could kill more orcs. Such fun humor in the midst of a serious battle. Also, is it just me or are the events in this part of the novel slightly different than in the movie? I could be getting the movies confused seeing as it's been a couple of years since I've seen them but I thought the elves got involved in The Battle for Helm's Deep, namely Haldir....more
