The setting of an isolated island with so much snow and ice was great and amped up the tension.
Shana is. Is 7 months pregnant and easing herself back from physical duty, much to her disgust. But when a witness asks for her especially she can’t refuse. A social media influencer has gone missing Running alone island and his girlfriend wants Shana’s help. At the same time we have a cold case that Shana has never been able to let go come to its conclusion with very surprising results.
If you haven’t read this series you need to change that immediately. Each book I feel can be read as a stand alone but why would you do that when this is such a great series.

Which Our 23rd trip to serial killer central is an absolute blast!! It is cold, snow constantly falling and blocking roads and pathways in the woods. Which is not helpful when a plane has crashed with the daughter of one of their own on board, and a serial killer leaving the naked bodies of women tied to trees in the woods. Always so much happening in Black Rock Falls.
Another page turning, fast paced crime thriller that I stayed up well into the night to finish. I love this team and their stories just keep getting better, after 23 books so many series get old and tired but not this one. The author keeps you guessing right until the end. I really enjoyed having a different character in the middle of the action this time.

I feel that the story jumped around quite a bit and I struggled to believe the headmaster character in this day and age.

This book is creepy in so many ways.. I mean dolls are always enough to make me squirm. This book is full of them, and a doll maker to boot. It is emotional, a mother and teenager grieving the loss of the man in their lives. There is a missing girl, a new school and a memorial garden.
So much in so few pages..

Desperate Housewives meets Dexter vibes..how could you not want to pick it up. Serial killer books are some of my favourites, and a female one.. well I had to read it. I binged this in a day, it was so fun, violent and messed up in so many ways.. loved it.
Eloise is a stay at home mother, housewife, and wife, PTA president and friend… oh and a serial killer. Nobody would suspect this upstanding member of the community of the horrific murders she commits. We learn about her past and how she became this monster. When it appears that somebody knows her secrets, things escalate and she will do anything to protect them.
This is one crazy and seriously unhinged woman and ai was there for it all. Read this book.

Jennie Whitmore has always been haunted by her best friend’s disappearance 30 years ago. Now a police officer, she is the first call when a body is found under her old school as it is being demolished. Could she finally find out what happened to Hannah.
I really felt for a Jennie as she navigated through this case, having to learn some truths about her teenage years and people she believed to be her friends. I loved her determination to find the truth, whilst frying to hide her true relationship with the deceased in order to stay in the case. It was a quick and satisfying read.

Maddy is a ghostwriter, and has been hired by a well known cosmetic surgeon, Angela Reynolds, to write her memoir. She is invited to her house in the Scottish Highlands to write and research. But Angela is only there a few hours before jetting off to see patients. Maddy gets increasingly frustrated with the lack of information on Angela, and the woman is not very forthcoming with her life story. Her time at the house is not what she expected ,and she meets Angela’s business partner Scott, and the 2 hit it off.
I don’t really want to say too much more as it will spoil the story for you. It certainly picks up pace in the second half, with so much happening. Maddy was a strange character, she was very obsessive and her relationship with Scott is built up into something so fast despite the fact they hardly know each other. I just went with it while shaking my head at times.

Early 2000s and Maiko and Adrian are the hottest new things in town. Young, beautiful and talented, everyone wants a piece of them. Things just keep getting better, professionally and personally.. that is until they don’t. We follow this couple over 20 years, though good times and bad. We really get to know them both so well, and become invested in them completely.
This is a quick and fun read, but it also covers some dark and triggering subjects. It felt like watching a Netflix documentary on the 2 actors, unable to tear my eyes away.

Millie gets an unexpected promotion, no pay rise but extra work and travelling with Freya, the boss from hell. On her first day she finds herself in Paris on a work trip, when she sees her boss dressed all in black and scaling up the outside of the hotel they are staying at. The best day a man is found dead. Millie stars to invest and finds it is the first time a dead body is found while her boss has been away,
This was a darkly humorous story that had me turning the pages into the night. I loved The Perfect Twin by this author and this was up there with it. So fun to read, it had me laughing when really I shouldn’t have been. Freya was a truly awful character but I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It is twisty, shocking and emotional.

Last year I read and couldn’t get enough of Daniel Burkes first adventure in Las Vegas, and Enemy of the State picks right up where The Killing Room left off. After everything that had happened, all Daniel wants to do is get out of town, but things get complicated when his former team of operatives are hunting him down., the government want him brought in as a traitor to his country!!
Now if you read the first book, you know that Daniel is not taking this laying down. He knows he is innocent, being framed and will not let this happen. But who can he trust? Seriously, everyone has secrets, everyone is part of something dodgy and nobody is who they say they are. But Daniel knows this, he trusts nobody and is out to save himself.
This book is non stop action from start to finish, and once again leaves it wide open for the next book. Daniel is dealing with some pretty awful people and his training comes into play, not everyone will live to see another day. There is motorcycle gangs, kidnapping, lots of heavy weapons and firearms, car chases, you name it, it is probably in here. I loved it!!

DI Elise King has her work cut out for her finding this killer. With help from investigative journalist Kiki.Nunn, the 2 women will unearth so much more than they ever expected.
Fiona Barton books are always so interesting, with well fleshed out characters and storylines. This was a fast read, with plenty of potential assailants in the mix. A small town, where everyone knows everyone’s business, surely it can’t be that hard to get the killer. I had an inkling of who the killer was going to be early on and I was proved to be right which makes a change for me. Nonetheless I really enjoyed this murder mystery. It was nice to have Elise back in another story.

Maya is devastated when her younger sister Naomi is found dean in a lake near the campus. She is sure that her sister would not take her own life and she knows the darkness that lurks behind the walls of this prestigious school. Maya was once a student here and has her own dark past that she does not want to come back. What did her sister get caught up in?
This was a tough book to read at times. Full of characters that you will absolutely loathe. A story of the rich getting richer, the connections people so desperately want and secret societies. So many lies. It was a fabulous debut novel that is well worth a read.

You really get the sense of being off grid and away from the rest of the world. The setting is definitely a big part of this story and I really enjoyed it.
Elin and her brother Issac are on a trip to get away from it all and reconnect. That is until Issac tells Elin he promised to look into the disappearance of a friend’s sister, Kier, who vanished from this very place. Elin can’t help but get caught up in the mystery and trying to find the girl. The people living at the camp nearby are not very forthcoming but she knows that they know more about Elin. We learn more in the alternate chapters from Kiers point of view in the past. Why she was there to begin with and what could have happened to her.
This series has been fabulous and I am sad to see it end. This is a story of family, controlling men and much much more. I don’t want to spoil anything but it is one you just have to read. It is eerie with the isolated location and the people there.

Despite its content, this was a fun and entertaining book that I read in 2 sittings. I was surprised to learn that this was a pen name for CJ Cooke, an author that I have always wanted to read.
3 friends who share a dark history travel to the Maldives to celebrate Darcy’s divorce. Cocktails, stunning views, beautiful food, massage sessions and snorkelling with turtles… heaven. But not everything is as it seems and they are soon looking over their shoulders as their past is back in their faces.

This is a fast-paced mystery that I just could not put down. I read it in 2 sitting, needing to know what on earth would happen next. Eva thought everything as going well in her life and marriage, until her husband doesn’t come home after a night out with the boys. Next thing she knows she gets a text to say that he has met someone else and is leaving her. This is just the beginning of the drama. It was an original idea and for the most part I enjoyed it, although I did feel that it lagged in the middle a bit. There were a lot of characters to keep straight as well.
