I figured out reasonably early who was involved and some of the motivation but I didn't figure it all out until "Andy" explained it. I enjoyed listening to this one so much that I even finished the book at the gym, a thing I rarely do (too many distractions there)....more

Bummed (but relieved in some ways) that there aren't any more of the books after this one in audio. A creepy dude is taking pictures of the new employee...and Emily. Then a local girl is murdered and the photographer does his best to frame Em. Luckily she and Brent Fyne are on the case and naturally they solve it....more

CompleAnother book I read while at the beach, I liked this better than book 1 in the series and I suspect that I'll end up reading the entire series. Completionism for the win. A bride loses her husband on her wedding day, at the reception. Emily's delicious treats are blamed, so naturally she has to figure it out to defend her good name. Naturally she figures it out and the murderer is eventually nabbed, not without some close calls for Emily. The close calls also extend to her love life, with detective Brent Fyne being into her......more

I don't know if it was because there were so many new (non-regular) characters or if it was because I just wasn't in the right mindset. I figured out whodunnit pretty early in the book. I enjoyed it, but not as much as others. I listened to this mostly in audio, I wonder if that hampered my enjoyment. I appreciate how Bujold transformed the relationship between Cordelia and Aral and gave great backstory for the rest of the Vorkoskigan saga. I also appreciate how Bujold hit topics head-on and didn't just use them as small devices but really tried to address them from multiple angles. I'll never get over that passage I highlighted (and added in one of the updates) about the state of women's healthcare. I suspect I'll be thinking about this one for a long time....more
