I liked the glimpses of history and the different time periods represented, and the bits of information about each time (which I hope was actual research); but because of the living through time chronology, the story jumped around a lot - which made it somewhat difficult to follow at times. I also felt like the bad guy was contrived, and the protagonist never had clear-cut reasons for why he did what he did - he was rather wishy-washy at times. So while interesting, with decent writing, it didn't wow me. ...more

I've read some of Lewis' other non-fiction books, and appreciate his writing style - in this case, I think I might have preferred simply reading the books over the audio recording I listened to. It felt rather over the top to me, and the sound was quite uneven, sometimes extremely loud, and other times difficult to hear. Over all though, engaging enough that I went on to listen to the other six books that make up the Chronicles of Narnia. The story itself I loved - though it did take me some time to get used to animals being main characters and talking....more
