Maven, the FMC, gives major Wednesday vibes, so I would have read it based on that alone, but I honestly love everything about this story. The writing is phenomenal. Mildred and Atakan are EVERYTHING!!!!! They are going down as one of my favorite romantasy couples of all time. I seriously get chills when I think about them.
Mildred is forced to marry a fae prince as part of an alliance between the human and Seelie kingdoms. Atakan, her betrothed, is less than enthused by their impending nuptials, and he makes that clear from their very first meeting. Mildred isn't anymore impressed with him than he is with her. Their mutual loathing is especially delicious because they actively try to harm each other before Mildred even moves in with him. Their twisted banter and the games they play with each other made my dark romance loving heart happy.
All that hate made the love even sweeter. The tension between these two is insane. Their chemistry is electric. When they finally break for each other, it will melt your heart, and don't worry, this isn't one of those stories where the villain does a complete 180 when he falls in love. Their dynamic and who they are stay in tact, but with less trying to murder each other and more banging each other's brains out. Speaking of!!! The spicy scenes in this one require a bucket and a mop, if you know what I'm saying!
Basically, if toxic romance gives you the warm and fuzzies, look no further for your next read! The enemies to lovers aspect in this story is chef's motherfucking kiss!!!! If that's your favorite trope, you would be crazy to pass this one up.

If you think that sounds like one crazy story, then you would be absolutely right! I went in looking for love, comedy, and chaos, and I came out totally satisfied. If there is one thing I can promise you, it’s that you won’t read another book like Worth It this year...or probably ever!
Lydia’s ex, Anderson, is getting married to the woman he cheated on her with, and she was invited to their wedding. She tells her best friends, Kasha and Henley, she feels like going to the wedding is something she has to do. They don’t understand it, but being the great friends that they are they agree to go with her for moral support. Of course, exacting a little revenge on the groom to be is also a motivating factor.
Once they arrive, Kasha runs into a guy she knew in high school, Roman, …while she is half naked. After that, he seems to turn up everywhere just to see her make a fool of herself in some way or another. Considering she is the most accident prone woman alive, that happens a lot. It doesn’t take long for them to go from getting on each other’s nerves to getting each other off.
Henley is surprised to find out her ex- friend/boyfriend, Davis, is attending the wedding. The last time she saw him she was eighteen years old, and he had just taken her virginity. Considering he disappeared right after, she is surprised that he seems as into her now as he was when they were together. Davis is even hotter than she remembers, and she quickly decides it won’t hurt to show him exactly what it is he missed out on.
What begins as a fling for both couples starts to turn into something more. They live in different places, so they ignore the inevitable and try to have fun while it lasts. What will happen when the week is over and it’s time to say goodbye?
There is so much more that I want to say about this story, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Throughout the entirety of the book one crazy thing happens after another. There is pranks being pulled, body parts being exposed, and accidents galore! If there is one thing this book is not, it’s boring! Kasha literally can’t stop showing her ass, her prosthetic has a mind of it’s own, and she is repeatedly attacked by members of the bird family. Davis gets new underwear, Henley gets a sore ass, the groom finds himself in deep shit, and Lydia drops the mic. If you want to understand exactly what I mean, you will have to read the book to find out!
Worth It by C.M. Owens and S.M. Shade is one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. The writing is engaging, the story is wild, and the characters are endearing. The only reason I didn’t give this five stars was because Kasha kept getting herself into the exact same situation a bit too much for my liking. Regardless, this book more than lived up to my expectations. Hilarious, heartwarming, outrageous, and fun, reading this was totally worth it!

Love Sprung from Hate by Sienna Blake is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I have always had a thing for star-crossed lovers/forbidden love, so I was automatically interested. Learning a crime family would be involved just solidified the deal! I had never read any of this author’s previous work, so I crossed my fingers and dove right in.
“Romeo” is a man from an infamous crime family in Verona named Roman whose father is trying to groom him to take over the family business…a business that he wants no part of. His father let him do whatever he wanted in Europe for years apart from the family, but now that his other son, Jacob, has been killed, he needs Roman to step up to the plate and fill his shoes.
“Juliet” is a woman named Julianna that is the daughter of the police chief in Verona. She is a cop herself, and she has been struggling like hell to prove herself to him and the rest of the department. It is hard enough to be taken seriously as a woman in a male dominated profession, but it’s even harder when the chief of police is your dad, and he doesn’t give you any serious cases.
When her father finally decides to give her what she wants, Roman turns out to be the suspect sitting across from her in the interrogation room. If her father or anyone on the force finds out that she slept with the heir to the Tyrell crime family’s throne, she will be the laughing stock of the department and never gain her father’s approval. What would happen to Roman if his family found out he was sleeping with a cop? No matter what, one thing was made clear that day in the police station. Whatever was between Roman and Julianna wasn’t over. It was just beginning.
Love Sprung from Hate is a story packed full of instalove, steam, and suspense. Sometimes instalove doesn’t work for me, but since this is a Romeo and Juliet retelling, that made me let that slide. We need the characters to feel strongly about each other or the story wouldn’t work, and I think the author achieved what she intended to do. This is the first book in a trilogy, and for that reason, I was left wanting more from the story. I assume I will get it in the next two books, and that is good enough for me for now. Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I was invested enough in it to want to see what happened to the characters in the next installment. If you like retellings with a modern day spin or forbidden romance, you might want to give this one a try!...more
As a lover of Shakespearean tragedy, the Dark Romeo trilogy was something that I knew I had to read as soon as I heard about it. Don’t get me wrong, IAs a lover of Shakespearean tragedy, the Dark Romeo trilogy was something that I knew I had to read as soon as I heard about it. Don’t get me wrong, I think Romeo and Juliet were two stupid kids that mistook intense lust for love, but the story is a great one nonetheless! Before I came to that conclusion as an adult, I thought the story was incredibly romantic. Something about feelings so strong that you would give up anything and risk everything for another person is even more beautiful than love without complication. Now I view it as it actually is, a true tragedy, because they gave up their lives for someone that they knew for only a few days in total. Maybe their relationship would have lasted and maybe it wouldn’t have, but they made extreme decisions in the heat of the moment that made their lives come to a sudden and tragic end.
Roman and Julianna are definitely making some Romeo and Juliet style risky decisions throughout this book. The difference is that they recognize the seriousness of their situation and are sometimes forced to make some of the decisions they do in order to save each other. They are more aware of the consequences of their actions and even try to put a stop to everything more than once. That allowed me to be drawn further into the story without too much eye rolling or head shaking in disbelief. Romeo and Juliet were very young, and that made it easier for me to excuse their irrational and impulsive behavior. Roman and Julianna are both full grown adults in important positions and that would make me less sympathetic and more aggravated if they behaved too recklessly. I think the author did a fine job balancing everything in such a way that I didn’t get that frustrated with the characters’ behavior, and I even understood most of the decisions they made.
Does that mean they always did what I would have done? No, but that also makes the story a lot more interesting. The push and pull, uncertainty, and mistakes are what made me root for them even harder. It may be too much for some people though, so if that’s not your thing, steer clear of this one. Roman was giving me and Julianna whiplash in this book, especially at the end.
The Scent of Roses was better than its predecessor for me, because there was more suspense, action, and turmoil this time around. We learn more about Roman, the relationship between Roman and Julianna feels more developed, and the risks keep getting bigger and bigger. There was less sex, because the characters spend a lot of time pushing each other away, but what we do get is hot! I can’t wait to find out what happens to these two star-crossed lovers in the final book! Will Roman and Julianna end up like Romeo and Juliet, or will the author gives us a happier ending? I’m hoping for the latter. Finger’s crossed!...more

I love a story involving a sexy, wealthy man with a grumpy disposition who lives in a big, gothic mansion complete with a spectacular library and rumors of beastly behavior surrounding them. Don't you? If so, this might just be the book for you.
P. Rayne did an awesome job of incorporating all the fairytale's signature elements, along with a little violence, family trauma, and a whole lot of delicious spice. Asher and Annabelle's romance was perfectly paced, entertaining, and hot af. I read it all in one sitting, and it did not disappoint!
The whole Midnight Manor series is going to be a blast, if this one is any indication. The next installment is a retelling of Rapunzel, and I can't wait! I assume that the bartender in town having the name Cinder is no coincidence either. Rest assured, I will be reading all of these books as they come out, and if you're a retelling fan, you should, too!...more
