The only thing really interesting about this one is that you find out how Wendel died and where he came from. There were also some mild mystery scenes that were interesting. But outside of that, just basic mundane things that teenagers do and experience. And I found myself a little bored through a good portion of it and was in a hurry for it to be over. There's nothing inherently bad with Lights. It's not a bad graphic novel. In fact the art work (just like in the first two) is absolutely gorgeous! I just found myself bored through a lot of it, sadly. And I wanted so badly to like this one as much, if not more than Delicates! ...more

Delicates covered so many important topics. And I think if you pick any of them up, it should be this one. You may miss a couple of things from the first one. But most of it is talked about again in this one. So I think you should be fine to just read this one if you really wanted to. I really appreciated the discussion on bullying and what it feels like to be alone. And how those things can lead to being or feeling suicidal. No one wants to feel alone or like an out cast. And this teaches some important lessons on that. (Also obviously a trigger warning for suicidal thoughts and near attempt.) And I loved that by the end of this the moral was that its okay to be "different" and to like things that society don't consider the norm. It's okay to be unique and to be YOU. Because there's only one you in the world. And you are important.wveryone has something to add to the world and to the people around them. As someone who has had multiple family members and friends (myself included) either take their lives or have been depressed as well as some of them having been bullied at some point in their lives, I really appreciated the discussion on depression and bullying. Such an important little graphic novel and I think it could teach a lot of people that don't understand, what it feels like and why it's so important to be nice to everyone around you. Also, I must add that the artistry is absolutely GORGEOUS. I think it really added to the story/graphic novel. Beautiful story. Both in the art work and in the plot itself. ...more

But given how much I loved East, I want to pick it's origin up and then reread East and pick up the sequel afterwards.:) I listened to the audiobook while baking sugar cookies on Christmas eve. And let me tell you, there isn't a more perfect activity, time or setting to read/listen to this book. (Although I do think I would have gotten even MORE out of this if I had been able to follow along in a physical copy. So I need to reread it regardless. But I still loved it any way!) Thanks to East, I realized hoe much I love artic adventure books. I never thought myself as much of an adventure book reader. But now that I know that I am, I'm looking into other snowy adventure books. (Any suggestions? ...more

The charact3.5 This book has pros and cons depending on the kind of reader you are. If you're a character based reader, you're going to love this one! The characters are so three dimensional and have so much depth. They're all very different, unique and lyou really end up loving all of them by the end. If youre a plot based reader, this one might bore you a bit. The first 3/4 of the book is mostly learning about the characters and seeing them steal small things from other people. Things don't pick up and get really exciting until the last fourth of the book when they finally go through with the heist and the ship inevitably (obviously sinks). I think it would have been more interesting for the characters to pull off the heist sooner in the book and have them trying to keep from getting caught. I think it would have kept the plot moving a little more before the big finale when the boat sinks. I saw a lot of similarities between A million To One and the movie Titanic. Just tiny things but it was fun to see! I also appreciated that the author added some much needed diversity to the setting! Also, I did listen to the ARC audiobook of this. The narrator never changed her voice for any of the characters so I got confused sometimes on who was speaking. That said though, it was and ARC so hopefully it won't be like that in the finished product. Over all I think this was a good book and would highly recommend it if (like me) you're obsessed with the titanic and it's story/history. And or especially if you like character based books. If that's the case, this one is definitely the book for you! Big thank you to the publisher for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!...more
I had a hard time settling on a rating and formulating my thoughts on this. The first half of the book was closer to a 2 star and the last half could I had a hard time settling on a rating and formulating my thoughts on this. The first half of the book was closer to a 2 star and the last half could be a 3 or 3.5? The reason being that this was not at all what i was expecting. Sooo... Don't do what I did and go into this thinking its all about goth. It has a goth MC but it is not about the fact she is goth. The title was misleading... The cover and writting was juvenile which lead me to believe it was Middle grade. I thought this would be like a cutesy gothic story... It's not. I also didn't expect Commic Con and constant pop culture/ pop culture references to play as big of a role in the story as it does. I enjoy Comic Con so I think it is a cool aspect to the story. But I wish it wasn't basically the WHOLE story. Aside from a romance, Comic Con and the characters skits are the entirety of the book and it started to irritate me a bit... Plus it made certain scenes a tad bit corny. Also the descriptions of the clothes were on going. It sometimes took half a page to describe one persons outfit. (And we have to go into deep deep detail on all 4 characters outfits.) So that added to some of my annoyance. I think I would have liked this more if it was more of a contemporary without all the Comic Con stuff. But to each their own... HOWEVER! I absolutely ADORED these characters! This is definitely a character based book and the author did an excellent job with the character building and development. Every character was very different from the others and were very distinguished in their unique personalities. They all had different backgrounds and they were all very diverse. Diversity. That's the other thing that I appreciated about this book. The diversity! There is an LGBTQ character, fat MC (and done in a positive way,) neurodiversity. There was so much of it and I soked it all in! As I mentioned before, their back grounds are all very different and Ienjoyed getting to know them on such a deep, real level. I loved loved LOVED that this brings up discussions on foster kids/parents. And better yet, its own voices! I was in a foster home and because of that, I saw myself in the main character. It has several other discussions as well. Everything from the stigma horror movies tend to bring on upon mental illness, the effects on a child after being placed in foster homes, the effect mental illness has ones self and loved ones, body positivity/fat shaming, so many important discussions! Discussions that I think a lot of young adults can relate to and learn a lot from. Discussions that Young Adults should be a part of. I truly think this book could really help a lot of kids! Basically the characters, their backgrounds and the important topics were so very well done! I just really wish that where it is already character based anyways, that it had focused more on being character based and put in a little more of a normal setting. It wouldn't feel so busy that way! But thats a personal preference. I think anyone who enjoys those kind of events, loves pop culture, darker but important topics or has been in the foster care system themselves, could really get a lot out of this book and end up loving it. Finally, I want to send a huge Thank You to the publisher and author for sending me an e-ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review! :)...more

Huge thank you to Source Fire Books and Rachel Griffin for allowing me to read and review the ARC of Wild Is The Witch! I found this book to be extremely comforting. The writing is absolutely stunning and the atmosphere is so rich and vivid. The whole experience is very immersive. Being immersed with nature and animals made for such an enjoyable and comforting reading time. I was also blown away by how natural Witches fit into this world. This reads a lot like a contemporary and it feels like these kinds of witches are a normal thing in our lives. It just into place so well and i think thats a very hard thing to do. Especially when its set in our own world. But Rachel Griffin did it and she did it well! However, because this did feel more like a contemporary, i was left feeling a little bummed. Thats not to say this isnt a good book. I just didnt get what i wanted to get out of it. I was hoping for way more witchy vibes/ fantasy scenes. (Which there are, it just was done in a more contemporary way.) I guess i was expecting this to be way more fantasy and plot filled and it wasnt. This is actually very much character based. I will say, if youre a contemporary reader and are afraid of fantasy, this would probably be a great place for you to start. I would also recommend this to anyone who likes green witches and contemporary novels! This may have been a 3 star for me but its an objective 4 star. So im settling on a 3.5! :)...more

I've read all of Stephanie Garber's books so far and I've loved or at least enjoyed them. This was no different. She has yet to let me down! Unfortunately I can't say a whole lot where this is the sequel. But I will say that I love how absolutely whimsy and cozy the writting and book over all is. When I'm looking for a fantasy book, this is exactly the kind I'm looking for! I just love everything about these books. The characters are so complex. Especially Jacks. He infuriates me and confuses me and yet he's a precious cinnamon roll that I just want to protect. I won't go into spoilers but there's a scene where he shows how kind and sweet and lovey he can be and it made me melt. Then he turned into his usual ass-hat self and I couldn't help but role my eyes. WHY CANT YOU JUST ADMIT YOUR FEELINGS?! ...more

I wouldn't even call this horror! Perhaps had I read Jande Eyre previously, I would have enjoyed this more. But to me, all this was was a romance soap opera with a Supernatural twist. If that's your thing then I say go for it. But this was just not for me. This was not it! And I'm so so bummed too because I had such high expectations for this one. I found myself bored and rushing through the story just to get it over with. And there were several romance scenes that I couldn't help but roll my eyes at. And the characters! Oh my gosh, the characters were SO unbelievably one detentions. This story just really had no meat to it. Apparently I'm the minority either this opinion. So please don't let this review keep you from picking this up. But if you have similar reading tastes as me, I would advise skipping this one, sadly......more
