Basically it’s a world where cats and humans have reversed roles. Cats work, drive and have pet human men! The men are naked, domesticated, little pets who are fully dependent on their cat owners. They’re fed tiny Hungry Man meals, taken to special Man hospitals and strays are sent to Man shelters. In this story Steve the Cat is down on his luck and pretty depressed. He’s irresponsible in general. He watches his friends Man and almost loses him. Then he loses his job and loses his own Man. The story itself is a bit anticlimactic but the mannerisms and actions of the Cats and Men are what make the book. Overall it’s a fun read. 3.5 stars...more

Funny, dark and sometimes even reprehensible this book was amazing. I love everything about this. The dark, horned, Teacher that’s all angles and shadows who’s paired with the light, young, innocent girl who is literally soft and squishy is perfect. Teacher’s patience is never ending. That much is already obvious and his capacity for love is inordinately more than what humans seem to expect from his kind. I love Nagabe’s artwork too. It’s able to show so much feeling even without any color. I don’t read many Japanese manga style books so that took a little getting used to but once I got the hang of it I zoomed through this book. I completely adored it!!! The one thing that kills me about graphic novels and mangas is that they almost always end on a hardcore cliffhanger! This one totally did! It’s not bad. I totally expected it and it makes me want the second one that much more but oh god the torture!!!! One other thing I really liked about this book was that a key piece of info was revealed in the beginning of the book. This was a nice surprise so that you weren’t left wondering about every aspect of the story for the whole length of the book. I find that lots of graphic novels tend to drag out even the smallest details at times. This way you had a bit of the puzzle but still had a ton more to solve. Ok enough rambling from me. I’m finding it more and more confusing and the flip flopping around dimensions and times is messing with my head to a point where I don’t really care what’s happening. Like where has KJ been? Who the fuck cares because if I have to try to think about why there are not 2 but 3 Erin’s and one of them has a giant water bear/ tardigrade on her tail my fucking head is going to explode. What’s the point of this story? If anyone knows please tell me. Spoilers welcome!!! Spoilers all the damn way. All the way to the end because I don’t have the patience for this shit and now that I’ve started reading it I need to know. I can’t just stop like a normal person. It’s so weird and nonsensical that I absolutely need to see how this plays out even if it kills me and I need a bottle of klonopin to do it. So again spoilers welcome. Save me some time and stress. Let me know the whole point of the Paper Girls universe page by page, detail by detail like I’m old boring adult Megan having the future explained to me by young enlightened futuristic Megan who knows the fate of us all (and how many dogs I’m actually gonna have to walk to make that special buck to put me over the edge into that billionaire bracket!) Anywhooo the art is still pretty with all its bright eighties hypercolors. Maybe I’ll have an off the shoulder mid-drift showing t-shirt made with an airbrushed tardigrade on it in classic 80s tropical fuchsias, oranges and lime greens. I can even pair it with some fluorescent yellow Napoleon Dynamite style moon boots to really complete the look. Ok enough already. Now I don’t even know what I’m talking about. I don’t know what decade or dimension I’m in or sure as Hell reading about. I should probably just quit this sad review while I’m ahead or at least while I’m still coherent and uses actual words even if much of it doesn’t make sense. Signing off.
