Wallace Thurman originally published this story in 1929 and it is definitely one to be called, “Magnetizing.” From the very first page, I became so intrigued with this author’s straightword narrative of Emma Lou. This is an interesting novel to be remembered regarding colorism: How people can suffer from colorism, internalize colorism, how colorism can be perpetuated also. Oh, there is more…

Tortilla Flats is a small town above Monterey, California. With this novel, John Steinbeck has once again flawlessly written a masterful piece of Art. Readers come to know this town as a place where a group of Mexican-American people who call themselves “paisanos” live drinking, stealing, and you name it. But, of course this author adds so much more as Enlightenment for Readers to learn for a Lifetime ...more

Linda Sue Park has written a superb Middle school aged book with ‘A Long Walk To Water.’ This is the true story of Salva Dut who became famously known as one of the “Lost Boys of Sudan.”
There is another story of young Nya, in 2008, that interfaces with Salva’s Journey in 1985 and both are bearing to survive to find clean water. This author throws readers a nice ironic moment with the workers (in Nya’s village) and the same pond. Very Nice..
This story continues as an Inspiration to the World, making our ideas into Reality. And, I love how much Impact Salva made for so many people.
After reading the printed copy, I just needed to also listen to the audiobook. I enjoyed the drum beats and music that bring the Feel of Africa throughout this read. Lastly, Salva’s words are so very appreciated in so many ways. Thank YOU.

I initially read this back in high school with other great literature pieces from William Faulkner as well. Even after all these years, I still felt so sad for Jody. But, my love for Steinbeck's literature has a way of soothing a reader's soul, Exquisitely.
2023 is Ending Phenomenally with another Historical Classic on the list!

This is my fifth novel by John Steinbeck and each new read continues to enliven my Love for his historical classics. This is still weighing heavily upon me. So, just some quick words… If you are a reader that has not ever taken an Experience through one of his novels, I strongly recommend reading at least one. His Beautiful novel, “Tortilla Flat” was the last one I read by this author and just like that one… this one has left me in Deep thoughts, sad, but I Delighted to see one of my favorite scriptures in this novel (above). As well as others.

I can honestly say the countless examples of Steinbeck's verbal irony is the reason I enjoyed this Touching novel. John Steinbeck should be on Everyone's Tbr list.

“Many of the folks in Ours still carried with them a broken-mirror self they were figuring out how to piece together.”
Ours is a small town for freed slaves. This refuge for these slaves cannot be found on the map nor can be accessible to unwelcome visitors. This town was founded by Saint, a conjure woman. Readers will be thrilled to see the technique used with stones to “Charm” travelers away.
My initial read by Phillip B. Williams and after reading chapter 1, I understood this was a novel that would just reel me all into the pages. I was so engulfed by this novel… The route this novel is written is SO Mesmerizing!
