So that was the fourth and final part of the Small Spaces series by Katherine Arden, and while this one was better than #3, it was not my favourite. I guess that the novelty and scary-ness of #1 was hard to beat. This book really tries again, by including clowns (I hate clowns), but the storyline is similar to the other books, so it is quite predictable. I also found the writing repetitive and choppy compared to the author's other books. Entertaining, but if I want to reread anything by this author, it would definitely be the Winternight trilogy....more

What a great resource. I have read the Lord of the Rings and many other works by Tolkien many times, including the History of Middle Earth series, so for me there was no real new information or insights. I do recommend this book to people who pick up the Lord of the Rings for the first time, to really use it as intended, as a reading companion. It clarifies things that can be confusing during the first read. It is really like a dictionary, so what could have improved is some extra info explaining the LOTR appendices....more

I admit for me it was hard to get into, since in the previous Osten Ard books I was never really interested in the immortals (Norns/Sithi). The humans and trolls were just so much more relatable to me. But after maybe a hundred pages, I got really into the story of the Brothers of the Wind from the viewpoint of Changeling Servant Pamon Kes. Ofcourse, it was the writing that really drew me in. This is a prequel to the original Memory, Sorrow & Thorn series and describes the events that happened between the brothers Hakatri and Ineluki before Ineluki "became" the Storm King. Now I want to know even more!...more

The realms Lisette had to get through were very imaginative and they were well described, I could really imagine being there as well. The book is well written, the story flows well, especially the second half of the book. The end leaves a lot of things open, so I hope there will be a follow up! I think the end role of Xavier, Desmond & the money needed some more closure and attention. Other than that, definitely recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC. Opinions given are my honest thoughts....more

This is another typical Tad Williams book, quite long but wonderfully written and great character development. In this part we learn more about the Norns and Sithi and the intension of the Norns to start a war that will eliminate the mortals. In the Hayholt some exciting surprises happen and Princess Lillia has quite an adventure! King Simon and Queen Miriamele have a rough time.. I don't want to spoil it so I won't elaborate, but I loved reading this part of the series and it really got me sitting on the edge of my seat.
The only thing I miss is the beautiful Michael Whelan artwork that was featured on the other books in the series.. but maybe I just need to get used to this!...more

To be honest I only bought this because of the cover. I had no idea what this book was about and I'd never heard of it before. It did not disappoint! It's a beautiful story of friendship set in a magical sea world. Some parts of it were pretty hard to follow for me, but rereading always helps for those chapters. The end was satisfying enough but I do wish it was a little more edgy. The writing is beautiful and the descriptions vivid. Happy I picked this up!...more
