It’s really no surprise that City of Spies is one of my favorite books. So when I saw he was releasing a new series, I knew it would be just as amazing as his other works, and I’m so glad I was right.
In The Sherlock Society, we follow two siblings, Zoe and Alex, and their friends Lina and Yadi. They have just finished school and are ready for their summer vacation. However, Zoe is angry with their mother because she won’t let her attend a pricey summer camp, and Alex just wants to have a nice summer with his sister and friends. When Zoe comes up with the brilliant idea of starting a detective agency to earn some money, they all eagerly jump on board.
Their first case is the missing treasure of Al Capone. I’m going to be honest—I didn’t know much about Al Capone except that he was a famous gangster imprisoned in Alcatraz. But I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about his history, and following the clues as Alex, Zoe, Lina, and Yadi discovered them was so exciting that I couldn’t stop reading.
The dynamics between the group were really the gem of the book. Every single character contributes something unique, and Alex and Zoe’s grandpa was a delightful addition—he was so much fun.
I honestly can't wait for the next book. I’m already in love with these characters and eager for more.

Gryla, is a witch, but she hates it, while the whole world busy with Christmas celebrations year-round, witches only celebrate once a year on Mince Pie Island. Everything changes when Gryla is kidnapped by Merrilee and taken to Humbug, the Christmas capital of the world.
It turns out that Christmas year-round isn’t as fun as it seems, especially because there are severe punishments for anyone who doesn’t celebrate adequately. Merrilee, the daughter of Santa Claus, desperately needs Gryla’s help to stop the Krampus, terrible monsters who enforce Christmas laws.
Sprouts was a well-written story with an amazing plot and charming characters. It’s the perfect book to read under the covers with a nice cup of hot chocolate and a candy cane—though perhaps not a sprout-flavored one

Eve is an orphan who is running away; she hates her orphanage and wants nothing more than to escape. Just as she is in the middle of the forest trying to flee, she meets the Pumpkin King. He is immediately in awe of Eve because she doesn’t seem to be scared of him. He decides to adopt her and bring her to his world, where night is day and witches, vampires, and scarecrows are all its inhabitants.
The relationship between the Pumpkin King and Eve is so adorable. They were both very lonely before meeting each other, and it was truly delightful to read about this found family. The story was very beautifully written.
I hope this becomes a series because, honestly, I finished the book wanting more about this world and its characters.

Micah is the main character in this book, she and her mom are moving from the house they share with her grandfather whom she affectionately calls PopPop, Micah isn’t dealing very well with the move and one day when she’s riding her bike she ends up at Finch House, the haunted house of the neighborhood, the only thing she knows about it is that her PopPop has asked her to never enter it, but now she finds out Finch House isn’t abandoned anymore, there’s new people living in it, one of them Theo and Paprika (the cutest dog).
After a few confusions with her PopPop, Micah ends up being even more curious about Finch House, especially when she finds out theres a lot of kids who went missing in there.
Finch House was a solid debut, it has a well thought plot and freshen out characters, but I had a few problems with the pacing, it was a bit off, Micah meets someone in one of the chapters and the very next she finds out they are the villain, everything happens so fast there’s no time to connect with the characters and the happenings.
The end felt a bit rushed but overall it was a nice book, not a lot of scary scenes so younger kids should be fine reading it.

RThis book was so much fun! I always have a good time reading Chris's books. He's so fun and inventive; it's very easy to immerse myself in his words.
Roswell Johnson Saves the World! was no different, it had an array of lovable characters and a plot so interesting that I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the last page.
In this book, Roswell, our protagonist, is obsessed with everything alien. However, after a bad day at school, he decides to give everything up and just forget about the mysteries of the universe. Yet, he is then abducted by the very aliens he’s obsessed with and embarks on a great adventure where he meets all sorts of planets and aliens.
This book also deals with a lot of important subjects like injustice and racism. I love how Chris doesn’t shy away from those topics. It's very important to introduce these topics to younger people, and Chris does a wonderful job at it.
I really hope there’s a second book, I will definitely be reading it.

In A Gallery of Rogues we learn a bit more of the other branch of the Swifts family, the Martinets, who all lives in Paris.
After a valuable painting is stolen from Swift House by a mysterious french group, Shenanigan, Phenomena and Maelstrom all embark in a great adventure that leads them to Paris and to the hotel of their cousins.
The mystery was so engaging and the way everything came together was really satisfying, it was great reading about the old characters again and it was even better to get to know the new ones, I always have the greatest of fun with these books and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Vin has been going from one magical school to another for years, her magic doesn’t seem to obey her and always puts her in trouble until she ends up expelled, but this time it’s different because the school board gets involved and sends her to Last Hope, a school for magical delinquents and if she gets expelled from this school she will be banned from any further education, magical or otherwise.
Vin, at first, is extremely nervous to start a new school that’s literally her last hope but she soon discovers that Last Hope, it not like any other place she’s ever been, the headmistress seems to understand Vin struggles and encourages her to become her better self and of course Vin makes friends that help her along the way.
This was a very strong beginning of the series and I can’t wait to see where Nicki takes us next.

Lilian is the new student of Shadowhall Academy, a boarding school rumored to be haunted, and right on her first day she got prove of it when a weird knocking on the wall wakes her up in the middle of the night, with the help of her three roommates, Lilian starts to investigate the creepy story of the Academy and the supposed ghosts that haunted it.
I loved the dynamic between Lilian and her roommates, I always enjoy a story with strong friendship and the author was able to do it with perfection.
The plot was amazingly spooky, honestly there were times I had to stop reading it because I was getting a bit too scared but that just made me love this book even more.
I think it’s going to be a series and I’m excited about the next story.

Bitsy’s father is Magicalia was everything I was expecting and more, it was filled with magic, adventure, friendship and of course magical creatures.
Bitsy’s father is kidnapped by an evil lady who’s convince he has a book that can lead to an ancient artifact known as Arkwright Gyrowheel a long lost object that can help summon powerful magicores.
Magicores are creatures that are conjured from different emotions but Bitsy had no idea of their existence until her father was taken, now she and her best friend Kosh are throw into this brand new world and they need to figure it all out if they want to save Bitsy father.
I loved how Jennifer made Bitsy and Kosh search for the Gyrowheel take place in all different countries, it was amazing seeing the Taj Mahal and the Versailles Palace.
And of course the star of the book was the magicores, the illustrations were so well done and really helped me picture the creatures, my favorite by far was the Hix, so cute!
I truly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
