The premise was interesting: create seven characters and develop them over time. So the book is a chronology of Dogan's seven female characters, and his artistic journey. It's not cheesecake stuff, either. He's done some good character concept designs.
Dogan was critical of himself, pointing out problems that I wouldn't have noticed. I found that instructive and nothing at all like false modesty. He was also quick to point out what he thought worked well. It was interesting to see how the characters evolved into their final forms. By the book's end they had changed and Dogan's technique was clearly improved.
My only complaint has to do with the physical presentation. The pictures themselves are great. But the commentary and line art are not matched to the finished piece. So there was a lot of flipping back and forth. Also, like almost every Udon art book I own, the binding cracked right when I opened the book. For what they charge, they could put a little more effort into the physical state of these books....more

While there are some sketches in here, it is mostly finished art. Stevens' work done in charcoal on toned paper is amazing. There are a few full color pieces, which clearly demonstrate Stevens ability. He was not just a comic artist, but also a fine artist.
I can't claim to be a fan of the Rocketeer. There is some of that in this book. But Stevens shows how much more he was capable of doing in this book. I highly recommended this collection for anyone interested in both comic and realist art. There's a great blend of both in this book. Your time will be well spent studying these pages....more

You've likely seen all these pictures before if you're a fan of 40K. It's still a nice collection in one place if you're looking for visual inspiration. Even if you're not a 40K fan, you might still enjoy the dark and bleak depictions of mankind 40,000 years from now.
My one complaint is that none of the plates have any information on who did the artwork or where the art was originally published. John Blanche's work is immediately recognizable. But there are other artists represented who remain anonymous. This book is about the pictures only....more
