Is intelligence necessarily a good thing?! This book shows that everything comes with a price, shows how human nature can be so cruel, shows that intelligence do come with a price and it is devastating actually.
Here is a short personal story: I was always smarter than kids of my age and more mature, I even used to dismiss some of their acts as "childish" and "stupid" but reflecting back after reading this, I may have realized that I was the real fool at those times... I mean we were children and it was our job to be childish and silly. That developmental gap used to give me hard times interacting with other people and that's why this was a very personal read.
This book is all about the main character development and that is reflected even in the writing style and punctuation, an idea I found fascinating. So this book can be interpreted in many different ways and it will surely leave you with something additional after finishing it. Just like Wonder, I think everyone should read it as it will change your look for many things, no wonder it is a mandatory read at some places.

“Ah, but my dear sir, the why must never be obvious. That is the whole point.”
It is no secret that I am a fan of Agatha! The idea of a lady writing mystery/ murder novels almost a decade ago and they are so smart and good is just mind-blowing! I was in the mood to read something by the queen of mystery in the second half of 2018 and I finally did this only days away from 2019.
I only picked this because I bought the book on sales and not for any particular reason! This is by Poirot which may be the most unique detective ever!
“Rest assured,” said Hercule Poirot. “I am the best!”
As usual, the story is interesting, kind of hard to guess because Agatha likes to keep some clues hidden till the big reveal. I also like the format of Agatha’s books, the chapters are kind of short and makes sense.
I don’t have much to say about this one, I was fascinated by the reveal although it was a little bit over the top but at the end Poirot mentions that he doesn’t have a proof and that it is all just his dedications which saves the day!
Summary: While this is not Agatha’s best book, it was so enjoyable and easy to read. Poirot is as queer and funny as always! I think it is a good place to start for those who never read anything by Agatha and a good read for all of Poirot’s fans....more

🌟 I don’t know if Lauren is losing her magic, looking at Lauren’s books I can see that they have 300K and 400K ratings but the newer releases barely makes it to 50K! I don’t know what I am missing and one of the reasons I started this series was to investigate more!
🌟 Replica was a good book, not less and not more. I also started it because I loved the idea of a flip book that you can read from either side and from either POVs and the story would still make sense. While in book 1 there was much Overlap the POVs in this book felt more distinct and separate. They come together beautifully but I still enjoyed Replica a bit more.
🌟 The writing style is OK and same goes for the characters but I had a problem with the pacing and the plot. This was a >500 pages book but nothing much happens! I expected more action, more drama and a bit more spice but I was reading waiting for the next big thing that I sadly didn’t receive.
🌟 I also like medical stuff in books and this involves cloning and human experiments, a thing that I think a lot about as a medical student. Much of the medical advance was after the WW2 due to human experiments and we wouldn’t have made it to this point without it. It is not like I am encouraging it but it was like a turning point in human’s history and thus this provides an ethical dilemma to discuss!
🌟 Summary: I liked the first book in this duology a bit more (Replica) because this was slow and not much happens in it. I wanted more from the writing, the characters and specially the plot. I enjoyed the moral issues it presents though. ...more

“That was the first rule of demonology: make certain the demon’s incentives align with your own.”
🌟 I have been in the mood for a Sanderson story lately for an unknown reason! I didn’t want to continue the second Mistborn trilogy yet so I was going to discover his other works as Elantris and Warbreaker. When I saw this Gift from Brandon, I thought it was a sign, it was also the perfect time to read this. This is a short story so that was also a good thing because his other books are huge.
🌟 The first thing I touched upon starting this is unsurprisingly the World building which Brandon is a master of. I have never played Magic: The Gathering but you don’t need to before going into this. I believe there will be things that I missed but it was a good experience nonetheless.
🌟 The writing is good but I know this is not Sanderson at his best and I guess authors as him are better in writing longer stories because it shows their potential and intellectual potential.
🌟 The plot was very expected for me from the first few pages and I don’t know if this is due to reading many Sanderson books or if it was obvious, guess I will never know!
🌟 Summary: I don’t have much to say about this book, guess because of its short length. It had an OK writing, good pacing but was kind of expect able. This is definitely not a new favorite but it does not change the fact that Sanderson is still a fav author of mine! I ended up giving it 3 out of 5 stars!
🌟 Prescription: For fans of Magic: The Gathering game and for those who wants to discover Sanderson style by reading something light....more

“Most people come to New York to be discovered. The rest of us come here to hide”
🌟 Since I read “It Ends with Us” by CoHo I became an instant fan and wanted to discover her other works, and although I read all her latest releases after that book (without Merit, All your perfects) that novel is still my favorite book by her.
🌟 I didn’t want to read Verity at first because I wasn’t getting the rush that I experienced while reading It Ends With Us! The synopsis sounded intriguing but I thought that I have read similar things before and wanted to skip it. A few days after the release of the book, Reviews started going around and all were positive reviews! The book is 250 pages long so I said “why not?!” at last and started reading it.
🌟 WTF Colleen??? You are supposed to write fluffy romances with important messages. I didn’t expect something that dark and creepy. This is like the next “Gone Girl”! I don’t think I read anything in the “Suspense Romance” genre but it was a great experience.
🌟 The writing was good as usual but it had a different voice and that was important for the story. I never expected Colleen to venture into this territory and I never expected the outcome to be this good either. Colleen proved herself as a formidable author in different subgenres with this.
“As much as I try to forget where it all started to go wrong, I was cursed with this mind that never forgets a single thing.”
🌟 The characters were realistic and creepy (How many times do I have to say that this book is creepy (Because it is!). I found it hard to root for any of them because the twists and atmosphere makes it hard to trust anyone!
🌟 Plot wise, it was also eerie and so gripping. I put a lot of theories in mind and I came very close to the actual twist but Colleen did it differently and it is hard to explain what I mean without spoilers so I am going to skip the explanation here. I also liked that the MC was an author and that Colleen gave us some insight into writing and publishing. It was great to know these things from one of the big names in the industry.
🌟 Everyone were talking about the ending and I think it was a strong ending too! It was scary and I still don’t know what to think because this is the kind of books that effs you up and leaves you thinking about it for while!
🌟 Summary: This is not the typical CoHo romance book. It is even an indie work and not by CoHo’s usual publisher and that made it even more brilliant. I think it is better to go into this without knowing much which is my general rule when reading thrillers. Don’t worry though because big chances are that you will enjoy this. I ended up giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
🌟 Prescription: For fans of Gillian Flynn and darker thrillers....more

“Honour can be lost a dozen times, and regained. Life can only be lost once, and never regained.”
🌟 After 3 years of reviewing books, I developed a hunch for the books I will like. It is like the clinical sense in medicine, something that is gained with experience and trial. I sometimes try to give books chances even if I feel I won’t like them. They mostly end up being disappointing so I learned to follow my gut even more.
🌟 A couple of weeks ago, I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw the cover of this book and I had a strange feeling. I felt that I NEEDED to read this book ASAP! The post was a chance to get an ARC and review this book. It looks like the stars aligned that moment and everything went perfect, the second day I had my E-ARC waiting in my inbox.
🌟 Another fact about me; I take a glimpse on the first few pages and read the prologue whenever I get a new book. I was intrigued super quickly! I fell in love with the writing style by reading a few lines.
🌟 When I finally started the book, I didn’t know what to expect. If it was going to be as good as the first page then I was on a wild ride and I was so ready for it. But I haven’t read anything by the author previously and so I lowered my expectations.
🌟 The writing style did not disappoint and it was everything I wanted and more! It was funny, emotional, deep, relatable and easy to follow.
“Some fight for honour, and some for reward. Some for glory, and others for a cause. Some fight for freedom, from tyranny and hate. And some fight for love, not for a person but a name.
With death as their guide, their companion and goal. They cross all Hosa, spirit, flesh, and soul. Hounded by demons, from the pages of lore. What starts with a whisper, must end with a roar.”
🌟 The characters were so fleshed out and I was thinking about my favorite and the answer was Itami Cho, Iron Gut Chen Lu, Zhihao, Bingwei Ma, and Roi Astara. In another language, this was one of the very few books were I like all the characters without exceptions! The characters are introduced gradually and there is time for development for all of them, I did not like all of them immediately but they certainly grow on you as you progress through the book. The characters are so diverse too and they have different personalities and characteristics that make them unique. I felt that this was a more mature version of Six of Crows –Character wise-!!!!
🌟 The world building is awesome, I mean the Asian setting, with its mythologies and the fantastic fantasy world all come together to make it an atmospheric read that is hard to forget!
🌟 Plot wise it was perfect, the thing that I did after I saw the cover was checking the synopsis and it was so cool and new. I have never read anything like this before and thus it has bonus points for creativity! The heroes are working for a second chance to live under a SHINIGAMI!! HOW COOL IS THAT!!! The pacing was just excellent for the story, the last few chapters in the book were literally the end of me. I felt that it was illogical to name a book “Never Die” when it made me die. There was no romance (Which is a change from the clichéd romance in 90% of books), there was just action and drama and important themes, all packed in less than 300 pages! And it is a standalone which is way too perfect for me!
🌟 Summary: It is always hard to review good books because there is not much to say about them. But this book had perfect characters, perfect pacing and world building and perfect plot twists! This all made it deserve a place as my 8th 5 stars rating this year among 145 other books that I read this year. Once again, my hunch was true! Another fact: apparently this is self published which blows my mind and I certainly will check the author’s other works!
🌟 Prescription: Do yourself a favor and read this book if you like fantasy! I can guarantee that it won’t disappoint.

“The best bridge between despair and hope is a good night’s sleep.”
🌟 I am still on a quest to discover more non-fiction books, that started last year and I am willing to continue this year. So when Tala (Who also happens to be a medical student in my class) recommended this, I knew that I had to read it!
🌟 I also had the same first question that most of us will think of: How a ~370 pages book is filled with things on sleep?! This book answered many questions that I had thought about in my long sleepless nights. It explains why do we need to sleep, the evolutionary role of sleep, why do we dream and what are the benefits of dreaming, Why do we as teenagers and new adults like to go to sleep late while adults go early, why do you feel tired after you pull an all-nighter but then gradually get energized! And one of my favorite things is explaining why we like to keep one foot out of the bed at night!!
🌟 What is cooler about this is that it does so in a simple language that everyone can understand. No need to be in the medical field to do so. If you are interested in sleep then you should read this!
🌟 One of my professors once told me that people like to view the world in what they are best at. So a doctor will see everything as physiology and pathology, an engineer will see things as equations, numbers and drawings, a chemist will announce the secret of life as Alchemy. So a sleep scientist will explain everything by -you guessed it- Sleep! As much as I enjoyed the book, I thought it was trying too much sometimes! There was a graph depicting the relationship between Obesity and sleep and it shows that through the years we have been sleeping less and thus becoming more obese. Which has a certain truth to it but we can not ignore the changes in food and lifestyles too!
🌟 Also the author would tell you that if you don’t sleep well (I assure you that 99% of us don’t) then you will get Alzheimer, cancers, obesity, diabetes and all sort of things… If you find this idea uncomfortable then you may want to skip this.
🌟 Summary & Prescription: I really enjoyed this book as much as I expected to. It is kind of scientific but still awesome to read. I like that the author provided concrete evidence -Although I want to discuss some things further more- through the book and that it was not all theories. I recommend this for all of you looking for a non-fiction book and are interested in Sleep!

“If a man has lost a leg or an eye, he knows he has lost a leg or an eye; but if he has lost a self—himself—he cannot know it, because he is no longer there to know it.”
🌟 I have been intrigued by this book’s title as soon as I first heard it. I thought it was a fiction book but then discovered that it is Non-fiction and I decided to read it this year as part of my challenge to read some non-fiction books.
🌟 Then, I discovered that it was written by a neurologist and it features neurological disorders. I had a hate relationship with Neurology and its disorder in the first two years in medicine. I then decided that I had enough and that I want to understand it more. I went back to the basics, took Neuroanatomy and Neuroscience courses, aced them and I became yet another fan of neurology!!!
🌟 The human brain is one of the most intriguing things ever and is also one of the biggest mysteries of the universe, and although our understanding of it is way better than decades ago, we still haven’t scratched the surface –at least for me-.
🌟 The disorders this book includes are interesting as the man who mistook his wife for a hat literally, Phantom limbs in which people can feel pain and sensations in their amputated limbs, Seizures that made a man has super smelling, the twins who can’t do simple arithmetic but can tell you how many sticks are stacked together just by a simple glance and more!! Some of the cases were not very interesting but they were mostly short cases so it was OK!
🌟 I can’t say Dr.Oliver is the greatest author because his writing is full of medical jargon and may be hard to understand for non-medical readers. He assumes that we have a good knowledge in many things as opposed to the book I am currently reading (Which discusses sleep and the language makes much more sense for all readers). Dr.Oliver’s language is like a text-book/ scientific language more befitting for teaching than a general book.
🌟 Summary and Prescription: I have a long history with Neurology so this was a mini challenge for me to read. The language is not very easy (But still can be understood) for the general population. There are some really interesting cases here for anyone who is interested in the human brain and it’s disorders. I decided to give this one a 3.5 out of 5 stars!...more

“Worst is the one who knows better and does nothing.”
🌟 In the previous books, the start would always be “relatively” slow and then the pacing picks up till it becomes faster and better. This time, the author started powerfully, with a fast and great thing, a WAR!! I think this book had the best beginning in this series but unfortunately, it was tamed a little bit in the middle.
🌟 There was a 3rd POV in this book and I am not going to spoil it because it was creative and is better to be left a surprise. I am not sure if I was a big fan of the writing style of that character because it took me a while to get used to it and it was confusing at first!
🌟 Not to be confused with the general writing style, which is as good as ever!
“Choices may be unbelievably hard but they’re never impossible. To say you have no choice is to release yourself from responsibility and that’s not how a person with integrity acts.”
🌟 I think the world building and characters are as realistic as ever! These are surely things that I won’t forget quickly. I just didn’t like the continuous Bickering between President Prentiss (one of the smartest “Villains” I have ever read)and Mistress Coyle. It was one of the reason that made the middle part less interesting.
🌟 The Plot is great and there are twists and drama and darkness as usual that will destroy you in the best possible way!
🌟 Summary: A great continuation of the series that is almost guaranteed not to disappoint you. With a new POV, new twists and new developments that will leave your mouth hanging open! I ended up giving this book and the trilogy as a whole 4 out of 5 stars!...more

🌟 I respect Schwab’s ability to excel in all components of the stories in her books. This Savage Song had a great plot, Vicious was all about the characters, City of Ghosts is an all round book for younger readers and this series has amazing world-building.
🌟 After enjoying the first book and everyone hyping this book for me and saying it gets better I got so excited! I thought that I was going to read my next 5 stars book but I just didn’t! Victoria is one of my favorite authors but something was missing in this book and I know exactly what it was!
🌟 To be honest, nothing was missing and that is the problem. It was overstuffed with too much details and the thing I wanted to be better was the plot. The plot was slow and not much was happening till part 4 and then I thought it would get better now, it was slightly better but once again I wanted more and that didn’t happen till the last 150 Pages. I felt that this book could have been easily 250 pages instead of 500!!
🌟 I still think the world building is cool and I enjoy it and how it expands. The characters are also very unique and memorable. I like Kell, Lila and most importantly Holland whose chapters were the best!
🌟 Summary: I think the book was good but I expected more action and a faster pacing! It still has great characters and amazing world-building but the plot was lacking. I hope the last book redeems this one and is better. I am giving this one 3.5 out of 5 stars....more

🌟 It has been a week since I finished this book and I have been thinking about it the whole week. The short and direct answer is that it is a good book, but I certainly think it could have been better. I will break down my thoughts for this book which will help me giving it a final star rating.
🌟 The first thing that I liked, also the first thing that captured my attention was -you’re right- the writing style. Natasha has a magical prose and I liked many quotes in this one.
🌟 The world building started good, I like learning how these worlds function as a whole, how the common people and royalty are affected. The book started by explaining the mythology but it didn’t expand that much further.
🌟 The plot was good, I can’t say that I was surprised. It was enjoyable but I think I already read it before in other books and in other ways.
🌟 The characters were probably my biggest problem with this series. I wasn’t a very big fan of Lei and some of the minor characters were developed even more. I like slow burn romance, but I think the romance here was kind of forced upon the story and I wasn’t convinced. Also, This Emperor may be one of the fluffiest emperors I have ever seen. OK, he was bad, he raped girls, he’s disgusting but I didn’t feel that he is powerful at all. I expected more from all of the characters.
🌟 Summary: I am pretty sure that this is a story that will get many fans and success and that is good. I think the author is a nice person and she deserves it. I expected something a bit different and a bit better from all aspects except the writing. I am going to give the second book a chance and I am gibing this one a 3.5 out of 5 stars!...more

🌟 Time to confess that I primarily requested this book because of it’s cover and because I thought it was a standalone (We need more Fantasy Standalones). I liked the synopsis initially but after a few weeks of requesting this I started to have second thoughts and started to lose interest in the synopsis!
🌟 That being said, the book had a good start so I thought it was worth giving a chance! I was bored after a few chapters, but then was interested again and tbh I didn’t consider DNFing it so it must have been good.
🌟 The world building was good too and although I had some questions at first and some things that were not convincing for me medical wise, it was explained later which both helped convincing me and adding to my knowledge. Bonus points for that!
🌟 Plot wise, I felt like I have seen the twist and I had expectations after knowing just a few things. It was entertaining but it never blew my mind! That being said, I can’t say that I wanted to know what was going to happen and how will things unfold. I wanted to see if my theories were true. I may give credit to all the books that I have read before for this. I actually liked the romance way more than I expected to and that may have been the best part! It was kind of typical but the world building gives it a whole new context which makes it interesting if you take the time to think about it!!!! I am sure many readers will miss the point and will criticize it but that’s why it is OK to have different opinions.
🌟 The characters were average YA characters, I am pretty sure that they will be among the characters I forget after a few months. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I like my characters to be more distinct and more unique!
🌟 Summary: I may have been disappointed by the fact that this is a duology because this book is huge and it could have been shorter! I went with lower expectations and it was slow at first but the story picks up as you progress and becomes more captivating. The book didn’t blow my mind but it exceeded my expectations and I may consider continuing this series!

“Covering up women means men aren’t willing to work on inner purification. That’s laziness. We can’t have that woman, so cover her up. It’s like when they close restaurants here in Ramadan. We can’t eat, so close down all the restaurants. Or we can’t drink alcohol, so don’t allow bars.”
🌟 I didn’t know what to expect from this book to be honest. I like the synopsis, I like that it is in an Arabian community but didn’t know what to expect beyond that!
🌟 The book is written from multiple POV & the format is creative –I like- but it was hard to get it at first. Well, it wasn’t really hard but I thought it is a casual multiple POV book but the catch is that once a POV is finished we don’t go back to it, so it goes from person 1 to 2 to 3… etc
🌟 The first chapter started good but then everything was happening so quickly, like extremely quickly and though I like fast pacing, it was too fast, I couldn’t relate to the characters and get everything. I was hasty to judge it because as mentioned I didn’t know the format, chapter 1 is like a quick glimpse into many characters’ lives and then you get to enjoy the story from each Person’s POV!
🌟 I was impressed by the writing style which both mixed a good English writing with the Arab society essence which is kind of hard to balance! I saw some Arabic authors with bad English writing and many grammatical/ punctuation and pronunciations errors. But you can tell that the Author here mastered the language and that it was well edited.
🌟 I feel that I am obliged to mention that these deals with heavy topics and focuses on diverse and minor groups in the Arab world. Like Gay men who are forced to marry women, people who have affairs out of marriage, some taboos in the community, the abusive husband, those who makes the religion bad by using verses and Quran out of context and according to their own merits. These are all things that exist and we try to cover them as a conservative community, I think light should be shed upon these problems rather than hiding them till there is an explosion! I want people to understand that not all what Muslims do equal Islam and that we are human and do wrong things so blame us and not our religion!
🌟 There wasn’t like one plot that we follow through the whole book but rather than multiple short stories that are intertwined and are connected as is usual in the Eastern world. I also do believe in the notion that our deeds do hunt us even after a while.
🌟 Summary: Basically a book with good representation of the minor groups in the Arab world, with many Arabic thoughts and quotes. If you are trying to learn more about this community then this book is for you! The writing was good and it was fast paced, I only wish that we had one larger story than the shorter ones as I wanted to know more about those characters....more

“In this world of numbness and information overload, the ability to feel, my boy, is a rare gift indeed.”
🌟 Yay, I was exactly the 60,000th thousand person to rate this!!
I guess you know the drill by this point, I usually compare the second book in a series with the first and see what improved and what didn’t.
🌟 I didn’t know what to expect after the ending of book 1 so my Ask was if I will enjoy this as much and the Answer is apparently yes, it was a very good book.
🌟 The writing is as good as book 1. These books are large (500-650 Pages) but the good news is that they feel like 300-400 pages instead. Patrick’s writing is easy to follow, full of suspense and can be poetic at the same time.
“We are the choices we make. And have to make. We aren’t anything else.”
🌟 The Pacing in book 1 was faster which is always a plus for me, the pace here is slower but not too slow so it is still enjoyable.
🌟 There weren’t many new characters but the characters we know developed and I expected the change in some characters which was awesome and devil!
🌟 Every one were talking about the plot twists in this book, I saw most of them before they happened and specially at the ending I was like what if this and that happened, that would be terrific and guess what? It did happen 😀 I liked how this was much darker than book 1 and some of the scenes were graphic so beware, I don’t think it is a suitable book for younger children. I discovered lately that I really love darker reads just because they are more realistic, the real world is not sunshine and flowers!
🌟 The world also expanded and I think we are getting more of it in the next book.
🌟 Summary: The Ask and the Answer was as almost as good as book 1, if you liked book 1 then the series is definitely worth continuing. It was slower paced, darker and more twisted. The story is balanced and I can’t wait to know how it ends....more
