I have read 8 books by DeGordick now, and have only not completely raved about only one of them....this was a great and terribly creepy tale of murder, ghosts and redemption.
When Father and Husband Mark comes home late from work one night and finds his family horribly and gruesomely slaughtered, he has no idea for what reason this could have happened....but then, he finds it. Upon the front steps he sees what looks like a tri fold flyer for an advertisement for the strangest of places.......Hollows Cove Lodge. What in the hell is this here for; and WHO could have left this. With having to grasp reality very quickly about what has happened to his family he sees it. His son's ghost......... Is Mark being drawn to Hollow's Cove for a reason? Is the answer there to what happened? And what and or who is 'The Black Warden'?
I love the way that Jeff DeGordick writes horror and his execution of things that we just don't think of on a daily basis.......DO ghosts exists? is horror real? I highly recommend this quick read of 'A Haunting at Hollow's Cove'

I LOVED THIS!
I have been reading Horror and classic literature for well over 50 years....and this has got to be one of the BEST coming of age, horrific and beautifully tragic tales that I will place right next to 'Summer of Night', 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' and 'Boys Life'! When I found out after i just finished the audiobook; that the author was a female....it blew my mind! The audio book is listed at just a bit over 4 hours....and in my opinion; this was the ONLY bad thing about it. It was just too damned short! I wanted this tale of 'the monster in the woods' to go on for at least another 3 hours. Being an openly gay man and lover of all things horror, this tale could have been like all the other new crap out there these days, but it wasn't. What WAS the supposed 'flayed creature' that was lurking in the woods? What happened to the 50 plus missing people starting from the 1950's and as young as 5 years old? When you meet H.D. Wards this story took off and just got better and better. These 3 characters of Wards, Mia Rose Ellis and Dorothy May will be 3 that I go back to read their stories again and again. Bravo to the author L.A. Detwiler for this achievement!!! I have no idea where someone quoted this as being 'Homophobic....?' Why? I really don't think that they even read it.
This will be a new book that I praise and highly recommend to anyone who loves a great, creepy as hell, tale of the monster in the woods that eveyone thinks does NOT exist! Loved this.

Leon Kemp's tale of 4 teenaged kids who venture into an old, supposedly haunted and run down home for troubled kids, to get ratings for their Youtube channel is one you are soon to ever (if you are ever even able to) forget.
Colton, V, Riley, and Ethan are 4 of the most completely different; yet so alike teenagers. They love anything to do with the supernatural, reality t.v., social media, ....and horror stories. Their lives are about to change one night when one of them disappears, never to be seen again. Dominick House.....a place that will make you wish that you could just be able to walk away from the scars, both the emotional AND physical of being a kid. This book is creepy, and so perfectly written that will experience what the true horrors of life are all about. I will most definitely re read this book many more times before I leave this earth. HIGHLY recommended to anyone who loves a good, creepy and sometimes even scary, and beautifully told coming of age story.

Ken Eulo was a horror author who was most popular in the 1980's. His covers tended to always have that 'Flowers In The Attic' knock off looks, BUT this is always what made the book buyer pick up author's works back then. I have had this 3 book series in mint condition from the time that they were first released. I read them way back in the day, and I recently picked up the first book and read it and then reviewed it, and I could not wait to read this, which I always thought was the best of the 3. It deals with the continuing story of Chandal who is a young and beautiful woman who is trying to be forced into becoming a devil worshipping witch to a coven in New York City. AND the best part.....it takes place again in 'the Brownstone', which is what this trilogy is referred to. It is a slow burn of a book and it has EXTREMELY SMALL print! But hang in there......it is SO worth it!
Reliving this classic and vintage horror from 1980 was SO worth it! Again! This author really needed to publish more horror in his days. Are you readyReliving this classic and vintage horror from 1980 was SO worth it! Again! This author really needed to publish more horror in his days. Are you ready to see Christ?
It has been since 1981 that I first read this, and I decided to pick it up again this week, since it has been a long time having read anything by Coyne. Wow! I completely forgot how disturbingly graphic and gory this was. I remember when I first read 'The Exorcist' in 1975 and never having thought it was really that scary, I so remember when this book also came out. Seeing the cardboard stand up display in my local B. Dalton Bookseller; I knew I had to read another horror book after reading his 'The Legacy'.
Betty Sue Wadkins at the time of only being 12 years old starts to experience the 5 wounds of Christianity and Jesus Christ himself. Being the daughter in a poor white Appalachian family, her parents do nothing about it. When a catholic priest hears about this now almost 18 year old 'Miracle' child of God; he and a news reporter decide to do a story about this girl....is she really a true divination of God and a true Stigmatic? You decide. The book is actually more terrifying I always thought than the Exorcist. And not really being a religious person, this was very scary.
I highly STILL to this day recommend this vintage, Horror classic! 4.5 drops of blood Warnings: Disturbing sexually violent scenes of child rape, and gore....more

*PLEASE NOTE* With this being a sequel to the authors 2020 coming of age horror book 'Until Summer Comes Along', and though I will NOT be giving away spoilers, I would NOT read this if you have not read the first book. Now onto my review.
I was one of the lucky ones to have gotten an ARC of this book sent to me from Glenn, and this in NO WAY influences this review. All of my book reviews either here or on my BookTube Channel on Youtube; Nightmares, Anyone? are honest and how I felt about the book being reviewed.
It is now 10 years after the summer of 1986 when 15 year old Rocky Zukas first met a mysterious and very beautifully strange girl by the name of November. Now a young adult and working on the Old Orchard Beach fire department, he can tell someone new is in town. He also can tell that someone he knew when he was 15 is also back in town....he feels and knows November is back.
With a new television night time News Documentary about the Beach Night Killer; Gabriel Riley coming out, the town is all busy with people obsessed with the serial killer and his victims. And there are 3 very dark and creepy strangers among them. Their names are Vincent, Fiona, and Kat and they are not your normal tourists. They are vampires.
Rocky still misses and thinks of November all the time, but when he meets Kat she suddenly becomes his new summer obsession. Is there something about her mysterious personality or is Rocky starting another horror and blood filled Summer when he will have to become a vampire killer again? This book was actually better than it's predecessor, and once again this characters story made me tear up once more. Though 25 is NOT the same as when we were 15, however we were still easily taken by someone that we thought was both beautiful and creepy and strangely different. The town of Old Orchard Beach Maine, could easily be any town, and that is what makes these two books SO great! The scenes of bleeding, and turning in this novel is a lot more graphic this time around....but the part that I think I loved the most is how Glenn Rolfe makes them travel. I will not give anything away; but be ready it is so uniquely done, and almost elegantly arousing in a weird way. Is Rocky able to pick up where he and November left off? Who will be the survivors, if any, this time around?
With the story taking place in the 90's it was so cool to go back to owning a Sony Disc Man, and the tunes of Erasure, Depeche Mode and the Motels. And Rolfe takes you back there so easily, that you are never going to forget Rocky, Vincent, Kat, Fiona and especially November. Phenomenal read(s) about those creatures we all fear inside, and I know I am so grateful that they are NOT real. Or ARE vampires real?
Thanks again so much to Glenn Rolfe for letting me pre read this before it's June 11th, 2024 release date. If you can, pick them both up and read them back to back....that is the way to do it! Get ready for some gory ass blood letting. And welcome to Old Orchard Beach; Maine. Highly recommended for that horror lover who is not afraid of BLOOD and bodily horror. I loved this book!.

This book did for rock climbing and hiking, what Cabin Fever for Camping!! Yes, this book is THAT gory and disturbing parts. I listened to the audiobook, and when the narrator was describing the cannibalism scenes or the body torture.....no joke, I actually cringed. I did have a problem with this book though.....the ending did not have a real acceptible (in MY opinion only), well explained reason of why these kids had to perish and be tortured the ways they were. What was the reasoning for all this past violence and torture for all these years?. It will be a LONG LONG time before I ever go to Kentucky though. This is the 7th or 8th book now that I have read that took place there. NOPE!
This could have easily been a full 5 star bleeder for me if it would have had a better ending. Can easily recommend this even with that flaw. Jenny Kiefer will only get better as she releases more.

When 14 year old Richard loses his parents in a horrible accident he is sent to live with his aunt and uncle. When he arrives in the town of Ballantyne he realizes that he is immediately considered an outcast and bully. When the first teen and then a 2nd one goes missing, the local police dept. realize that Richard was the last to see both of them, and they start to wonder if Richard is responsible some way for their missing. Richard tries to explain to his friend Karen (another outsider) what happened the night that he and Tom went to do a phone prank on the old man that lives in the 'Night House', and it backfires.....sucking Tom into an unknown vortex of the darkness knowing he would never see him again, she immediately wants to help Richard to make sure that this does not happen. The old man warns Richard that 'your friend wants to burn, doesn't she?' This starts what will become the most unbelievable, strange yet SO scary story written by a foreign author, and one I will not forget anytime soon.
Author Jo Nesbo is a wordwide best selling author of some of the most terrifying thrillers.
I listened to the audio book, and will do it again, I am sure. it terrified me. Some of the most visual scenes of horror put in front of me. And to be truthful, the book made me tear up towards the end. Loved it and would recommend to anyone who loves creepy and VERY strange horror. Don't let the weirdness of the phone sucking Tom in fool you.....it is NOT what you expect!

When the book starts the youngest daughter of a struggling horror writer tells him that there is a little girl by the name of Ruby who lives inside her closet....he thinks that one of his tales is starting to come true and haunt him.
This book was so on the same line as a Ruby Jean Jensen book that I loved; "Dolly" that at times it almost was stupid. However the ending did not go where I thought it was going to go....I thought I was going to be surprised and I wasn't.
Would still recommed this to anyone just starting to read horror as it is not really terrifyingly scary. 3.5 ...more

Cynthia Pelayo has taken the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamlin and worked it right into the heart of modern day Chicago in this 'slam bam and knock you on your ass' horror/thriller!! Now I had read the 2nd book in this 2 book series featuring the children of Chicago. And let me tell you what...as much as I loved the 2nd book; 'The Shoemaker's Magician' I loved this one even more! Chicago detective Lauren Medina has seen this too many times and heard the name 'The Pied Piper' enough since being a young girl, that is just what she needed when she sees the clues at a childs murder scene. Is the Pied Pipe back in Chicago to make those pay the ticket in blood for not doing what he has asked of them? Lauren knows he is back and that the people and especially the Children of Chicago will never be the same!!
I absolutely LOVED this book and the narration of the audiobook! Pelayo can write a messed up nightmares maker! Get ready to meet 'the Pied Piper' and you will never read another Fairy Tale or Nursery rhyme the same again.

When Chandal and Justin turn down the lovely Brownstone townhouse style apartment in New York to not being able to afford it, you know that something is going to turn around for them TO be able to afford it! Yes, Magdalene and Elizabeth the two OLD lady sisters who own it, must have this young couple move in. And when you find out why, you won't be disappointed. Trust me.
Playwright Justin is working on getting an olff Broadway play up and running, but he has run into problems. They have no where to live. That is when everything seems to be going their way when they are able to move into Ken Eulo's "The Brownstone". Originally published in early 80' this book was all the rage that Summer it came out! I remember I bought 2 copies, because the first one's inside set back art page came out. Now, with this being the 1st of a 3 book series, you really do NOT have to read the other 2 unless you really want to. This does have closure kinda.
The story falls right into that line of tales and characters reminiscent of "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Sentinel" but it takes its own stylish turn down that road to terror! It is not a fast read, so don't expect slam bang action/horror scenes to be thrown at you. But when Eulo does, he does it very effectively. I don't think I ever finished it when it first came out, due to this reasoning, but now as an older reader, I loved this creepy ass tale of things that go bump in the night in the Brownstone. Highly recommended.

As I continue the stories and darkness of the life of Lance What the HELL has Lance and Leah gotten themselves into by arriving in Traverler's Rest!?
As I continue the stories and darkness of the life of Lance Brody, I realize that this book was the most dark.....maybe hence the title? No. It was THAT well written. And for being over 300+ pages, this was my favorite so far.
Both Lance and Leah were expecting just a good and quiet Christmas holiday/vacation this year, but they are both surprised when they arrive in the town of Traveler's Rest. With the snow piling up, and the house that they rent gets more and more deep in the snow, Lance realizes that his life has meant something completely different than he ever thought before.
One cold morning Leah decides to walk down to the local cafe for a hot breakfast....she was not expecting to meet a local man whose son was gunned down by the town police 10 years earlier. Why? And what is the darkness that is after Lance in a way that is scaring him? Why does he not want to get out of bed? The gore piled up in this 6th book, and it was actually creepy in parts that I will never look at a needle and thread ever the same way again. I cannot wait to get into book 7! Highly recommended.

Now I listened to this audiobook right after listening to the 1st book, 'The Haunted' and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I liked it better than the first book. Picking up the story with these high school girls who some have the power to read tarots and fortunes, or my favorite....the power of witchcraft and telekinesis, was great to continue reading about. I think the favorite character of mine here, was both Eddie and again Steele House. Or what remains of the house....which is just the earth where it once stood. Vegas writing here is again strong and easy to get through. Though I would highly recommend it, I really think you must read the first book before this one.

When Peloma's husband Bass is on a case in Chicago, and he finds a very disturbing crime in an old movie palace, of which a victim has been murdered very gruesomely then a very rare movie's poster has been pinned to the corpse, she is immediately drawn into who did it and why.
Peloma is a very successful social media creator of all things Classic Horror, and when this opportunity comes up, she is bound to get huge ratings on her channel. She is about to search, find and interview one of television's most famous Creepy Late Night Horror Hosts; and his name is Grand and he is hard to contact. As the two story lines cross over this is when this book gets incredibly creepy and very well written. Pelayo writes about classic, vintage and rare, and even new horror film so well, that you would think she really has gone to college to study HORROR. The main character and her husband have a young boy by the name of Bela....yes, named after Bela Lagosi and he is 'on the spectrum' and his mother is his best friend, and favorite fan to watch scary movies with. When Bela starts revealing things to his mother, she knows that there is more truth behind this gruesome crime than just a murder. Highly recommended and though it is the 2nd book in the Children of Chicago series, you really did not have to read the first one to enjoy this. I didn't. I cannot wait to now read the first one. Pick it up, you will not regret it. Though there are its small flaws this was the reason I did not give it a full 5 screams review.

Hendricks Becker-O'Malley is moving to a new town....during her last couple years of high school. Her family moves into Steele House. Yes, it is THAT house. You know what I am talkng about; the one house that EVERY city and town has, the one that is haunted! Yes, and when they move in, Hendricks knows that something is not right about the house. Once she starts school and word gets around that she is living in Steele House, the friends start to come out of the woodwork. Yes, the people that she lastly thought would even say 'Hi' to her. Was is just to become friends with the new girl, the one student that lives in 'That house!'?
Vega knows how to hook you from the beginning and makes you hold on because the endings of her books, (though they are all parts of series usually) are slam, bang exciting! Yes, and 'The Haunted' is no exception. I highly recommend this book to any one who loves the typical; can I really say 'Typical'? I guess that is because it is about living in a haunted house. Wrong! Pick up 'The Haunted' and stay away from Steele House.

Forget David Seltzers terrifying horror classic "The Omen" and get ready to experience A. G. Mock's "The Little Woods"! You will not forget this story anytime soon.....I promise.
1977. Summer outside of Pittsburgh PA. Two brothers Ian and Ryan walk to the Little Woods with their friend Matthew to play a game of 'war battle' in the woods before dark. Only two come home.
1995 the two brothers come home to settle and tie up personal ends to what happened that Summer. Was it real, or all just part of growing up? What they uncover and find out about true evil will stay with me for quite some time.
Now, with me being a person who considers myself 'Non Religious' but not an Athiest if that makes sense, I believe I am my own god and ruler of my temple which is me. But I do believe in good vs. bad, good luck vs. bad Luck, good Karma vs bad Karma and so on and so on. However I have never closed to mind and heart to things unknown in this world that I live in today as a 63 year old man.
Childhood. That time of life that we have all experienced and whether yours was good or bad, for these two teenaged brothers theirs was most definitely bad. And it was filled with demons, devils, violence, extreme darkness and loss.
This audiobook that I listened to came out in 2021 by Tantor Audio, and is the first of 3 books of 'The New Apocrypha'. You ask yourself....what the hell is that? Do NOT research this term before going into this book as I did and you can do it after you read it. Normally I am not a fan of books that are often a series, and normally would not even start them. I like my horror to have a beginning, middle and an end, and would always prefer a well thought out ending. It does not have to bad or good, just well translated. But, I wanted to really read this because coming of age horror is my favorite of this genre, and this one is a great one!. In fact, this book scared me literally. Upon finishing it before bed, I turned the light on as I went down the hallway to the bedroom.
The horrors and scenes of violence are thrown at you sometimes at speeds so fast you have to stop and breathe, and they are not your childrens scares either. They types in fairy tales of witches in gingerbread house etc. These horrors are so visually stimulating and unique, yet so SO graphic that they are the kinds that we read TO be scared while reading horror.
The area known as the Little Woods is real as I looked it up afterwards. And the author; Mock presents this to you in a way that you can smell the smell of summer leaves burning or the smell of charred skin....human skin. Narrator Joe Hempel does such a great job that the transferrring the tale between the summers of 1977 and 1995 are very easy to follow. Welcome to the Little Woods. You will come out them changed hopefully as I was.

Ana and her husband Reid win an apartment in the New York in Manhattan's exclusive Central Park area. It is over 100 years old and is known for the exquisite but SO SO creepy Gargoyles that grace the rooftops and corners. What they do not know....is what is lurking inside this apartment building!
Forget the references to 'Salem's Lot'! Take Jeffrey Konvitzs' "The Sentinel" and Levin's "Rosemary's Baby" and throw in a bit of Del Toro "The Strain" and you give birth (no pun intended here...lol) to "Nestlings" by Nat Cassidy. I listened to the audio book and I noticed that it is narrated by the author....so, naturally I thougth that the author was going to be a woman. Wrong!
I have been reading horror for over 55 years, and NEVER have I been so scared and creeped out by a tale of horror that lurks in the darkness and flows thru the veins of EVIL as this one did and does! It is a flawless tale of a young couple getting ready to celebrate their young baby girl; Charlie's first birthday, and it is a day they are soon to never forget! What happens in this book is so well and perfectly written that it is one that I place on my shelf of Horror Classics! And to think that I had never heard of this author until I had seen the creepy as hell cover come across my Everand account and HAD to listen to it! It was released on Halloween of 2023 and let me tell you you MUST read or better yet, listen to it! You will never forget it. It is one that takes on vampires, horror and the darkness unlike any others. It was Flawless!! And with me not being a fan of the vampire lore; this is one that I will read again and again!

So, when this had popped up on my Goodreads page, I thought I would look the audiobook up on my Everand account because the subject and basis of the story really interested me. The Salem Witches.
Having never read this author before I quickly got into the characters of George, his wife Giselle and their young daughter Melissa and his obsession with the town of Salem and his not knowing why.
The story takes off and the ending was great with a twist thrown at me that I did not see coming. Now, this audiobook would have gotten a full 5 star review BUT the authors favorite words to USE over and over, and over and over again were: "he said" or "she said" and it just became so annoying with the two narrators and the way they would change their voices and whatnot, that it ruined the experience (one of which COULD have been an incredibly creepy tale of witches and voodoo) of this story of a 50 year old father and husband and the town of Salem Massachusetts and the history of witchcraft. I wished now that I would have read it instead of listened to it.
Would still recommend, but just wanted to let you know how badly it was narrated. 4 Stars...more
