While I enjoyed this one, the ending really threw me for one. Mainly because I don't know how things are going to go from here. The romance is dead. I'm utterly confused, especially considering we had both POVs. The books are so fast paced that I might start the second one for shits and giggles. Is it a series or duology?? That might sway my opinion.
It was still a fun read - I love a good old enemies to lovers (back to enemies) vampire and witch romance.

Goddamn, this was GOOD. The slow-burn enemies to lovers was written to perfection. Somehow this book was 812 and there was never a dull moment. Their pacing was written so well that it truthfully didn't feel like that many pages. The fantasy aspect was also so unique and interesting and I want more. That being said, I think I need a break before I start book 2 because the ending HURT. I knew it was coming and it still HURT.
It's also not overly smutty - I think only 1 or 2 scenes, which was honestly a breath of fresh air. I craved a good fantasy first, romance second book, and WE GOT IT. The found family aspect was also so fun and I cannot wait to see it build in book 2.
And if you aren't already convinced to read it... 1. There is a nightmare trope 2. One-bed trope 3. TOP TIER banter (while they fight) 4. She is a morally grey fmc 5. The mmc says this: "I didn’t remember how long we talked, but somewhere amidst her laughter and smiles, I decided I would rip the world apart for her.

BUT Butcher & Blackbird is so incredibly hard to beat. I feel like I'm comparing the two books but it's so hard not to. I genuinely loved Lark and Lachlan, but their story didn't have the same oomph as Sloane and Rowan in my opinion. On a side note, I'm going to re-read it once exams are done because I feel like I am so distracted right now and can't even enjoy reading.
That being said we've basically got the holy grail of tropes: 1. Marriage of convenience 2. Enemies to lovers 3. He falls first 4. Touch her/him and die
I also spent 90% of the book grinning like a fool every time they called each other husband or wife.

Ugh this book was so good and that comes at no surprise because I absolutely loved Flawless and Heartless!!! From the first couple of pages I knew this was gonna be amazing because every good book starts with some banter and Ms Elsie Silver came to play. I didn't remember much about Winter from the previous books, but in my review of Flawless I stated that I hated her. I am retracting that statement now.
I loved getting Winter's POV and I could honestly relate to her at so many points in the book. The black cat girl x golden retriever boy vibes were so strong in this book and I ATE IT UP. The pacing of Winter slowly warming up to Theo was perfect and I seriously could not put this book down. Getting all the glimpses of past couples was also adorable (especially Willa and Cade, my favs).
I don't usually love the accidental pregnancy trope in books, but this is my one exception. Even though it was an accident, Winter's journey of trying to have a baby for so long kind of made me forget it wasn't planned. And watching them come together a family PULLED AT MY HEARTSTRINGS. God this was so cute!!!
Received this book as an ARC, but this review is of my own words and thoughts :) ...more

The other characters were okay haha...
You can definitely tell this book was written in the last ~2 years. "Bet" and "I was shook" are not in my vocabulary, but having a younger brother means I hear teenage slang all the time. I appreciate that the author created a more realistic teenage romance novel, but it just wasn't for me ahahha

I adored this book - from the plot, the timing, the tension, and most of all, the characters. Lottie and Huxley are two of the most entertaining characters I've ever read about and the author did an amazing job at portraying both of them. I think the reason why I'm loving Meghan's books these days, is the detailed way she writes the characters - You literally feel a part of the story. It was also SO FUNNY. I don't usually laugh out loud when I'm reading, but this book had me cackling.
I will recommend this book to romance readers until the end of time. Plus who can resist a spicy, billionaire, faking dating book??! Not me. ...more

I randomly picked this up after seeing it on KU and I have no regrets. There isn't much I don't love about this book. Although I found it a tad long, the plot never really dragged and I immediately picked up the second book in the series.
I read ACOMAF way back in 2018 but seeing as it's one of my favourite books I remember almost every part. I didn't hate the similarities between the two - I just don't know I feel about it... The consistent witty banter was so fun, but more of the similar scenes felt like deja vu. For example bargaining and the "innocent" exploration of the male wings.

Listen, I knew I was probably going to like this book, but I didn't think I would fall head over heels for it. I devoured this book in its entirety and I would read it again and again and again. There is not a single thing I would change in this book. Perfection.
The book gives a strong Hunger Games vibe, but brings SO MUCH MORE. We've got rivals-to-lovers, knife-to-throat scenes, pining, dance lessons, AND SO MUCH TENSION. I have never read a book, let alone a YA one, with so much goddamn build-up. These characters barely even kissed and I was at the edge of my seat every time. Lauren Roberts knew what booktok loved AND FUCKING DELIVERED. Lauren, ily.
I knew the end was coming and it still hurt. In the last 80 pages, I could feel something bad coming and felt physically ill about it. And then it happened and I was broken. And now I am in withdrawal because the second book doesn't come out till July :)
Anyways, infinity/5 stars. I tried to convey my love for this book into words and I hope it came across...more

Right off the bat, I knew I probably wasn't going to love the writing style. It felt very Wattpad-y... I think that's the word I'm looking for. It just wasn't great writing.
The storyline is what pulled me in - The dragon king is looking for a wife and the only requirement is that the woman must have enough magic to produce an heir. Enter Arwen who believes herself to be the average girl with little to no power. Lo and behold, this isn't the case and she is chosen to be a potential wife for the king. I originally thought of The Selection series in a fantasy world. This was not the case. At all.
I still managed to finish this book, so it was still an okay book, but nothing special. The plotline was all over the place and while I like unpredictable books, this just seemed unorganized. One thing would be said and then it would all change in the next chapter. It just got tiring after a while.
Our love interests - Arwen and Drae - were cute, but again, nothing special. They had chemistry, but it still didn't feel right. It was just a whole lot of back and forth. Not really my cup of tea. Arwen was a strong MC and I liked her a lot, but Drae was a bit bland. ALSO, somehow I was expecting some spice in here. Nope. This could honestly be categorized as Young Adult - They have a couple of kiss scenes and a boring sex scene with minimal details.
AND The only character that I truly liked was killed off half way through so that was fucking amazing.
I was immediately intrigued by this world and the characters. I honestly don't know what else to say other than this hadFINALLY A GOOD FANTASY BOOK!!!
I was immediately intrigued by this world and the characters. I honestly don't know what else to say other than this had SUCH a good fantasy aspect. At the end of the day, fantasy books with a romance subplot are my favourite and this hit the spot.
The only bone I have to pick with this book is the chemistry fell short... I didn't feel like Oraya liked Raihn as much as he liked her. His character and feeling development throughout the book was SO GOOD, but I felt like Oraya jumped from hating him to liking him. Still love them both, but I feel like one-day Oraya just woke up and thought he was attractive. There is still definitely a slow burn and I love them both regardless. And the ending is so worth it.
Ok, one last thing - I feel like the ending was a tad rushed. I took a break from reading this book at the 80% mark and I think that screwed me other. I was a bit confused coming back to the story and then so many things happened all at once. I don't think it had the shock factor that was intended.
Regardless, I still loved this!!! Perfect for those who love fantasy, but still want some enemies-to-lovers action ;) ALSO this title is so smart... Idk how it took me the whole book for it to click, but I love it <3...more

I randomly downloaded this after it popped up on Amazon and I’m not disappointed, but im also not overjoyed… Just a whole lot of mixed feelings here. I think the main issue I had with this book was that I was confused for the majority of it. I felt like we didn’t get enough inner dialogue from the characters and when they said someone I was usually caught off guard. LIKE SOME STUFF JUST POPPED UP OUT OF THE BLUE… Maybe the author was hoping that readers would infer or read between the lines, but it’s almost impossible. There was so many moving parts *which I usually like in a fantasy novel* but it just didn’t seem organized in this one. I had to go back and re-read parts a couple times to make sure I wasn’t going crazy because some scenes just happened with no build up. The writing style was not my favourite.
Fia was okay. I admired her at sometimes, but she annoyed me the majority of the time. She constantly complained about her life being ruined, but I failed to see that. She had no loving family in her own kingdom and wasn’t treated properly??!! Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t want to go back to that… Colvin wasn’t much better. I adored him for how he treated Fia, but nothing special stood out to me.
The smut was a fun read, but a little too repetitive for me. It was just the same scene over and over again…
“Did he ever make you scream?” When I didn’t respond, struggling to say anything as my heart stopped, he growled, “Answer me.” “No,” I croaked, the burn of his words combined with that of his cock scalding and delicious. “Good.” At my mouth, he warned with gentle wrath, “Allow me to be the first.”
Still struggling for a proper rating, but probably 2.75/5 ⭐️ ...more

I should've expected the ending and yet I let myself be hopeful. I took a break from reading Zodiac Academy to read this so my heart could HEAL... And now it's shattered all over again. PSA to all readers who haven't read this duology yet: do not expect a traditional happy ending.
My problem with duologies is that I almost always like the first book better :/ Unfortunately, this was the case here too. Aside from the ending, I found the plotlines in the second book a little more boring and a tad confusing at some points. I went years without ever reading third-person POV and this book is a perfect reason why I still don't love it. I think I would've enjoyed the book much better if it was from first person from Juliette's perspective OR first person from the four main characters. I was just so confused at some points. It's also such a unique plot that I felt lost at some points.
I am also quite disappointed to find out that Chloe Gong's next book Foul Lady Fortune is about Rosalind... Tell me how I already bought this book and didn't realize that. I truly hated her character in these books so I barely paid any attention to her... But I'm keeping my hopes up and maybe she'll redeem herself.
Ughhhh just very mixed feelings about these books now :( I can't even think of what rating to give this book, but I think I'm going to settle on 3/5 stars....more

Darcy and Orion have my entire heart. Tory and Darius will eventually.
