Did I like HelenThis was a 5 star feeling book.

Did I like Helen? Not really. She annoyed the living shit out of me sometimes with her stubbornness and overall lack of common sense sometimes.
Was it a tad insta-love? Yeah
But I utterly loved this book despite all of that. The romance was spicyyyy and tension filled and Grant Shepard will go down as one of my favourite mmc’s of ALL TIME. That is a man written by a woman. The way he never gave up truly cracked my heart by the end of this book.
Tears were also shed at the end of this book (I almost never cry over books) and it hurt my soul a bit.
I also really enjoyed the book to screen portion of this book. It’s always been such a fascinating thing to me as a reader, so getting some BTS was epic - especially since Yulin Huang is a writer and director herself.

Rosie Belmont leaves her job in the city and returns to her roots in Rose Hill for a visit with her brother, West. Upon arrival, a chance encounter with Ford, her brother's longtime friend, leads to an unexpected proposition: Rosie (now jobless) insists on becoming his assistant. Little does Rosie know, Ford has been in love with her since they were kids. However, their dynamic takes a dramatic turn with the sudden appearance of Ford's alleged daughter, shortly after Rosie's arrival. As Ford navigates the difficulties of hiding his feelings from Rosie, he also finds himself embarking on an unexpected journey of fatherhood.
Now I don't usually love books with the pregnancy trope/kids, but I devoured this (and it's also a unique kid trope which you will understand when you read it lol). Rosie is a spitfire but I adored her and Ford is Willa's brother so it was a no-brainer I was gonna love him. The banter between these two was UNMATCHED. They had me grinning like a fool and kicking my feet together. The tension and the build-up were genuinely the best part of this entire book.
There was a little lull point around the 75% mark but then it picked up again. I think it happens in most romance books - when the couple finally gets together I get a little bored cause there is no more tension and build-up.
I loved West and Cora and Ford's parents and literally everyone else. This book felt like coming home - I missed this world after finishing the Chesnut Springs series). I also CANNOT WAIT for the next book now. I had a feeling of who the next characters were going to be and now I need this book NOW. Idk if I can say who it is so I will leave that for now... But you guys will love it.
This book makes me love love.
Thank you endlessly to Elsie and Indigo and Raincoast books for an ARC copy. I genuinely stared at my computer in SHOCK when I got the email. You guys are the best, thank you again <3
Ok, I liked this. I didn't necessarily LOVE it... BUT Butcher & Blackbird is so incredibly hard to beat. I feel like I'm comparing the two books but iOk, I liked this. I didn't necessarily LOVE it... BUT Butcher & Blackbird is so incredibly hard to beat. I feel like I'm comparing the two books but it's so hard not to. I genuinely loved Lark and Lachlan, but their story didn't have the same oomph as Sloane and Rowan in my opinion. On a side note, I'm going to re-read it once exams are done because I feel like I am so distracted right now and can't even enjoy reading.
That being said we've basically got the holy grail of tropes: 1. Marriage of convenience 2. Enemies to lovers 3. He falls first 4. Touch her/him and die
I also spent 90% of the book grinning like a fool every time they called each other husband or wife.
