Love how our characters are persevering and everything the dungeon is trying, to break them, is only bringing them closer.
Loving the intergalactic politics and the layered plot. That goddamned hook in the epilogue. So frigging excited for the next one and the impending revelations. Never had to wait for a book as I binge read the series, so I guess this is going to be a torture....more

This was written well. The concept of how advanced tech might look like to a technologically undeveloped society was represented well. The cultural misrepresentations and the myths that they develop to cope make for an interesting read. Interesting enough to go on a slight ancient alien-esque bender.
It’s the resolution of the plot that was kinda dissatisfying. There’s a suspense (the demon) that builds in the background of all the struggle of our characters and its reveal turns out to be a metaphor for how our characters are perceived and their internal battles. (I’m not good at this but lemme give it a try-) Nyr is perceived by the locals as someone who’s from the outside and couldn’t be understood by the locals no matter how hard he tries. The demon is to Nyr what Nyr is to the locals. All of this resolves for Nyr to be free from the demon, both internal and external. At least that’s what I think.
There’s probably more to this metaphor but I hate thinking. I just want cold hard facts presented to me, sir. I hoped to get a logical explanation for the demon but that’s not the point of the plot. Oh well. It was a neat little read, though....more

I loved how the world building was very detailed and how all the cultures were introduced. Loved the lore. (Though I could only keep myself focused by constantly disassociating from the fact that the plot is happening on the planet in question lmao).
The writing flowed pretty easily for a book so old. The Ransom/alien interactions were written so well. Will be checking out the sequels.
(Also, after finishing, I saw a lot of reviews talking about the Christian allegories that I apparently did not catch because I’m not Christian. Either way, the book was a fun little read.)...more

This short comes off as a horror/suspense thriller where a sex worker/fake psychic (well, all psychics are fake but you get the point) gets a psychic request about strange things going on at a house.
I really enjoyed the psychic evaluation done by the character and it now makes me want to read books with a psychic as the protagonist.
This one is best experienced when you go in blind. I just really wish she had added a few more pages and built on the suspense....more
