So I really loved the first book, and have been looking forward to the sequel.
The books are very similar, the writing style and the vibe. I was a little bored, but it's just because Emily is an intellectual and possibly has some autism trades. So the matter of fact and emotionless voice we get from Emily didn't totally pull me in.
I could do without Rose and Ariadne. Overall it wasn't a bad book. I like learning more about the different fae. Especially happy to see Poe again! Also some things didn't make sense like the cottage had 3 rooms. But they are 4 people and all had their own room??
I never knew what to expect and I love that about this book! I like this a little less than the first book, at least for now....more

I'm not going to lie, I was not at all interested in this book when I read the description. BI got a free copy from Netgalley all opinions are my own.
I'm not going to lie, I was not at all interested in this book when I read the description. But the good reviews, made me want to read the book. Note that by saying good reviews, I just mean seeing that some people gave it 4-5 stars. I did not actually read the reviews, since I wanted to start the book on a clean slate.
I had a little hard time getting into the book at first. It was a little confusing and boring. But I really wanted to give this book a chance. I finally started to get interested around 15% into the book. The chapters are fairly "short". Some of the words and names confused me, I had a hard time with how I had to pronounce them in my head, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the book.
I went into the book with zero expectations, and I was really pleased. I liked the characters and how they interacted with each other. I especially enjoyed the banter, and I really liked Wendell.
I think this book is a solid 4. I will look forward to more books in this series....more

I really enjoy the story/plot. I think that the world building is pretty good, and I like the magic system.
I like the characters, and haven't found any of the main ones annoying etc.
The book gave me TOG vibes, which is a welcome since that's my favourite series . A specific scene really gave me ACOMAF. Though I'm sure scenes like that have played out in other books etc before.
Overall I really liked this book, and I will definitely be continuing with this series!...more

I don't like the accents and I got really annoyed when they said ai.. The character names really annoyed me too, I got quite tired of hearing those names, probably would have been better to read those names instead of hearing them all the time.. That's my cons for the audiobook. The pros, I could listen to the book faster than I read lol. I also didn't have to try to find out how to pronounce anything because it was delivered to me on a silver platter.
This book was really meh to me, and I didn't feel any chemistry at all between any of the characters. It was pretty much just Neva thinking that all the men were handsome, and then I guess deciding to just kiss them/him because why not?
I had to force myself through this book, because I hoped that it would get better, but sadly it didn't..
The action scenes were pretty good though, and I did find the magic system interesting. But overall the book was really boring to me. Nothing pulled me in.
I won't be reading the sequel, not because this book was horrible, but I just didn't care enough for the characters or the story for me to continue with it....more

A very sad DNF.
Amazing world, cool magic system. I'm not really a fan of flashbacks in books, even though I know that they are important for the story. So I didn't really like when we went to the past in the book. Those parts weren't bad though! I just don't like switching from past to present etc. And it just ruined the flow for me, because of the constant switching. I feel bad because the book was good, the story was good, but I just dreaded reading it due to the constant back and forth. I literally had to force myself to read the chapters set in the past..
I did like the book at times, but it didn't really pull me in. It's not that it was bad, but I just wanted to read other books instead of this one. So it did take me awhile to read, even though I promised myself I would try to finish this book asap.
And after putting this book on hold for months, I've sadly decided to DNf, because nothing makes me want to finish this. I don't care at all about what's going to happen....more

This book was honestly a *chefs kiss* I loved this book so much! The book starts with a bang, the writing is easy to understand, the chapters are short, which just helps to pull you in and not let go.
The suspense and the tension in this book, literally had me screaming. Ugh I just, I can´t this book was just so good. I might be blinded but the story and the romance just had me in their grip, and wouldn´t let me go. And the magic system was pretty cool, but I would have liked it to be more in depth.
As for cons. Where´s the world building?? And the changing POV´s sometimes had me a little confused. But I might just be really slow lol. The book was a little gory at times. As in, blood, murder etc.
Some of the names, oh boy it was a little hard to pronounce, but that´s just because Irish is such a hard language!
And the ending. OMG! I NEED MORE!!! I´m already looking forward to the sequel. I´m definitely re-reading this book again....more

Though I muThese Hollow Vows is A Court of Thorns and Roses, just in a different font. If you like ACOTAR then you're going to love These Hollow Vows.
Though I must say that in my opinion These Hollow Vows characters has less chemistry and they are less charming. I really don't understand why she fell for any of the guys? Like nothing showed us why she fell in love, it was just insta attraction because the guys where sooo hot. I didn't really find any of the characters interesting or likeable either. And the plot twists weren't that good. I might just be really negative, but this book was literally ACOTAR, and not in a good way, that is also to say that I wasn't a fan of ACOTAR.
The book wasn't bad, I did enjoy it at times! But definitely a mix of the ACOTAR trilogy. 2,5 stars from me for now....more

Edena aka Edie aka Cupcake is a loner, she moves from town to town due to her mothers job. She's never able to make any friends, so instead she reads, really she's an average girl. Until she gets thrown into the world of her favourite book, and finds out that it is real, and now she has the chance to save her favourite character Kane. But will she be able to go back to her own world if she changes his story? And is Edie really just a normal girl?
I have to say that I like the book cover, and I really like the description of this book, just the thought that you get to meet your favourite book character and possibly save them, I just love that concept. We switch between Edies POV and small excerpts from book five of the traveler chronicles where we follow Kane, which gives us better insight into who Kane is.
Already the moment Edie steps into the Kingdom of Mithres and she makes a binding promise not to change anything, she accidentally does that, which I mean a mistake that all of us could make. But oh boy was that a bad decision. Which gets her stuck in the Kingdom of Mithres for a while, with no way of getting back to her own world. So she finally gets to go on her adventure with Kane, and hopefully she'll be able to save him from the death that the author wrote for him.
McKay has done a really good job at narrating. It really feels like being in the head of a teen girl, and I would know that. Seriously I love how Edie is written, she is exactly like a real girl. Edie is so relatable and so realistic with her thoughts and actions. She is not just a damsel in distress, but she isn't all badass either. She really seems like a girl that can handle shit and I like that. Edie is smart and has wit, but she isn't arrogant. I can say that she might actually become a favourite character of mine.
It's really funny the first time she meets Kane she is starstruck because really who wouldn't be. I mean if I ever met Jem Carstairs I would definitely have stars in my eyes. But the funny thing is that he doesn't even acknowledge that she is there and when he does it's with so much disdain, honestly I felt so bad for her in that moment. My heart would be broken, but Edie takes it like a champ, because do any of us really believe that our book crush would fall in love with us the moment they see us? And the worst part, finding out that your favourite character is nothing like you thought they would be, so truly disappointing. And just imagine, building up these expectations, and view of a person, not even that. Imagine falling in love with that image, and then finding out that they aren't like that at all. And even so that hard part for Edie is also that Kane really isn't the person that she read about in her books, and she needs to disassociate Kane the Traveler from the books with the real Kane Travers.
Kane is just cheeky, and I like that. He isn't that annoying male lead that is all cold and mysterious. I mean yeah she he has his secrets, and he seems all arrogant. But he's a 19 year old boy just trying to survive in a world that tries to kill him. And I really like him, not as much as Edie but close.
Morgan I love his character! Honestly I liked pretty much all the characters in this book, and I was invested in all of them. Emily McKay, was able to make all the characters likeable for me, which is really hard. But well the only character I didn't like is the villain, which is normal for most.
I just honestly I loved this book, through and through, there wasn't any part of the story that I didn't like. I loved the characters, I loved the action, I loved the romance, how it was slow building, but not too slow.
This is a 5 star read for me, and I might possibly even say that this is my book of the year! I will again say thank you to Engtangled:Teens Publishing for letting me have an ARC, because this has been my most liked book in a long time!...more
I got this book from the publisher through Netgalley to read for free for reviewing purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own. The book cover is I got this book from the publisher through Netgalley to read for free for reviewing purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own. The book cover is so eerie and beautiful in it's own way. And the description was so interesting, but I forgot to look at the tags so when I read this I was quite put out. I usually don't read thrillers or mysteries, but the description really had me, so I put in my request for a review copy at netgalley. I was delighted when I got the copy but reading this was not delightful. I found this book so disturbing on so many levels.
So Cassandra got this really creepy imaginary friend Pepper Man, but apparently he is an evil fairy, really it's up to you what you believe. I feel a little grossed out reading about Cassandra and Pepper Mans relationship, it is so predatory and maybe even paedophilic. It's like a person with Stockholms syndrome. And don't forget about all the manipulation. This book is like reading about an abusive relationship, no not even that it is reading about a young girl being groomed by an older man whilst disguising itself as a girl infatuated with a faerie. This book was interesting, but just not for me, I got too many underlying tones of paedophilia, and abuse. And I don't understand how nobody brings this up in their reviews? Or perhaps I'm just reading too much into it. But if you are into books with murder mysteries and fairies then go on and read this. Because this book really takes you on a journey, it's really intriguing, dark but intriguing. That is why I leave this book with 1 star after much thought....more
I got this book for free for reviewing purposes through Netgalley, all thoughts and opinions are mine. My overall rating is 2,5 stars Where The Veil Is I got this book for free for reviewing purposes through Netgalley, all thoughts and opinions are mine. My overall rating is 2,5 stars Where The Veil Is Thin is an anthology written by several different authors. Throughout the book we encounter several different stories, with varying genres, but one thing they all have in common are faeries. Stories about faeries from around the world.
I will start by saying that this might possibly be the most gorgeous book cover I have ever seen! If anybody knows who did the artwork please tell me! Anyways, this book really takes you for a ride with the different stories, some where good and some not so much as it often is with anthologies. I will do a short review for each story, or well just short descriptions really. There might be some spoilers, depending on what you think a spoiler is, so continue with caution! If you don't want to continue reading my short thoughts about the stories, I will let you know in advance that I might just be really slow because I didn't understand most of what happened, but overall I found this book okay, it's not bad, but it's not the best either. There where stories I really enjoyed and others I just wanted to get over with, but it was a good blend of different themes. And I guess maybe I just don't like stories about faeries.
The Tooth Faeries: Quest for Tear Haven by Glenn Parris - 2 stars, this story was okay, it was interesting, but I wouldn't read it again. This is the first story. Sharon "Shanny" Prentice is six years old, and she has a loose tooth that the faeries want. Well the tooth and her blood, because these tooth faeries are related to vampires. We learn about these kind of tooth faeries, and what they fear.It was a little interesting but not my cup of tea.
Glamour by Grey Yuen - 1 star, because I didn't understand anything that happened We are on the murder scene of a pop star that has died, and the detectives aren't sure how she died yet. And I honestly didn't get this story at all, this one was very confusing.
See A Fine Lady by Seanan McGuire - 1 star, two words unicorn poop Frankie works at the store Target when she sees a horse or perhaps a unicorn with a woman riding on it, the problem is that she is the only one that sees them. This one is a weird story. Or I guess I'm just not into stories like these.
Or Perhaps Up by C.S.E Cooney - 3 stars, because confusing at first but actually kind of heartwarming, but also sad. A girl goes on a hike all alone, reminiscing about her life, when suddenly her life changes. This story is also kind of confusing and weird, but again, I might just be really slow. This story takes you through different feelings, there was bleakness, warmth and sadness, at least for me.
Don't Let Go by Alana Joli Abbot - 4 stars, confusing but enjoyable. Rain goes clubbing, whilst wondering why she can't seem to pick up guys. When out of nowhere she meets a handsome and tall man. This story is short, but it still had suspense, and it was fun reading it. I got both happy and sad vibes from it.
The Loophole: A Story of Elsewhere by L. Penelope - 3,5 stars We follow a person called Rhenna, and this story is so short that I don't know how to describe it without spoiling everything. It is again confusing but interesting. There as mystery, a little action and fun moments. I liked this story.
The Last Home: Of Master Tranquil Cloud by Minsoo Kang - Not sure if it's 2,5 or 3 stars This story follows Tranquil Cloud and his life events. The start is slow and boring, but then it takes a turn for the better.
Your Two Better Halves: A Dream, with Faeries, In Spanglish by Carlos Hernandez - DNF This story is like Black Mirror Bandersnatch or an adventure game. I don't want to switch from page to page looking for the right paragraph to build my own story. I rather just read everything through, because I'm lazy. So sadly I decided to not read this story, maybe if I had this as a real copy and not an e-book then I would have read it.
Take Only Photos by Shanna Swendson - 2,5 or 3 stars Main character wakes up to find that the things in her apartment are not what it seems to be. But she just sums it up to being drunk the night before. But the same thing seems to happen every morning, is she going crazy? This was actually a little heartwarming story, it was easy to read and thankfully not confusing at all.
Old Twelvey Night by Gwendolyn N. Nix - 1,5 stars, I just found it boring. Datura is an apple spirit, and she befriends a mischief thing called Tibb .
The Seal-Woman's Tale: A Tale of Arilland by Alethea Kontis - 3,5 stars, beautiful and tragic The Seal Woman can take on the skin of anybody for a day, but lust is what destroys her.
The Storyteller by David Bowles - 1,5 or 2 stars because this story was just okay kind of boring because it's so short. Very very short only three pages, the story is about a family.
Summer Skin by Zin E. Rocklyn - 1 star The main character has skin problems. The main character is practically a psychopath, it's a pretty creepy story.
Colt's Tooth by Linda Robertson - 2 stars Colt is a little boy. This is another take on the tooth faeries. And it's creepy....more
