He’s not making his way onto my list of book boyfriends, mind you. At least not yet. I can’t quite find his traumatized, ocd self with an overdose of daddy issues attractive, per se, but I am… interested. However, I do appreciate him as a person. He’s not quite as evil as I thought he was and he has a well rounded character. I really enjoyed this novella; it was well-written and gave a lot of helpful insight on warner’s character. I’d definitely recommend reading this one in between the first and second books!

what the heck did I just read.
I’m not sure what I was expecting tbh. I was prepared for deranged metaphors & writing, an annoying main character, a love triangle, and a hot morally gray villain. and I got all those things, I guess. but this was still not what I was expecting at all and it was one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read.
—spoilers in paragraph— the things that happened in this book just felt so… random?? like, she’s in an asylum, meets a guy from her past, then she’s at this fancy military center, then she’s making out with this guy, then she’s running for her life, then she’s living at this guy’s house, then she’s running for her life again, then she’s making out with a different guy, then she’s at a cliché rebellion hideout and discovers that ✨it’s all a lie✨

there’s an adenamak-sized hole in my chest. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be truly okay again.
my expectations for this book were honestly quite low after the mess (sorry <3) that was powerless, but I had some hope that it would be better– and of course, I wanted to have my heart broken. But I regret that decision deeply, as this book didn’t just break my heart. It stomped on it and tossed it in a blender.
Despite my mournful state after reading powerful, I still loved it more than I ever thought I would. It was, as Mak would say, a little piece of perfection (yes, he did say that about Adena. No, I'm not crying as I write this). Seriously, this book was so pure and sweet and beautiful. adenamak are simply the most adorable couple. Mak spent his whole life believing he didn’t deserve happiness, or to smile. but Adena comes along, and being with her gives him more joy than he ever thought was possible. I just… I can’t. I cannot.
The quality of writing here has much improved since powerless. I didn’t cringe at all, which makes me even more excited for the second book's release in July. I’m both excited and terrified to see where the plot goes and how Mak will play into Paedyn’s story.
If you enjoyed powerless even a little bit, I highly recommend this little novella. Just make sure to have tissues next to you ...more

above all, this is a story of love. of maia's love for her family, and the love she shares with edan, and the depths and heights she is willing to go for them. was this the best book I ever read? no. was it a little bland at times? yes. there were times when I didn't really want to read it, but I did anyway— and I'm glad I did. because in the end, this was a lovely conclusion.

I just couldn't connect with her a whole lot. but she had some wonderful character development, and I liked seeing her struggle against the demon trying to devour her; it rounded out her character quite a bit. she's still a little bland, but in the end, I did like her!

when written well, prequels are some of my favorite books to read. They can incorporate lots of little easter eggs and foreshadowing, and even reveal things about characters from the original book or series. I had been eying Saint up since before I even read the Fable duology; something about the creepy yet mesmerizing cover and the premise that promised a haunting story intrigued me– and it definitely delivered.
I loved both Saint and Isolde in the original series, even though we saw little of one and frankly none of the other. The suspense and mystery was built up so skillfully around their characters that I couldn’t quell a rising need to learn more about them– another thing that made this such an unputdownable read. There was something so potent about seeing the man who climbed his way to a place of power by the skin of his teeth while he was still a nobody sailor with a nearly wrecked ship and lots of ambition; same to see the legendary Isolde when she was just a scared teenager. Clove was also one of my favorites and I loved him and his relationship with Saint.
This series is not known for being lighthearted or cute, but there was something so innocent about the romance in this book that made it different from the Fable duology. Isolde was and remained to be, long after her death, Saint’s one weakness and the only person who can get past the masks he puts on for the world. The ending was perfectly creepy and set up beautifully for the next series. If it weren’t for the spoilers that this book has for the Fable duology, I would even recommend reading this beforehand as it really gives a nice set up for the version of the Narrows that Fable takes place in.
╰⪼ overall, this was a captivating book, and definitely a series that I highly recommend!

Six crimson cranes is one of my favorites but the sequel was extremely disappointing, so I approached this prequel with some trepidation. Thankfully, it was needless caution; I think I loved this one even more than scc.
Lim weaves a dark and beautiful story about sisterly love and the limitations of both beauty and monstrosity. Remember how you all were complaining about the lack of actually showing the bond between the sisters in Caraval? I love Caraval with my whole heart but Scarlet and Tella’s relationship seems surface-level even to me when I compare it to this. And it’s also not completely one-sided either, with the older sister giving everything for the spoiled and oblivious younger one. They both fiercely love the other and will sacrifice everything for them— and they do. It’s absolutely beautiful and heart-wrenching, especially having both older and younger sisters myself.

*rights myself* Um, hi, guys, and welcome to my review of Leo Vald- um, I mean, Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan.
I read these books for the first time when I was young and spritely and about five feet tall (and yes, I am pretty far above five feet tall at my grown height, and yes, I know, I'm tall, the weather is great up here, thanks for asking).
Except, for reasons unknown to the public, I never read the last one.
Which means that this is my first time reading this one, that I'm reviewing right now, assuming I'm writing this review on the right book, which means that golly gosh darn dang it *cue Hazel fainting in the background* I was taken on the hugest emotional rollercoaster that left me in an even huger book hangover that makes me want to take money out of my not so huge savings and buy this series.
And no, this book wasn't perfect. *eyes well up as I resist the urge to take it back and start screaming about how perfect it is* because. Even though I love the characters and their bromances (and um the romances too.... duh) and relationships and banter. And even though the tension was great. The climax just.... wasn't.... it.
It was about 10 pages long and it was suspiciously easy for Leo, Jason, and Piper to send the Princess of Potty Sludge back where she came from, after literally two thousand pages of buildup over the course of the series. The entire seven wasn't even involved in the ultimate showdown! *dramatic sighing and throwing myself onto the floor*
Also, in the scene where all the gods are actually being helpful for once.... THE GODS ARE ACTUALLY BEING HELPFUL FOR ONCE. LIKE, WHAT??? TOTALLY MESSED WITH MY BRAIN.
Zeus was being all powerful and commanding and wise (and he wasn't even in his Roman form, which would have made more sense) and, needless to say, it made me so uncomfortable I kept looking into the imaginary camera filming me like I'm in the Office.
But I'm giving it five stars anyway, despite the slightly disappointing climax (though the ending was so cute and bittersweet, the climax just didn't serve), and don't you judge me, you who probably read all three of The Selection books even though you hated them from page one.
And I don't know how that's relevant in any way, but it has the same vibe. YOU'RE NOT THE BOOK POLICE OK.
If you MUST know, *hair flip* I'm giving it five stars because of the characters and their found family trope, arguably my favorite trope of all time. And because the writing sucks you in like your favorite hairtie into your mother's vacuum.
— Character breakdown because you all definitely need to hear everything I thought of all the characters <3

This was such a fun book! The idea of a wonderous and magical hotel, with all the mysteries and lore that surround it, were so compelling and intriguing. Taylor creates a solid backdrop for her story in a magical France where magicians are feared and outlawed and an orphaned young woman is struggling to fend for herself and her sister while wanting more in life than what the dice have cast for her. Nothing extremely new, but the story itself was original enough that you can definitely say this book is its very own, and the author has a wonderful imagination.
The plot was a bit slow-paced, but each chapter was stuffed with magic and wonder like an overfilled cannoli and I was never bored! Jani was a great protagonist and I enjoyed seeing her development. Bel was also cute, and their romance was sweet, if a tiny bit bland in my opinion. Another negative was that the climax seemed a bit lacklustre and coincidental, but hey, we love a nice happy ending.
Overall this was a great debut, not amazing or completely memorable, but fun! I will definitely look out for more from this author! <3...more

But alas, I read it now, much older. And my silly, nostalgic little heart loves it just as much as if I had read it years ago. It’s such a charming, unique, hilarious tale of mice and princesses and thread and soup and honestly, it’s a gift to humanity. I have a feeling that no matter how many generations pass by, this book will still shine just as brightly as it does now. It has one of those timeless feels to it, like it could never be outdated.

Rebecca Ross has some of the most gorgeous prose I have ever read. If you don't read this for the immaculate WWI vibes, the swoony romance, or simply to get rid of the fomo, read it for the writing.
Iris and Roman are the most adorable cinnamon buns ever, but what kept this from being a five star read was how rushed their romance was. I would have liked to see more banter and slow burn. But nevertheless, they have one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read and the kind of lyrical love they have is something I would give anything to experience or at least be able to write with the skill Ross does.
My other favorite part of the book is the aesthetic. I just love WWI aesthetic, and this book is basically WWI but with an age-old war between gods. Ross does an excellent job of blending realistic aspects with subtle magical ones that almost makes you feel like the world you're currently living in could very well be hiding an enchanted typewriter or two in someone's dusty attic.
