I really enjoyed this and I'm definitely going to be continuing on with this trilogy, but I did have a few issues with it. While I was fascinated by the world, but at the same time, I didn't feel like the world was fleshed out enough. We don't really get much world building, you're just kind of thrown into the world, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but for me there were things that I needed to be explained more for me to be able to fully visualize the setting. I also just wasn't a huge fan of the main character Alina, and maybe I'll grow to like her in the next few books, but in this book she annoyed me. I did LOVE Leigh Bardugo's writing style. I found it to be very unique! I'll be doing a video review / discussion soon so look out for that!

Drew's ambitious reading I don't remember reading this book. But, it said I did. So... I didn't read this book. Don't know why it's rated! Opps!(:

james ☆ YOU FINALLY READ IT (now I need to lol)

Brandon This is pretty much how I felt about Throne of Glass.

Kinga I had the same issues & I also finished this book today:). I hope it's gonna be better, I pick it up because of booktube, people whose opinion I trust. I don't expect this to be 5/5 stars, but we need little more ;)

Emma Reid The next book is a lot slower paced than the first one, but I still really liked it! It just took longer to read, and it really picked up the last couple of chapters.

Burak I am not a huge fan of the Alina too, but i really like the Malyen and a few characters in the sequels. Definetly you should continue the series :)

Kelly Gamboa The sequel Siege and Storm is actually more popular then Shadow and Bone and Ruin and Rising. A lot of people said that they like it more then the first and third one. So you might like it way more then the first and third if you've read the whole trilogy. But I did understand your problems. I actually already read shadow and bone but I didn't continue on the trilogy because I didn't own all of them and my library doesn't have it all. Can't wait for your review. :)

Nicole I've read this book but it didn't really make a lasting impression on me. I plan to read the next two books in the trilogy after re-reading the first one

Keerthana If she annoyed you in this book then brace yourself for more annoyance from her.

Sena I'm currently reading this and honestly, I've been having the same problems with the book. I don't connect with Alina very much at all. Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts!

Aimee I think you made me change my mind on this book. We both have the same reading tastes, so I'm thinking I probably won't care for it as much as I thought/wanted...:)

Chelsea YAAAYY ! You finally started it ! ! !

Drew's ambitious reading I'm gonna get this book this weekend! Can't wait to finally read it!!!

message 14: by Kate (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kate I agree, I had quite a few issues with this book and I had it at about a 3 stars for a while and eventually dropped it to about a 1.5... I also had a lot of problems with the main character and the world. I tried the second book and didn't even make it past 100 pages - I was very disappointed after how much people said they love this series!

Drew's ambitious reading Don't say that! You're making me nervous!!!!

Mikayla Alina can get annoying, but I always find it that way with first person pov. I love this trilogy, but the fanfiction is probably the better of it

I totally agree with what you said about the world building. There are just way to many words that are used and not explained that make this annoying. However Leigh bardugo knows how to enchant you with the story. I agree Alina is at time annoying but I love Mal. And the Alina she is with Mal. Bring in the other boys and she's basically Bella Swan. I just finished book two and starting the finale now. Can wait for your video review

Mom2triplets04 I just started this one. Its not the characters that are driving me crazy. It's the vocabulary lots of made up words that are not in the dictionary which slows down the reading for me. Hope it gets better.

Lauren I agree with your review. It was a little slow at first for me. I wish some things where explained as well. Like the different powers.

Christina I love this series! It's one of my all time favorites! I just finished it today, and it was well worth it I can say that.

Drew's ambitious reading Thank you for that positive review! It's very encouraging to pick this book up!!!

Vanessa Princessa This series means the world to me. It`s like you and Miss Peregrine`s. :D :D And yes...Alina. For me it was Mal, though. i can`t stand him. LET`S HOPE we don`t get a similar character like her in Six of Crows. :D

message 23: by Sara (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sara Heunisch siege & storm is the best of the trilogy, tbh. the minor characters of the grisha trilogy are honestly better than mal & Alina for me, but i LOVE the darkling so much. wanna re read this trilogy this summer

Sophie I wasn't in love with the book either, Jesse! I bought the next two books along with it for book-tube-a-thon last year and still haven't finished the series. I still want to finish it, but am not in a hurry. The Darkling's my favorite though. #sorrynotsorry

Genya was my fave in this book. :)

Drew's ambitious reading I'm hearing mix reviews if this book. Should I read it?

Lauren Drew I think it's worth reading, I gave it 3.5 stars and I plan to continue with the series.

I'd say get it from the library and see if it's something that you might enjoy!

Drew's ambitious reading Lauren. Thank you! I'll give it a shot! Gonna get it on Sunday!!!!

Lauren I agree with Jesse I got it from the library. I was glad I didn't buy it.

Drew's ambitious reading Jessie. Thank u! I've been one of ur scrubbers on ur channel, and whenever I watch them u are where I get most of my books from! I found the throne of glass series from u. Checked out.... They were good! Bookshelf tour? Ps. I'll give it a go! Gonna get this book Sunday!!!! Can't wait!!!!

Virginia E. Ferris Your library is open on Sunday?

maddie completely agree

Lindsay I would completely agree with your review. I actually wrote something similar in my own. The problem wasn’t the story or the writing, it was the lack of depth and detail to the story. It needed just a 100 more pages or so to truly capture those unique characters and offer more information on how this world runs and appears. One question I had throughout was - if they have guns, do they have other technology? If so, why not? But again, completely agree with your point!

message 37: by Stephy (new) - added it

Stephy Charlie EXACTLY my sister was super obsessed with it so I figured I'd give it a shot since we have similar tastes in books but maN WAS I CONFUSED like they're using all these words that I don't understand at all??? About 1/3rd of the way through I started to get it and understand everything but overall I thought it was gr8 once I started to understand how things worked and wtf Greisha and other words actually meant ahahaha

Book Thief I completely don't relate to Alina either haha, I don't throughout the entire series.

Sassy_momma_luvsbooks I just started reading it yesterday and I'm halfway through. I actually think the character building is really good. I can picture the main character and Mal and how they would look as well as many of the other characters. And I think she did well describing some of the territories on the World building. As far as Alina, I actually like her. I can understand her personality and being the way she is when she speaks or talks to people. Especially with her upbringing and background. I actually laughed at a few of the things that she said out loud when I was reading it. But books are different for everyone. 😊
