This is the story of the U.S. Exploring Expedition and its crew. Interesting characters, great story. Great writing. Hair raising escapades in the South Seas and Antartica. It's all true -- I had never heard of this expedition before. The Ex Ex's artifacts, a huge collection, all reside in the Smithsonian Institution. They were one of the first collections the Smithsonian received.
