it was amazing
bookshelves: real-stuff

I read this book about 20 years ago and it still haunts me. I think about that poor little girl begging for her mommy and I still get choked up. Even though it was hard to read its wonderfully written. It gives you all the information you need/want. I had NO questions at the end of it. This was also the book that led me to read many more of Aphrodite Jones books.

Julie Oh my gosh Heather, I remember that! Disgusting! I watched Aphrodite Jones on TV quite a bit, I've seen enough stories like this, gives me chills! Reminds me of another story she did that involved 2 males killing a "friend" and going to eat at McDonalds as well. Fabulous review, I feel you!

V_Nerdbooks I had it confused with another book I had read years ago called Small sacrifices by Ann Rule you may like that too if you like those sort of stories, this one was unbelievable and I remember watching the TV movie years ago with Farrah Fawcett in it.

V_Nerdbooks Yes that's the one Julie, cleverly put in someone's review (unfortunately not mine as it's brilliant) that is was played by Farrah Fawcetts hair haha!

Heather I missed both your comments. :( These girls also ewent to McDonald's afterwards and laughed about Shanda's face resembling their sausage. - I also read Small Sacrifices and I find it oddly funny that we all remember Hungry Like A Wolf! She was apparently obsessed w it. Her "theme song". Like the Seinfeld episode - Desperado. Most of us have that one song we LOVE, generally it doesn't make us want to kill. - I listened to HLaW after trying to figure it out. I couldn't even get a weird love affair out of it. -

Heather This story was on Dr. Phil last month bc its the 25th anniversary. Her mother sat with the girl that they fought over. She had ZERO remorse for her part in it.

Elle G. Reads This is my first and FAVORITE true crime novel!

It was one of my first too. Definitely one of the most memorable! When I was younger I went through a True Crime phase. It was all I wanted to read.

Lily Rose I also read this when it came out. I’m the same age as the girls who did this and was also badly abused as a child. This book gave me nightmares and really troubled me. Why was I able to over come my issues yet these girls couldn’t. It opened my eyes that no all killers look like monsters. I’m rereading this now as an adult in my mid 40s. I can see this is a situation where all the girls were in a bad place and putting them together just made them explode. I don’t think on their own any of them would have murdered. I’m glad they served their time and were punished for their actions. They all deserved it and there is no excuse for what they did. I still often think of Shanda’s parents who would now likely be grandparents to her babies. They will never over come her tragic loss

I realize you wrote this yrs ago and apologize for missing it but... It gave me nightmares too. I have never forgotten this "story" bc it broke my heart. I'll never forget Shanda's last words "begging for her mommy". The second girl on the cover was on Dr. Phil and was NOT very apologetic, in my opinion. She was terrible to Shandas mom. It was disappointing bc I would've thought the girls had grown up but she definitely did not.
