it was ok

** spoiler alert ** First, let me address the fact that I do love the series as a whole. Now, that being said, I found this to be the worst book in the trilogy. I read through the reviews & to be quite honest, I am totally appalled that people acually enjoy Wendy ending up with Loki. I despised him from his introduction. I was totally team Finn, but in the second book, I didn't mind if she ended up with Tove. They seemed well suited for each other. It would have been great to have them fall in love despite the marriage being arranged before they ever met.

Also, the author really started to aggravate me with Tove, his character in this book became so lame. He was such a strong force in the 2nd book & being Wendy's husband, he should have remained a strong main character, not so far on the back burner. And what happened to Rhys? Seriously? Just because he started dating, does not mean he would totally ignore Wendy & Matt.

uggh. im more frustrated with my disgust for loki. to me its like bella ending up with mike from the twilight saga. it doesn't make sense & frustrates me to no end. *rant over*

hopefully, i am not the only one who feels this way, but sadly, judging by the reviews left already...i probably am.

Claire :) i agree so much. Finn was meant to be the one she ended up being with. All though I loved Loki as a character I didn't think they should be together.

message 2: by Evil (new) - rated it 1 star

Evil Queen I so agree with you!! The lead character ends up with some under developed one, reads like a last minute decision on the authors end to "surprise" her readers and appear different and unpredictable.

Naurarwen Totally with you. Through the whole thing I expected her to end up with Finn. Then suddenly she was marrying Loki. Don't get me wrong I liked Loki but didn't expect it. I was all for the Wendy changing the rules so her & Finn could be together. Team Finn <3

Avid Reader Aww I LOVED Loki. I found Tove not challenging enough for her and Finn too weak. I was ALL team Finn until midway book 2 and into 3. He did not fight for her and blah blah blah honor. In the end he gave her up and she deserved someone who would not only fight for her but cherish her. I think my acceptance of Loki's relationship with her was that I read a review for book two which told me so I had time to accept it. lol IN the end though I think he was the best choice.

heather ♥ COMPLETELY agree. There wasnt enough development to her and Loki, they were just like "hi I slept with you in a moment of weakness and now I'm in love cause I dont know the meaning of the damn word". Finn > Loki.

Nichole Though I absolutely loved the series, I agree with you, it was quite disappointing when she ended up with Loki, like you-- I hated him from the beginning and I kept hoping that somehow...Finn would work his way back to her ;)

Hilary I couldnt agree more. I would also like to add that I thought the author did a poor job with the Elora/Wendy relationship. I mean first she's an ice cold witch to Wendy and then she turns into this loving mother. That was a little far fetched for me. I realize people change when they are dying but not that drastically.

Sishya Nope, you're not the only one. I just read the third book in this book last night, well partially read it. I stopped at the one night chapter because it made no sense to me. :/ I actually liked the first and the second book so it's kind of sad.

Naryamie Good. I just finished the trilogy and hated her w Loki. I wanted her w Finn or even Tove, but Loki. Ugh. so annoyed! Glad it wasnt just me. Great comparison w Bella & Mike. Its true. It made no sense. I couldnt believe she slept w Loki. Im so disappointed w the ending...

message 10: by Zizi (new) - rated it 1 star

Zizi I completely agree; I love the analogy you make with Bella ending up with Mike, so true! And I'm glad Rhys’ disappearance was also noted! :D

Georgia Yes!I liked Loki, butthen I realised Finn DID fight for her future! I wantd to see her end up with Finn! :( I wish Amanda Hocking will consider to make another Ascend, with Wendy and Finn getting their happy ending!

Georgia TEAM FINN! <3

message 13: by Claudia (new)

Claudia YES! I am team Finn also.. I agree with all comments above and especially 'evil queen'..I think Hocking tried to make her ending a surprise. I believe that the ending was also chosen to be parted away a bit more from the twilight saga and therefore was rushed and disappointing.. Loki is like Jacob, a little bit cocky and arrogant and would do anything to get the girl, however Edward and Finn want what is best for the girl, not that they dont just as equally (if not more) love her and dont want to fight for her, they just want to protect and ensure the best for the girl!It is selfless love and in my opinion selfless love is the greatest kind!.. I definitely think Wendy should have ended up with Finn (despite the similarities with Breaking Dawn).. Loki's character was rushed in the scene and there was not enough time to connect with the characters relationship (Finn and Wendy were building the chemistry up in the whole two previous books and then it just dropped? wtf?) .. I was wishing all the way to the end that she would end up with Finn and I think that Hocking should have spent more time to think about how she really wanted to end the series..Not the convenience of the quick tidy up of 'ohh well Wendy can marry Loki as he is of royal blood' oh and Finn can end up with a widowed tracker from another town and appear really happy..She could have furthered the series with Wendy and Finn fighting to change the kingdoms views of their type of relationship and eventually live happily ever after..I know you can't change the ending but you can dream right? If these turn into movie I hope they change the ending, sorry to Hocking and anyone else who loved the ending I am just so pro- Finn!! :(

Miss Esha I liked Finn but I like Loki more for his witty personality and badboy sorta style

Brittany Team Finn AGREED

message 16: by Anitha (new) - added it

Anitha i agree i reckon amanda should make another ascend where wendy and finn get together, i compleatly fell inlove with finn and wendy and how she chose loki was an N to the O.

Lucyco You are so right! I hated Loki, and Finn and Wendy's romance was the main reason I loved books 1 and 2 so much! when Wendy rejected Finn I gave up the book and skim read the rest, looking for the words 'Finn and Wendy'. I rejoiced as Loki was stabbed (being with nobody was better than being with Loki). I loved the plot until Loki turned up. It was like Bella and Jacob, Rebecca and Maxim de Winter, Katniss and Gale, (I could go on forever) it was all wrong! (LOVED the first books though!)

Camille I totally agree with your review! Why does the author have us fall in love with Finn and the entire first book focuses on him and then there's such a drastic change in the third book? It makes no sense! Loki was such a douche, in my opinion. And it was just so pat an perfect for Finn to hook up with Mia. Lame.

message 19: by Rae (new) - rated it 2 stars

Rae Quigley All the awards for this review!!

Tytenyana Omg nooo why didn't she be with Finn :( lol I'm like so mad right know didn't get to read the. Second book but man can't wait to read on !

Ricardo Chen I would have liked her with Finn. But loki grew on me and after all the fooling around she did with him in ascend. I knew it wouldn't happen..... Being with tove would have only cause misery for both parties so that was out of the question... Besides tove was having his own little fling with bain before the book ended in all honesty i found that kinda cute

Jerica I agree with Johnny Depp: "If you love two people at the same time choose the second. Because if really loved the first one you wouldn't have fallen for the first one." if he was in fact the person who said that. Anyway I did like Finn but I loved that Wendy ended with Loki because Wendy and Finn seemed so much happy without each other in the end.

IsabellaReads I agree! I started out liking Loki as a character but not as a final love interest, I thought Finn should of been it. And yes Tove and Rhys characters were a lot less active in this book which made me upset. The only character we really heard more about was Loki. I would have even liked to hear more from Duncan! I thought the series as a whole was great, but this book was not a good way to end it!

message 24: by Dakini (new)

Dakini K Oh bleep. I haven't finished the book yet, and I shouldn 't have clicked on your review that adds spoilers, thus finding out she gets together with Loki. In all honesty, though, her novels do have a lrage amount of predictability, so I assumed as much, but hadn't had got up to that bit.

message 25: by T (last edited Dec 07, 2015 05:57PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

T Yes, Reys all but disappeared in this book. I wondered about that as well. And Tove was pretty amazing in book two. I was truly conflicted, because I really expected to see Finn and Wendy come together in the end, but in book two I was impressed with Tove as well. He seemed strong and decisive, and the partnership seemed like it could grow into something. I looked forward to book 3 and a strong end with Finn, after some angst with Tove. I never, NEVER expected Loki to be a serious contender. Never.

Throwing in the whole idea of Tove being gay at the beginning of book 3 was also a frustrating element, because it shuts down the opportunity for the partnership to develop right from the start of the book. But to see Finn and Wendy continue to grow so distant and eventually totally end things, while she and Loki, through this strange, cobbled together relationship, come together in the end was truly and utterly disappointing. To put it simply, I feel ripped off.

message 26: by Altina (new)

Altina i totally agree with everythig,i dont like Loki and i love Finn, but i wouldnt mind if she ended up with Tove cause he is a great guy too..everyone but Loki actually,i dont know whats about him that i dont like i just dont want them to be together..team Finn forevah)

message 27: by Geillis Shadow (new)

Geillis Shadow Really, she ends up with Loki?! That's stupid, I was gonna read it, but now I feel like it might be a waste of my time.

T Shadowlove3 wrote: "Really, she ends up with Loki?! That's stupid, I was gonna read it, but now I feel like it might be a waste of my time."

Sorry to disappoint. I stopped before I got to the end, I was so annoyed, lol.

Bettina All you said were true, Amanda had us invested in Finn's character from book one until about the half of the second book. I was totally team Finn too or she could have just ended up with no one else. Amanda really wanted a happily ever after ending and unfortunately I think it wasn't necessary.

Maddie I so agree with you! Although I don't mind Loki I think that she still should have been with Finn. It's as if in the second and third book she just literally forgets about her love for him even though she was going crazy over him. I just think there could have been a way better way to end the book which included more of Finn

Natalie Paukstys Yes! I agree. I did come to be okay with Loki (it was more of needing to convince myself about it,) but it totally bugged me that I was worked up about Finn for that long with no result. Poo.

Nikstarz Wow, I definitely agree with you !
I am dreading the fact that Wendy ends up with Loki. It is not a satisfying end at all. I find it annoying and disgusting. OH, how I wish Finn and Wendy had ended up together. It would have been the perfect ending. And what's the point of Wendy ending up with Loki anyway, since she chose to end her marriage with Tove and not caring about the Trylle status, she should have definitely gone with Finn, after all she had been in love with him from the start. I did not find Loki attractive or satisfying from the start. Ugghh

message 33: by Sami (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sami The story is told from wendys point of view so how come there is people who hate loki

Hannah ugh, I stopped reading this book from the point wendy chose Loki over Finn. Finn was introduced first, so he was the first person to have a connection with, so naturally I wanted Wendy to end up with him!! I totally agree with you.

message 35: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha The reason why im so mad isnt because she ended up with Loki but the annoying part where all the build up in the first two books was between Wendy and Finn and then the third book was totally turned to Loki instead. (it felt like a slap in the face to be quite honest)

message 36: by Faye (new) - rated it 2 stars

Faye i agree. finn is the one for one wendy . when the part where wendy and loki made love , i skipped to the ending . and then boom! i hated the book -.-

message 37: by Agent (new)

Agent Colorado I am soo happy she went with Loki. Her relationship with Finn was just to drama filled and it was driving me crazy

Laura Reilly I Agree totally! Did not like Loki at all and was very disappointed when Wendy ended up with him! I Loved Finn from the beginning and was quite upset when he wasn't with Wendy. Was an okay book but disappointed turn out

Maryam i agree... wt a disapointment... made me cry...

Maedream I KNOW! I wanted Finn to end up with Wendy wtf Loki. His character came in so suddenly and it was all so stupid.

Somaya I'm totally with u.. Loki is a great character .. But i didn't want Wendy to end up with him.. I kept praying through the whole book that they wouldn't ,but..

message 42: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin Porch I'm glad she didn't end up with Finn.. I rolled my eyes when she met him at the beginning of book 1 thinking that I had already met the 'on again off again' boy... I'm so glad I was wrong

Sophy Sorn Wtf? I finish book 1 and onto book 2. I wanted to know who she ends up with so I read your review. She end up with Loki? No way. Loki was not even with her the first book and I swear Finn was it. Who does that? Now I don't really want to continue the book, bummer

Cailey Mac I totally agree. The first two books completely focused on their building romance for it to end so abruptly! I for one can't imagine anyone getting over a first love so fast, even when a new boy is introduced. Loki is such a sweet character, and I feel that maybe him and Tove should have ended up together, and have Loki's constant flirting with Wendy just be a cover for him being gay in their society. I assumed the story was heading that way til they slept together (gasp!) ALSO to everyone against Finn because he didn't "fight" for her, put this into consideration: if you grew up in a semi magical community and your place/rank was the lowest of the low and constantly told to mind your place and duty before anything else, wouldn't you be incredibly resistant to change that? You can clearly see that Finn loves Wendy, but he is only uptight about it because he has to constantly make sure they're never seen, or the internal battle that what he was doing was beyond wrong but he kept trying to do it anyway. There were a few situations he could've handled differently, such as leaving without saying goodbye (ugh) but still. It broke my heart every time Wendy basically screamed at him that he didn't care or love her or try to fight for her. Maybe he really truly believed that he couldn't, and it went against everything he was raised with. I think the book could have morphed into more of something consistent with the first two books, with Finn finally trying to go against the system and Wendy changing the system so they could finally be together, like Matt and Willa. UGH the unfairness at it all!

message 45: by Nur (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nur i dont agree it was the best

Kaylee oh my god this review it totally me like i could not after she slept with him i could NOT. i was so done like i skimmed the rest bc i couldn't care anymore

message 47: by Moved (new) - rated it 1 star

Moved Thank you so much for your review or else I would be wasting my time reading this book expecting Wendy ending up with Finn. I'm also okay with Tove. But the fact that Wendy is end up with Loki just ruins it. I skipped the chapters (went a bit more than a quarter way already) and read the last chapter. I was honestly disgusted. Well, I love Loki, but he's just not for Wendy.

Henna More agreement here haha. I reached "One Night" and I wanted to throw something. I really liked Finn too but like many others, I thought Tove could be a viable partner - the way he's always stood behind Wendy and supported her always. I was secretly hoping that theirs would be those stories where love happens after you're bound together. And I really didn't care for Loki at all. Alas.

Lakeisha I 100% AGREE with you. On everything!!!

Cynthia I apologize in advance for what I am about to write.
\How the fuck can you not love Loki Staad? He is one of the most amazing characters I've ever read about. He's sweet, cocky, admirable, strong, understanding etc. In my opinion, HE deserved to end up with Wendy. He was her rock and they could always depend on each other.
I'm fucking happy Finn didn't end up with Wendy. He didn't fucking deserve her. Why, you may ask?
-He chose duty over her. Loki chose her over duty/the king/and pain. The King would fucking whip the shit out of him and Loki endured all of it for Wendy. He let her escape when he knew he would've gotten a beating out of it or execution. Finn wouldn't have done the same.
-Finn kept on saying that a princess (royalty) shouldn't be with a tracker like him. He rejected her so many times yet got jealous when she would be with other guys. HOW DARE HE?
-He wanted to fuck her before her wedding day. Like wtf. He just wanted to use her so he wouldn't regret not sleeping with her later on. Good thing Wendy stopped before she made a mistake.
Okay, HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU COMPARE THIS TO TWILIGHT?
This is not fucking twilight, okay. Wendy isn't Bella. Loki wasnt Wendy's long best friend. I suggest you read both books again before you make a comparison.
Also, Finn is nothing special. His family didn't really like Wendy and he would've kept trying to hold back Wendy.
