it was ok

I didn't know anything about Glennon Doyle Melton prior to reading this book. I had never read her blog or her previous work. I was attracted to this mostly because of the cover and the title but also because I had read that she was a recovering alcoholic.

This memoir is about her struggles with her husband's infidelity and to find herself. I really enjoyed and got a lot out of the first 2/3 of this but then it went into way too much god and yoga for me.

I did really like her thoughts on pain and dealing with it but in the end this wasn't really what I was looking for.

message 1: by Kim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kim It wasn't the God and yoga that I was bothered by exactly. It was how trite some of her thoughts were in the last 20% or so. I sometimes felt like I had read those exact words before despite never reading anything else she's written.

message 2: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Ladden I felt the same. It read so quickly in the first 68% of the book and then suddenly it got very hard to relate how breathing could be so very life altering. All of OPrah's recommendations tend toward omniscience. Not a book is recommend.

marie manda your review expresses almost exactly what I felt. The first 2/3 were good despite what I felt was too much reference to God and scriptures but then she complete lost me near the end with her long preachy sermon on her definition of what "sexy" is to a six year old. I'm sure that didn't really happen and cannot imagine the children attentively listening to this.

Meredith Totally agree. I'm in the last 20% now I went to read reviews to see if others were losing interest at the end.

Maria I agree! started out great. I started loosing interest when she was alone at the beach.

Ensley I loved the first 1/3 and last 1/3 and could have skipped the middle. The infidelity was so not interesting to me, especially since it didn't seem like their marriage was a happy one. Couldn't really buy in on that one

Hazel Bright Aha. A book I find bewilderingly substandard that has a 4+ star rating and 36K reviews because God. Thank you. No need to further torture myself.
